I'm certain that this has already been done so perhaps someone would rather revive an old thread, but I personally would like to see some of those old Farmies and cool grip options. Neat holster and other cool stuff are always cool to check out.

Please pay no never-mind to the sesame seed on my Yukon seat : )

Lol. Good show my friend. I'm afraid that will be hard to top, but even if not topped I would love to see some additions to the great pics.

You have given me some cool ideas on how I can upgrade mine. Thanks.

One question, what is all of the tooling in the 8th pic down?

They are sweet.

How do they feel anyway Richard? Are they superior to the VZ or not? Or just different?

Thank you, Gentlemen.  When Josh asked for photos, I just couldn't resist.

As for the tools, Josh, the photo below includes them all except the "Paperclip" tool developed by R. J. Hedley just before his death.  And by the way, if any sharp eyes out there notice that the photo of the disassembled R9 does not show the barrel pin, it is lurking under the edge of the holster.  (Moral of that story: Keep an eye on the barrel pin when disassembling your R9.  It likes to roll away and disappear.)

As for the elephant hide grips, you will recall, MRC, that you are the one who originally brought their availability to my attention.  They are the grips I most often use on my R9 lately.  Although they may not offer the firmness of the VZ grips, they are very comfortable and, since the hide is mounted over some adapted standard G10 grips, they fill the hand well.

I should edit this post by noting that I also have two pair of wooden grips and some original carbon fiber blues for my R9.  Someone once called me "a grip junkie." I confess.  "My name is Richard, and I am a grip and holster junkie."  ::)

Richard,

May I ask why the trigger guard was photo-shopped out of one of the pics?

How does the paper clip tool work? Just wrap under the spring and grab it instead of using the hypodermic needle method? I don't use tools yet and imagine that job becoming more difficult as my hands age.

What method/tools do you guys prefer for spring compression?

I think it is just under the fur if that is the picture you are talking about.

It wasn't photo-shopped.  The fur of the rabbit skin on which I placed it just happened to cover a portion of the trigger guard.

R. J. Hedley's paper clip tool works in the same manner as his two-in-one tool.  You simply compress the recoil assembly enough to insert the curved end of the clip into the space between the flange of the guide rod that protrudes through the slide under the barrel and the internal end cap that covers the outer spring.  This permits you to position the recoil assembly guide rod into the hole in the frame without effort, following which you simply pull out the clip.  It's one of those solutions to a problem that makes one wonder, "Why didn't I think of that?"  But R. J. Hedley was a genius of design.

Something not generally known about R. J. is that he won the Bronze Star in Korea.  It was pinned on him by his commander, who happened to be Major (later Brigadier General and U. S. Ambassador to Belgium) John S. D. Eisenhower, son of then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

That's the one I mean. No photo-shopping. Just careless placement of the pistol on the fur.

_____

Edit:  You know, I've now blown that photo up to 400% and it does look as if it could have been photo-shopped to remove the trigger guard. However, I truly have no recollection of doing so and don't know why it might have been done in the first place.  If it were, I may have just been experimenting with the feature on the software after imbibing a single-malt beverage.  It's a mystery.   ???  I'll leave it merely as a curiosity.

Richard,

No worries. I have couple really big monitors at the office so the editing was easily noticeable on those. The fact that you named the file r9photoshopped.jpg also indicated that there had been some work done :) (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y30/RichardS/r9photoshopped.jpg)
