And a welcome from me as well, coclimber. (By any chance would you happen to be a rock climber? If so, a double welcome from one who has dangled from a piton or two in his time.  8))

Bob,
There seems to be two types of gun owners on most forums
.
(1) Those that have a lot of knowledge and look down on those who do not.
(2) Those who are knowledgeable and are willing to share so others can learn.

We all know which type are on this forum.  ;D

"coclimber" is short for Colorado climber.  I like doing 14er-peaks (14,000 feet+; 57 in Colorado), but do a touch of "sport" top-rope rock climbing... 5.8 is my limit so far.  I'll never attempt "traditional" climbing, though; too old. :P

If I am not mistaken, the North America Wall on El Capitan is classified as a 5.8 climb. That, my new Forum colleague, "ain't too shabby."   8)

Personally, I had to scale back when I lost the first digit of my right ring finger in a bit of "unpleasantness" some years ago. However, I still enjoy taking on a good steep rock now and then, and one of my grandsons is well on his way to becoming a truly serious climber.

Welcome again to the Forum. I think you will find it to be a knowledgeable and collegial group around this campfire.

Gene:

The key to solving that problem is to get in close, don't look down, and maintain a secure hold on whatever is available.  ;)

Gene.  You probably won't have to look down.  The veiw is going to be good, for sure!
