Anybody got any feedback on US Firearms? They are located in Hartford, near the old Colt factory, and are producing upscale guns that rival the way Colts used to be made.
I just called them and was told sales department was in a meeting. I wanted to do groundwork for my FFL who is closed on Mondays.
I am drooling over the 1911 .38 Super model. I have the right to do this because of my stupidity. I once owned a Colt 1911 in .38 Super, excellent condition, (circa 1960), with original box and sold it. Did I make money? Yes. But was I stupid? How much time have you got?
Any comments, positive or negative, regarding US Firearms would be appreciated.

Above is an article from "Shooting Illustrated" regarding their
single action revolver. Everything I have read about them is
positive.

I'm a dealer, give me a call. Tom

Tom
Where are you? I left a phone message this morning.

Thank you for posting the article. Like most real guys I like the articles but the pictures make me happy too.
I am waiting for Irish Guard to return my phone message. My greatest fear is leadtime for the product. I am convinced of USFA quality although I have never gotten beyond photographs.
-
One of the main features of the article is that they make their
own parts and don't depend on a S.E. Asia metal injection molded
part that may disintegrate after awhile.
-
Roger that and ten-four. USFA guns are made the way Colts used to be made and I am excited about the prospect of ownership
Update: Irish Guard is on this case. He returned my call yesterday afternoon and I am awaiting word as to details of price and delivery after he speaks with factory.
It is one thing to aim high for a gun of this quality but to have Tom on the receiving end of this transaction is very assuring. I am still concerned about leadtime but right now I am letting Tom do what he has to do.
-
Outstanding!

US Firearms is Top Notch! you will not be disappointed!
Many firearms addicts feel that they are superior to Colt.
At this point in time, I think they may be right, at least with what I have seen with their single acitons - superb!

Thank you for the encouragement. I am not a SASS fan and the gun I am interested in is the 1911 .38 Super.
Your point as to quality is all I have ever heard about this firm and Tom assures me that this is so. Waiting on response to my inquiry as to price and delivery.
-
ACP:
There is something very satisfying about the prospect and process of acquiring a superb firearm meeting your specific requirements. Good luck in your project.
-
Thank you Richard. Is it me or do other forum members get sweaty palms when they decide to pursue a quality firearm?
-
If only the reality were equal to the anticipation.
-
I get a faster heart rate.

Spoke to Tom earlier this evening. There may be a problem with the .38 Super because it is not a big seller and these, after all, are custom guns based upon historical accuracy.
However, Tom and I discussed backup plans. Stay tuned.
-
Looking forward toward the plan!
-
USFA is an upscale facility that does not build to stock. The .38 Super gun has great appeal to me because I had owned an old Colt, as related above, and wanted to revisit glory prior to my having sold the .38 Super in original box.
Tom and I are both familiar with manufacturing; he on the sales side and me on the buyer's end. A factory must invoke what is called "rough cut capacity planning" in order to advise a customer of his delivery. This is an assessment of available (or ordered) raw material, components and committed labor; commonly referred to as "the pipeline".
The .38 Super is unlikely but there is a backup plan. If backup does not work, "no" is an answer and I will look for the P220 without the picatinny rail.
In any outcome, Tom's willingness to facilitate my wants and needs for the USFA gun is clearly in play. This ought surprise no one who is familiar with the Irish Guard.
-
Good plan!

I just noticed tracker's post regarding reality vs. anticipation.
Anticipation is capable of either sustaining our interest in receipt of the object or turning the buyer sour due to perceived vulnerability.
Actual receipt of the object may terminate anticipation but that is when buyer's remorse sets in.
In a perfect world anticipation and reward intersect. However, this is not a perfect world. Obama is still president, right?

True!

ACP. Here's a Colt 38 Super at ConcealGun.com new at $960. Don't know if it is the quality that you want.

Thank you for your post but Colt does not have the quality they used to which is why I am upgrading to USFA.
This just in: Tom Watson called me and he found the USFA .38 Super 1911 gun at another franchised dealer. My check is enroute to Tom now who bought the gun on my behalf.
Tom will see the gun before I will which is very important. Gun is described as unfired NIB and you have to know the Irish Guard will be looking out for me and making sure the gun is as described.
Tom is simply the best.
-
Glad you will be getting what you were looking for. Things do come for those who wait.
-
That is a great story and very compelling reasons to buy from Tom.
He goes the extra mile.
-
Outstanding! Here's to Tom, and here's to you and your new 1911!

kj, tracker & Richard
Thank you for your encouragement. When I pursue something I do so with good will and put my money where my mouth is. However, it is shocking how few purveyors "get it" when it comes to good old fashioned service.
This was not an easy thing for Tom to make happen but he did it and I will never stop using this forum to sing his praises when the Irish Guard so conspicuously earns it.
-
I almost forgot about this string and I wanted the forum to hear the happy ending. I received the US Firearms 1911 in .38 Super earlier this week and the quality is phenomenal(sp?)
Walnut grips are stunning; form-fit-finish of entire gun is unbelievable. (Metal) trigger and grip screws are color case hardened.
The gun comes in a re-enforced cardboard box that folds out, like a book, and contains graphics that are indistinguishable from the original gun that debuted 80 years ago. Box contains (brown) felt fitted "shoe" to protect gun's finish.
Not a cheap gun. However, quality always sells in an up or down market.
-
Glad to hear you got the .38 Super and are pleased. Great story.
-
Great news!
Thanks for posting the end of the story. It is always a let down when others bring us along their journey and do not share in the ending.
Your ending is no surprise considering the Company and the Dealer you were doing business with.
Good Shooting

I would love to see pictures and congrats!
-
Is this a shooter or a looker and a feeler, or both?
-
Thank you all for your comments. I do not own a camera but it looks just like the picture on the US Firearms website. What you do not get from the photo is the gun in your hand which is a transforming experience; quality oozes from muzzle to backstrap.
Dealer had no .38 Super ammo so it is a looker so far. I do not intend to shoot this gun a lot. It is a masterpiece, plain and simply.
It is tempting to state that the money spent for this firearm is a better investment than a premium R9. This is folly as the two guns are apples and oranges. The R9 is my favorite gun and the gun I carry. Whereas the R9 is a "personal sidearm" that goes everywhere I go, the Super .38 is a great gun to come home to, admire, shoot little and add much class to your gun collection.
Oh yeah; by the way, (as if we didn't know), Tom Watson is much more than a Rohrbaugh dealer.
-
Congratulations on a good, happy, glad transaction.
-
ACP:
Congratulations on your new and rare 1911 masterpiece!
-
Thank you again.
A postscript: I had never dealt with the FFL to which Tom had forwarded the .38 Super. While he did not have .38 Super ammo, he did have two boxes of Winchester 9MM white box 147 grain JHP ammo @ $21.00 a box of 50 rds.
The way I assess it, the guy had a few token handguns for sale but he was far more of a hunting outfitter; rifles, shotguns, compound and cross bows, hunting gear and clothing.
The dealer was unconcerned about ammo shortage and had no wish to exploit opportunity as his revenue stream was not fed from this source.
-
ACP, It was fun getting you that goood looking .38 super 8)1911. I'm very glad you really like it. It made my day. Thanks for your continued business. Tom

Tom
Nothing of value is not earned. When there exists an incentive, for which a win/win outcome is germane, we get to deal with the people who make our lives better on our own terms and compensate them accordingly.
The world is on fire in the insane belief that everybody needs to get the same outcome. WRONG What you should get is opportunity and EARN your reward.
That is precisely what you and I achieved.
-
ACP,
I just read this thread and want to add my congratulations to you on successfully obtaining one of your "Dream Pistols".
It really is a great story with a happy ending.
Also, kudos to the Irish Guard for his part in the successful acquisition of your new gem.
Regards, Quiet1
