Hi all,
I bought a new R-9s with a black slide Saturday at a local gun shop here in Minnesota.
Unfotunatly it was 3:30 PM Saturday and the store was closing at 4:00 PM. and they are closed on Sunday's.
I forgot to add my S.S. number on the fourm and when the salesman called it in to the Gov. for the OK they put it on hold. Red flag go up cause I didn't give the S.S. number?
This is like my 24th pistol I bought and this has never happened before.
Well I hope it get's cleared up today so I can pick it up.
If I don't get it today I'll be out of town for a few days on business and can't get it till Friday.
Man, I hate waiting like this.
I'll get a picture and a range report on the new pup as soon as I can.

Welcome to the Forum. I know how you feel. I've purchased my first R9 used and waiting for it to arrive at my FFL. I'm guessing mine should be here by this Friday. I'm also waiting for a Seecamp LWS.380 but that will probably be months not days. Enjoy you Pup when you get it. Be safe. :) :)

Oscar, I feel for you buddy. There must be a bad guy some where who has the same name thats causing the delay problem. The SS# seperates folks with same names on the data base. It should be cleared up soon. If not the dealer can give the NICS people your SS# to clear it up. Tom

Just called the dealer. Still a no go. I wounder how long it will take. I wished I would have not forgot to add my SS. number to the form and waited to pay for it until I could actually leave the store with it.
I guess I'm just not a very patiant person. :-/

I got a deal on it a while back and have close to 1,000 rounds.

Oscar, the NICS delay doesn't last for a long time. If your dealer doesn't hear in 48 hours, he can transfer it to you. Also the dealer can call NICS about the delay and update info so approval can happen.
Oscar, PM me with the name of the dealer in Minnesota please.

Welcome to the Forum, and good luck with concluding the formalities for obtaining your new R9.
The standard pressure for 9 x 19 mm established by SAAMI is 35,000 psi. The SpeerŪ - Gold Dot "Dive" Ammunition 9mm Luger SOC 124 Grain GDHP is not supposed to exceed that level. I would therefore assume that it would be safe to use in your R9. However, since it is a subsonic round intended for spec-ops work, including underwater opertions, I'm not sure I would use it as a carry round. If you have 1,000 on hand, though, it certainly would be tempting to do some serious wet-pack testing. If you do try it out at the range, please post your observations.

Finally made it back to town and picked up my new R-9.
Took it apart for a look and found it to be a tad more involved than the glock.
I made a wood spacer to hold the slide open so I could more easily push the pin out.
I cleaned and lubed even though it didn't need it.
Noticed that the spring looks different than the pictures I saw on the net. They look the same on both ends so I'm guessing it does not matter which way you put them together now?
Anyway putting things back together was a bit harder. The spring was the hardest for me as I didn't want to use a channel lock (Pliers) on my gun.

What is a sub sonic round?
I thought it was a heavy slow round?
Is the Gold dot SOC ammo slower than the other Gold Dots mentioned on this forum as a preffered ammo?
I want to make sure i'll be carrying the best in this short barreled gun.

Oscar, good looking Stealth. It gets easier the more you do it. Take it slow and easy to start and use Speer Gold Dot or Winchester 115 or 124 gr HPs. Tom

It will be ok but you will get a lot of crud from the sealant and possible jams.

Well I finally got to the range and was pleasantly suprised. This little gem shot like a dream. Much smoother and accurate than I tought.
I was afraid the recoil would be closer to my 12 oz. .357 mag.
Not even close.
I shot a box of Remington UMC FMJ's., and a magazine of each UMC JHP's and Glod dot SOC JPH's.
I did manage to limp wrist a couple of the FMJ's as I was getting lazy.
I would like to maybe look at doing something with the sights just because of my 54 year old eye's but no hurry.
I'm also thinking that this gun should be (in the future sometime) be supplied with a tool to aid in R&R.
Anyway, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Welcome. After all those shots you're entitled to a few limp wristings (is that a word?).

I think it's a very discriptive and real word as I have a Keltec P3AT that will limpwrist if not held tightly.
Before I shot the 50 rounds thru my new pup, I shot 100 rounds thru the Glock 27. I found the recoil of the rs9 to be a little less.
I have a blister on my finger. ::)
