What happen to the (s)
« on: January 25, 2007, 09:37:56 PM »
I purchased a Rohrbaugh the other day the one with the sights R9s, this was on the paperwork from the Gun shop.  I went to the Police station today to register the Gun, when they wanted to know why the paperwork stated R9s and on the side of the Gun was Rohrbaugh R9.  My question: Does Not the one with the sights have R9s on the side and the one without just has R9. Am I the only one like this or is this a mistake gun. I am not sure if I should call the company?  They were a little concerned becuse of the model.

If you look at the operating Instructions Booklet, there are two Rohrbaughs  one has the R9s w/sights and the other is marked R9.

This issue was discussed in posts a while ago and it is
not a problem or an anomaly. The N.Y. police questioned
this several years ago with Rohrbaugh and they decided
to put Rohrbaugh R9 on all of the guns. Since there are
no guns without sights anymore there should not be a
question; to ease your fears and to receive a complete
explanation of the history, please call the factory.

That is all I wanted to know, just wanted to make sure mine was not the only one, it was just the police wanting to know why the papers said one thing and the Gun had something else.

Thanks for the Info.

Dan:

Yes, the "Blues" are in the gun safe along with the G10s.  I've been carrying the "pup" with the Black CFs lately.  They match RJ's beautiful black holster.   ;)

tracker posted that Rohrbaugh is no longer producing R9's without sights.  Is this correct?  Just curious as I would not have an R9 without the sights.  They are very adequate for the gun.

The answers have been pretty much given but ....... an approx chronology .......

IIRC the first R9 design was sightless and then the decision was made to make slides with sights.  There was therefore in early days a choice of R9 or R9s ..... my first one was R9s but as was said .... ATF had a problem with this and ''s'' was dropped.

Due to very small uptake on sightless models a while back it was decided to make only ones with sights but - a special order could quite easily be fullfilled for sightles by an extra machining operation on a now standard sighted slide.

You'll see the ''s'' here on my first one but not much later that had been dropped.  Blue CF grips of course on both at that time.  Opps url wrong first time!
