Title: Free Photo Hosting Service
Post by: DDGator on May 22, 2004, 11:27:57 PM
In order to post pics here (and other places), you have to have them hosted on-line.  There are lost of servcies that will do it -- I picked one and it seems to work pretty good.

Ed,

To keep costs down, this forum doesn't host pictures, which burn a lot of server space.  Instead, you have to upload your pics to a photo hosting service like Photobucket.  There are many of them.

You then post the URL for the photo inside "image tags" -- you can use a botton on the toolbar to create the tags.

That is all there is to it.   ;)

Ed, I think it may be common for each ISP (Internet Service Provider) to provide disk space for their users.

My ISP is comcast.net.  They have screens for managing my account.  I go into an area where pictures can be uploaded from my computer to my disk space on their computer.

They try to make the process easy.

Have you tried it using your ISP?  If not, I could probably help some, although I am not an international authority.

As I recall, this is the way Comcast refers to the uploaded picture:

home.comcast.net/~MichigunnerII/SomeDirectoryName/picture name

Note the symbol ~ in the username.

Ed,

Cuteftp is considered by many of us to be one of the best file transfer programs.

However, you should be able to "upload" your pictures using facilities provided by your ISP.  You should not have to purchase any products.

??  Am I talking to someone who knows 100 times more about it than me?

Bill

Thanks Duane and Bill. When I get a chance I'll setup some pictures.

Bill, I'm not very experienced in some areas of computing. I have a lot of training and experience in electronics (US Air Force) and more recently in Large Business computers, communications systems (PBXs), voice mail systems, IVRs, Call Managment systems (CMS), etc. I work so much with computers and their business applications that I some sometimes fall behind in the recreational aspects of computing, like posting pictures etc. I keep am open mind and I am willing to learn from anyone at anytime. Thanks for the feed back.

I'm one of the "old" guys - 62 - and struggle with computer usage.  I use Photobucket, and find it relatively easy.  If I can do it, anyone can!
