Hey Bad guy, please take my gun!
« on: January 09, 2006, 03:12:55 PM »
If you live in a CCW state that has no gun zones, think about this. Criminals know where no guns are allowed. I found this interesting the other day when I saw a car parked in a parking reserved for a building that was a gun free zone. On this particular vehicle there were 2 bumper stickers, one said, "Insured by Smith, and Wesson" and the other one said "You can have my gun when you pry it from my dead, cold hands"

I thought to myself, why didn't the vehicle owner just put a "free gun to bad guy" sticker on it!!!! :o

Some people just don't get it it I guess. ::)

I think it is better not to advertise.

If they know you carry, it is quite possible you would be the first to be murdered.

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

Subtlety is good IMO - I used to have rifle rack and NRA stickers on my last truck - no more.  Pity to have to go that way but - I feel better not advertizing my gun interest at all.

Same with open vs CCW - better to keep em guessing - every time! ;) :)  That said, I open carry at home and around my property - but nowhere else.

I also think the general public does not want to think about guns when they go out.  That's why I don't have gun messages posted all over my truck.

Right or wrong, I believe it could irritate onlookers to some degree and their voting support is required in order to carry.

I agree.  It keeps the "sheeple" calm and the BGs guessing.   ;)

And a $30 Center-of-Mass car safe doesn't hurt. Anything to slow them down. I've worked in criminal law now for almost 15 years, and criminals want to smash and grab. Nothing can keep a thief with all the time in the world from getting whatever he wants, but the reality is these guys are rushing to try not to get caught.

Accordingly, never store your gun under your seat (unless it's either in one of these small gun safes or otherwise chained to the seatframe), never keep it in the glove box, never keep it above a sun visor or in your center console. If you must leave it unlocked in the car, think "where would a criminal not look for valuables in the limited time he has?" Perhaps in the seatback pocket, with a sunshade stuffed on top of it. Perhaps under the floor mat in the back seat. Perhaps under the spare in the trunk.

I have one of these safes in each vehicle, and I highly recommend them:

>>I have one of these car safes cabled to the driver's seat and stored beneith it in a way I could access it, if necessary.  These are great too if you need a place to store a gun or anything else in a hotel room.

I also have a small, heavy gage metal box ~ 14"L x 14"W x 8"H with a padlock which is cabled behind the rear seat of my van.  This was some sort of military surplus box that I picked up for a few bucks at a surplus store.  There is no way this box can be seen from the outside due to position, tinted windows, and a blanket I throw over it.  This allows me to keep a small arsenal while traveling...or a place separate of my gun (s) for ammo.

You can't have too many safe places to keep guns in a vehicle, although most of the time I prefer to keep my weapons on me...TW<<

Erich,

That was a fine article and reminder about firearms in the car.

Thanks for your recommendations.

I just ordered one of the Center of Mass medium safes tonight.  It will also meet the Ohio requirements when we travel there.

I received my Center of Mass safe today, and also highly recommend it.  Thanks again, Erich.

Here is a quick link that shows how it works.

Richard,

The quality, finish, and fit are all excellent.  I'm especially pleased with it.  It's almost a shame to put it under the seat of my old truck.

The diameter of the steel cord is not real big, but it should turn back most bad people operating without large cutters.

Even if you had a super large cord, someone would come along with jaws of life and cut it anyway.

Thanks again to friend, Erich.
