The User Agreement has been modified with the following language:
**Important Note to New Members ** The forum has been plagued with registrations by commercial spammers. New forum members are encouraged to post somewhere in the forum soon after joining so it is clear you are not such a spammer. New users may be removed without warning if spamming is suspected. If you are deleted and intend to be a productive member of the forum, please e-mail the Administrator to clear up any confusion so you may re-register. We apologize for any inconveneince.
We are taking aggressive action to purge spammers. If you accidentally get caught up in one of these purges, I apologize for the inconvenience. No legitimate members are being targeted! Thanks.
-
It appears that a lot of gun boards are being targetted by professional spammers. FFF is getting a handful of hits per day.
If you're interested, PM me to compare notes.
-
In my spare time, I have delted 500+ members.
What is it these people are hoping to accomplish?
-
Don't delete. Ban. Deleted members can re-register again. Banned members need to get another e-mail address.
-
Ban their IP..... ;D
-
Banning the IP will also help but it has been my experience that most of them use a proxy server and come in on a different IP address each time.
-
We had the same problem over on www.therallypoint.org
We actually track IP and email addresses before we allow a member to have access to the forums.
-
I wish I had the technology to screen members like that -- I don't with this forum software. Maybe if we upgrade...
-
These %#&%^$'s are a royal PITA and yeah - most use proxy servers.
Quite how they hope to get sales when trolling/spamming our types of board I do not know! :( Certainly a ban is best but there again - some keep coming back. One source in UK and another from Russia are frequent.
They should consider themselves lucky that gun boards cannot live fire in their direction :D
-
Are you also seeing this at THR? How are they dealing with the problem?
-
What I think about these "bottom feeders" can't be expressed in polite company. Lately, I've been getting about five e-mail messages a day from crooked geeks hiding behind proxy servers trying to peddle junk bonds or penny stocks. I've even received two of those pathetic Nigerian "409 Scam" letters. (I thought those stupid things had run their course years ago.) Even my newest SPAM blocker can't keep up with all of this garbage.
I join Chris in the closing sentiment of his previous message.
-
Alan - yes THR and also CombatCarry - no one is immune as there is no way satisfactory put on a block.
Methodology has to be the usual PITA - hope someone spots them and we do a quick clean up. Members do often use the ''report to mod'' button and so that often helps fix things super quick.
''Bottom Feeders" Richard - yes indeed ........ parasites and all the other things we can't print here :(
-
I have taken some steps -- like banning certain known IP addresess and such, but it hardly stems the flow.
It is difficult to ban all these spam members because of the nature of the software. A little easier to delete them -- but still a multi-step process.
There have been 10+ spam members join since 9am this morning. >:( The wierd thing is that they almost never post anything -- they just join.
For a while we had 600+ spam members on the board! I was asleep at the switch I guess, but it didn't take long.
I don't understand what value they get out of joining the forum and not posting... Furthermore, I have to ask the question -- even if it doesn't cost them much to "advertise" in this way, what can it possibly be worth? Who buys products from these people?
Heck, even if you are the kind of person who pays for on-line pornography, do you decide to go to a particular Ukranian porn site because they are spamming the Rohrbaugh Forum? ??? I don't get it.
I wish someone smarter than me could explain the economics of this type of spamming to me... Anyone?
-
Wait, it gets better. One of the frequent e-mail addresses for these spam members (you can't see their e-mail, but I can) is something@cashette.com.
When you go to cashette.com it is an e-mail provider that promises to stop all "free" spam, and pay you for spam you agree to receive... Huh? They create spam and then want me to use their service to block spam? Then they want to charge other spammers to send me spam? You have to look at their FAQ - the whole thing makes my head hurt.
-
Duane - there is much out there to make the head hurt! These spammers always seem to be able to stay one step ahead by some means.
Like you, I fail to see how they make any sales! I'd be interested too to find out if in fact an order was placed, would anyone receive any goods! Whole darned thing smacks of scam entirely.
Grrrr ........... (not a very effective representation of how they chap my butt!).
-
About a month ago we had a couple of dozen spammers join and not post. Because they didn't post anything, it didn't occur to us that they were spammers but all of them had the same birthday. Then, on that day they all started spamming the board with a whole bunch of spam.
Be careful with non-posting spammers -- they are sleepers waiting for the correct time to strike.
Actually, be careful anything who signs up and doesn't post within a day or two.
-
I have always been suspicious if sign-ups who then never seem to post ......... it's like they want to get a key to the door, in case it is of use later.
May I reiterate to all - seeing as Duane and I cannot be on guard all the time to nail these clowns - do feel free if something noticed to PM one or both of us.
-
Hi guys,
I just joined and figured I better post so I don't get deleted.
I picked up my R9 all in black 2 weeks ago, after waiting ten months for it to come in. I love the size and want to see the general consensus on this gun. I bought it for off-duty carry and on duty back-up. I'll explore the forums and see what the members have to say.
I'm glad I found this forum!
Jim
-
Jim:
Welcome to the Forum! I hope you have as much success with your new R9 as I have had with mine for the past three plus years.
-
Jim,
Welcome-be sure to let us know your results with the pup!!
Lot's of info here for sure..
Brenden
-
Jim, welcome to the forum. It should serve you well in both cases. Tom
-
We're getting tons of these registrations over at Park Cities Tactical. We had to adjust the registration process. I would say that about 3-5% of registrations we receive are legitimate.
-
DDGator,
I look forward to more frequent exchanges with forum members. Thanks for your persistence in resolving my problem.
-
Just sending per request. New member not a spammer. Waiting for my R9. I hate waiting. But I know it's on the road.

Sorry guys, ain't no spammer, just have not been on the Rohrbaugh forum latley. Thanks a lot.
-
thanks
-
I am new here and just catching up on reading at this time. I run a network for a large company and as such I fight spammers, etc. everyday. The problem with banning them is that they usually use a differant email address almost by the hour. It is all done electronically that is why many of us are running anti spam appliances like the Ninja Blade and Barracuda. It is next to impossible to stop them without computer help. We went from 300,000 per day to 5000 perday by using the appliances.
Just my newbie 2 cents worth.

-
CarolinaDuke, a big welcome from Texas. Enjoy your pup and post often. Tom
-
Thanks all. This forum is fantastic from and education standpoint. Thrilled to join in.
-
Don't know if the forum can do this, but say somewhere on sign-up, there is an image which shows "You must post an introduction in area X, and include the phrase "Hullabaloo Caneck Caneck" in it in some fashion...
-
Aglifter. Don't know what that's about, but just had a thought. Don't you take the Bar Exam this month? Wishing you the best, on that!
-
It is words from an old Aggie fight song still in use today. My grandfather graduated from there in 1911 at age 19 and my father and uncle were class of '37 and '41. One might say that Hullabaloo, Caneck, Caneck are onomatopoeic.
-
You come from one educated family. Excellent.

Sort of like Baa Baa Black Sheep and Old McDonald.
-
Exactly.
-
I thought so. :) :)
-
Only with much more enthusiasm when directed against the Texas Longhorns.
-
Yes, with the yearly talley something like 72 wins for UT and 34 for the Aggies and 5 ties, I would think the Aggies would be quite aggressive and rightly so.
-
The 'Horns have definitely hooked 'em but there is a lot of alacrity left in the 12th man.
-
I'm sure they have that eagerness to win, definitely.
-
It is an indomitable spirit that carries forward. There were more officers in the armed forces from A&M in WWll than all of the other combined service academies.
-
I'm sure UT is taking that into consideration. Maybe that's why they're dominating so far.

That is a commendable record. Excellent.

This is my "I'm not an evil Spammer" post. I don't even have the R9 yet. Although I do have the holster, High Noon Tailgunner, and the local FFL has my significant deposit.
I'm just waitin' for the call and reading the Forum. The more I read the less buyers remorse I feel.
-
Welcome to the forum Albert! Hope it's as much help to you as it has been to me. Post often. Gene
-
Al. Welcome to the Forum. Way to go on ordering the R9 and getting the holster first. I know the feeling on the waiting. Again, welcome.
-
Albert,
Welcome from NC. Enjoy the good company here, and congrats on the R9 order.
John
-
Al:
Welcome to the campfire! It's a good group around here.
As for "buyer's remorse," we've had a few cases of that reported but they all seem to have involved remorse over buying just one. ;D
-
Al. Haven't heard from you since I welcomed you Feb. 19th. You surely have your R9 by now. Let us know your thoughts. Your R9 and the High Noon Tailgunner holster are probably broken in good. :)
-
Good eye, KJ.
Al, I believe that the ball is in your court. ;)
-
I guess Al is AWOL ;D
John
-
I did see where he had signed in about two weeks ago. Thought he may would give us an update then.

I am a new member here. Just bought an R9, lightly used. It will take some work to get used to it. Worth it, though. :)
-
dannyb. Welcome to the Forum. Excellent decision in getting the R9. You nailed it; definitely worth it. Again, welcome.
-
dannyb, welcome to the forum and enjoy your pup. Tom

Welcome dannyb! I'm betting you and your R9 will become close friends. Show us a picture of it when you get a chance, we LOVE pictures.

Been lurking here for a while and finally joined. I do not own a pup (yet) but seriously considering one - perhaps in the next couple of days (I figure it's at the top of my Christmas list). ;D
-
JR. Welcome to the Forum and in soon to get the R9. If you don't have a dealer, contact Tom Watson of The Irish Guard Firearms; he's a member here on the Forum and will be glad to help. Again, welcome.

Thanks for the welcome!
I don't exactly have a dealer in mind yet - no one near me is a dealer. But very near (like within a mile) of my wife's parents home there IS a dealer - and we have to go there next week anyway so I plan to stop and see if they have anything in stock. At Thanksgiving time they did not but were expecting some in. If they DO have stock, a pup may just follow me home ...
-
JR, A warm welcome from me as well. I see you are from the frozen north, I moved from south of Buffalo to NC about seven years ago. (I don't miss the snow ;D)
I see you are a member at PAFOA, I have been selling pistol brass to reloaders on there for several months.
John
-
I moved from south of Buffalo to NC about seven years ago.
You should be very glad right about now for that move! They have gotten a LOT of snow the last 2 weeks and have been generous enough to have shared some with the town I live in; we have good friends in NC - former neighbors on our street.
I am a member of PAFOA under the same screen name - I lurk a lot but post little. It's a lot friendlier here ...

I have had 7 years of being glad I moved here, better weather and it is a much friendlier state to gun owners.
I have only posted on the PA forum in the classifieds, I don't have time to post in the other sections as I am on about fifteen + forums selling brass ;D
John
-
John. We're glad to have you in NC. :)
-
kj, Thanks,
Not everyone down here is happy to see yankees. :o ;D
It hasn't been much warmer here than up North the last week or so. :o But I'm not in snow up to my assets. One of our friends back home said they got 4' of snow and the forecast was calling for 2 more, that I don't miss. ;D

Hello R9ers! I've been referring my Rohrbaugh customers to this great forum, and if there's an extra seat, I thought I might sit in. I keep an R9s available for test driving. It's trigger has such a perfect let off that the gun stays rock steady when the hammer drops.
-
gunthorp, Welcome to the group, there is always an open spot for anyone interested in the pup.

And a welcome from me as well. I certainly agree with you about the R9's trigger.
-
Thank you all very much for the welcome. I have been a Rohrbaugh dealer for several years. All those whom I have served are as delighted with their pups as they are with the Kahrs and Kimbers I recommend.
-
gunthorp,
Very nice web site you have and a good writeup on the R9.
I see you are from the frozen North, I'll pry for sunshine for you. ;D
Again Welcome aboard and good job referring your R9 customers here.

This is my first post, No Spam here. I'm glad to be a newbie after many hours lurking this past week, (It really didn't take a week to know this would be a great community to get to know). Thanks for all the excellent information. I graduated to my first R9s eight days ago, after progressing thru Keltec and Ruger 380's over the last year or so. I was trying to decide if I really wanted any pocket pistol.
This little gun has answered most of those concerns. I look forward to learning more from you and buying a few of the well designed additions to care and functionality of this liitle beauty.
-
eyed, Welcome to the group. Congrats on the purchase of the finest pocket pistol going.
John
-
eyed. Welcome to the Forum. Congratulations on the R9. Do enjoy. You'll really like some mag extensions, the takedown tool, and yes, the R9 coffee mug, John sells here on the Forum in the Classifieds. Check 'em out. Again, welcome.
-
eyed:
And a welcome to me with congratulations on obtaining what I consider to be the finest pocket pistol yet designed.
-
eyed, welcome to the forum and congrats on the R9. Tom
-
Thanks for the warm welcome!
I'm heading over to John's place here to get started with the mag extensions.
-
Don't forget a couple R9 coffee mugs. :)
-
.... and the take down tool. :)
BTW: A belated welcome to the forum, eyed, from me as well.

New member here myself. WELL, I joined a few years ago and have been lurking awhile. I acquired a R9 (serial #R876) by trading a Glock to a guy in CT. What a deal, huh? Anyway, I have yet to shoot it, ::) , but hope to soon.

A Glock for a Rohrbaugh. You did well. Rather like trading a Mack for a Ferrari. ;)
Welcome!
