A Stealth Birthday
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:45:10 AM »

Hi all! New here. Been lurking while I pick out
a B-day gift From my hubby to ME ;D

I chose the r9 stealth.

Michigun said they'd call when it's in.

I can't wait! Well, yes I can. I am just eager.
Will wait forever as long as it's well made.
Going under the knife so I won't be able to
shoot her til March anyhow. But I can dream!

I haven't used a gun with a mag release such as r9's,
think I can handle?

Plus, whats everyone think of smartcarry?

http://www.smartcarry.com/

Glad to meet you all :)

3bus:

First of all, welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on selecting what I consider to be the ultimate in pocket pistols. That is one fine birthday present from your husband!

And here is wishing you a full and speedy recovery from your forthcoming surgery.

The heel magazine release on the R9 should present no problem. This pistol is not intended for competitions requiring speed loading, and a speed load is also usually not required in ordinary personal defense situations (God forbid you ever have to deal with one). Even so, with practice, you will learn to manipulate the R9 magazine change faster than you may now imagine.

As for a SmartCarry holster system, I tried one when it was known as the "Thunder Belt" but didn't find it comfortable. Some others, however, swear by them. I think it's just something you have to try to determine how it works for you.

Welcome again, and good luck!

Thank you Richard S. Happy to know you.
Yeah, I figured it fair he get me the r9 since
he just got himself a few nice pieces. ;)

About the smartcarry, I'm wondering if it may be more
comfortable for me being a woman? I dunno.

The Hidden Holsters mentioned on this site are beautiful.
Also thinking of one of them.

Nuther question, does anyone like the lasers available for
the r9?

3bus, Welcome to the forum/family. It's great to have another lady here. You will love the Stealth when it comes in. For a holster go: www.leatherandstuff.net  Jim will take good care of you. click on the IPS holster, Mrs. Fos loves hers. Forget the laser deal. Keep it simple.  Tom

3bus,

Congratulations on the great b-day gift.  An excellent choice!!

(I just bought a Stealth last week  ;))    I believe you'll love it!

I have a Thunderwear holster (same as SmartCarry) which I have used comfortably to carry pistols and revolvers larger than the R9s.  But personally I don't think you'll need the extra bit of inconvenience of the draw from a SmartCarry to comfortably carry and conceal your new pistol.  As light and small as they are they are easy to carry in a pocket ,front or rear, or your waistband.  I currently use a DeSantis Nemeses which works well.

Good luck with your surgery.  Heal well and quickly.

Regards, Quiet1

Welcome to the forum. Another neat thing about Smart Carry is that it can be worn in front, as designed; but also off to either side to provide an appendix draw or crossdraw. No need for obtrusive belt clips. As much as I like leather, I find myself using the Smart Carry most of the time.

Hi and welcome! I went through a lot of trial and error in finding the best conceal carry option -- before our friend Tom (theirishguard) asked if I'd ever considered an R9! It was the best suggestion a friend could make!

I do have an IPS (for a seecamp) but I'm not sure Jim at leatherandstuff.net makes the IPS for the R9. It is a very nice way to conceal; it looks like a cellphone or ipod case so it doesn't draw any undue attention.

For the R9 I have a custom IWB made by Robert Meco (mecopocketholsters.com) and it is the ONE for that gun in my opinion!

It's not pictured on his site, but you can contact him and he will make it by request.  Mine is lined, which means the inside is as smooth as the outside.

It is very easy to draw from -- and because it's hand formed to the gun, retention is perfect. You can email or call Robert, he's another great guy to deal with and prices are very reasonable!

I also have a smartcarry and I like it a lot - especially under gym shorts or sweat pants. I wear it higher than is recommended so it rides nearer my waist and it's very easy to draw from.

Thank you Benjamin. Think I'll get one no matter what.
(smartcarry) plus a leather when I make up my mind.
It's nice to shake your hand.

MrsFosforos, thank you for the link, I will definitely go
and check it out. Happy to make your acquaintance. :)

Looks like no matter what I get, it's gonna be a fun ride. ;D

Be sure to get the extra small size smartcarry. Your R9 will disappear into anything larger.

Welcome.

I got a laser for my Glock 19 and kinda hate it.  Though it fits in the gun, I have never felt comfortable that it will be there when I need it.  I quit using it.  I would not consider one for the R9, as you do not need one at 3-7 yards.  If, g-d forbid you had to use it, you will just shoot multiple shots to center of mass.

I most often use the Nemesis as it is light and sticky in my pocket.
