The Three Types of R9 Grips
« on: November 26, 2006, 06:30:48 PM »
Here is a photograph of my "Farmie" No. 132 sporting its new black carbon fiber grips.

For comparison purposes, here is a photograph of the original blue carbon fiber beside the newer G10 type.

I know, I know . . . why have all three types?  And then I ask myself, "why not?"   :D

I Like my blue for nostalgic reasons but confess my leaning is toward the black - whether CF or G-10.

I doubt I'll change them tho!

I have not tried them, but I am thinking I'll like the G10 grips.  The black CF I have are very slippery.  They look great, but for this pistol I think the more grippy G10 will be better.  I have a knife with G10 grips and like that material quite a bit.

I like the  black CF that I bought. It is a bit slippery and I haven`t shot the gun with them on yet.

I might have bought the blues if they had been available the week before when I ordered the blacks.

As a side note I talked  to someone at the factory and they will be producing the CF again. They had issues with quality and cost so they changed to the G10.They said the CF prices tripled on them and they didn`t want to raise the price on the guns.

So, if they had quality and cost issues, why will they be producing thm again?  Did they resolve the issues?  Will they be dropping the G10 grips?

I hope they don't drop the G10's cause I am going to replace the CF's on my standard R9 to match my Stealth.  Sorry folks, CF may be gee whiz and indestructable but the G10 is a better grip material for the R9 IMO.
I got em both so I know.

I think any CF grips made will be few and specials - at a price.

I have little doubt they can aquire some CF but costs have rocketed and seems certain they have to drop those for regular production.

G-10 is as others are finding - a better grip material and I may yet take off my ''blues'' from pup #2 and get some G-10's for service use.

I was told they resolved the quality issues.I would bet they will just be available as an accessory purchase to those that want them at the $139.00 price point.

I wouldn`t look for the G10`s to go anywhere on the guns.

My CF grips are quite nice, so I wonder what the quality issues are?

I hope you're right and they retain the G10 grips.  As I said, I have not tried them yet but I expect them to be a nice functional improvement.

I don't come here very often, but if I'm reading this thread correctly, does it in some way imply that the "Blue" CF grips are also still available as well..?  Would they be purchased directly from/ through Maria at the shop, or how are they to be procured?

Maria recently told me that there were no more CF Blues in stock and that they had only a few remaining CF Blacks.  As I understand it, the current demand for carbon fiber by the aircraft industry and the defense establishment has not only escalated the price of the material but also depleted available supplies.

I too am of the understanding that the original Blue grips, are no more..

Not that they couldn't run across some material down the line, who knows for sure!!

Brenden

I also have been told that there were 300 sets of the Blues made..
