Title: Break In
Post by: 3kushn on December 05, 2008, 07:15:09 PM
I've received my R9.  Got lucky and there was a few in stock but still had to wait since the shop I got it from is only open 3 days a week then had to wait/suffer through Thanksgiving before I had a chance to fire the Pup.

I'm not an expert by any means when it comes to hand guns and can't find the answer through the search engine so I'm starting this thread.

My first chance to shoot the gun was a 20 minute session that included a 10 minute walk so I only fired 18 rounds.  I had 2 stovepipes.  Today I had a chance to finish off that 100 round box and had 4 stovepipes.  Also, and I don't know what it's called, but on 3 occasions the shell didn't feed.  They were like pinched and wouldn't slide in.  Had to hold the slide back releasing pressure with one hand and release the magazine with the other.  Not easy to do.

Ammo was standard Winchester from Walmart.

Is this simply break in stuff and if so how many firings till the gun is broke in?

I love the gun.  It fits everything I was looking for.  Very small but with some backbone.  Just need some confidence she'll be there when I need her.

While I didn't have any issues with WWB, I'd give it another shot with some quality SD ammo and mark the mags.  They can help isolate a problem that way.

Did you clean it prior to the range?  Is it well lubed?

good thoughts on shooting quality ammo. Although a customer of mind shot everything he had laying around and no problems of any kind. Don't allow your wrist to break when shooting.  Tom

I read somewhere on this forum that Winchester was acceptable ammo.  I thought GREAT, I'll just go to Wal Mart, they have the best prices.

Two questions:
Should I purchase something else for the range?
What SD ammo is reliable for this gun?

Whenever I read posts with these questions it ends up with 10 or 20 answers.  With SD ammo I only need a box or 2 around so price is no issue.  Just looking for a "Can't go wrong with this ammo" kinda answer.  If possible.

Karl Rohrbaugh carries Winchester silver tip 115 HP, I like Speer Gold Dot 115 or 124 HP. I would shoot the same ammo I carry.  Tom
