Title: My handguns
Post by: Rocnerd on November 02, 2005, 08:23:23 PM
Seeing all of R9sCarry's great pictures inspired me to emulate him.  Since I enjoy looking at the collections of others I thought I might share mine.  Hope you enjoy.

Rocnerd,
SWEET! Excellent pictures of some very nice handguns. I hope you don't mind, but I've downloaded a few of your picures to use as my computer background/wallpaper. I rotate my wallpaper every week or so with a differnt gun picture. Your pictures will make a great addition to my collection.

Rocnerd, have you ever had any malfunctions with your P-32?

I never see any bad reports about that pistol.

Yes, the first time I took it out the retaining pin spring got wedged in between the plastic of the frame and the metal of the rails.  I sent it back to Kel-tec and turn around was quick and no failures since with 300 rounds or so through it.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone (Edman, don't mind at all). Lets see some of your guys photos!

Brenden, I was extremely fortunate with my P3AT.  Not a problem.  Of course, I got the R9S anyway because I wanted 100% reliability, which it has provided so far.

My fingers are still crossed.

I couldn't make my P-32 work at all.  So I sold it and bought a first generation P-3AT.  The P-3AT kept losing it's pin.  So I sold it and bought a Rohrbaugh.  Success at last!

Kel-Tec had a wonderful concept about being inexpensive, and light and small.  Who could resist?

It's a shame they couldn't take another step to make sure all are 100% going out the door.

I'll say one thing about the P3AT.  The slide is very hard to operate.  They should probably send along a big hand grip with a hook just to pull on the slide.

At the target range, it helps to keep filling the magazine, with one in the chamber.  That way, you can forget about the slide.

That's another pistol that might respond well to abrasive tape on the grip.

My P-3AT's slide isn't that hard to manipulate...  ??? I wonder if that was a problem with your gun Michigunner?
Title: Re: My handguns
Post by: Michigunner on December 05, 2005, 08:24:38 AM
Good question.  It was extremely hard to work, made even worse by the small grabbing area.

I remember reading about it on their forum.

Part of the problem could be less hand strength compared to that of a younger person.

Rocnerd - Oh my!!  HOW did I miss this thread?  Well I did - darn it!

Great pics and very nice eye candy.  Good job and some lovely pieces there - glad you could post them for our enjoyment.  Thank you. :)

I posted about this before but - not sure if it was seen by that many.   A while ago on a whim - took a bunch of my stills of handguns and put them into a vid with music - it is already slightly out of date - one new one and another traded for something else but - hey, no collection is static for ever.

One file is a bit smaller than the other to assist dial-up folks.  Also if your media player enlarged just a bit - the text can be made out on most.

Richard - how?

I used a vid editing program - and just placed the stills as a sequence with a finite time of exposure for each - and used a simple fade in/out to transition each - added some music and - that was it!!  Saved as a movie of course.

Yeah, I saw that when you originally posted that and really enjoyed it.  In fact that was what made me finally take some pictures of mine.  Taking a cue from you I used the red background which I think works very well.  The lighting on some of mine were a bit off, but overall I was pleased.  Thanks for the kind words.

Dan - haha - spoiled for choice it might seem!  In fact - carry choices are very limited - out of those shown I have carried over time - in order - M85 snub, P95, BHP, M28, SP-101 and finally early this year transitioned to current SIG 226 ST - which will all but stay put now a long time probably - that said I could substitute that with 228 or 220 and still have same manual of arms.  Those two are not in the vid as they ''arrived'' since!

I have in later times carried with CT grips - thus they are on all SIG's, SP-101 and M28 (also actually on a 629!).

I have reached carry stage now where I wish to emulate - ''beware the man with but one gun'' - all the rest are cherished possessions and all get shot periodically - the big cannons are potentially hunting guns too.

Oh I near forgot - yes, I did carry one other for a coupla weeks, when I had a prob with SIG - that was the SW99 - nice compact piece and shoots great but ergonomically rather different.

Biggest problem is finding time to shoot my rifles and carbines ;D

You do carry the 9mm Sigs with the 20 round mags?? ;) ;D

The CTs are VERY nice and getting more and more variety!!

Brenden - well the 228 has max 12 IIRC but daily 226 is carried with a 15 - and if a second mag carried that probably another 15 but - but have two 20's and so one of those as spare would be viable - ain't gonna worry if it sticks out after a reload ;D

But yeah well - 20's for actually carry - hummm - bit too projecting  ;) :P

Thanks gentlemen.  I did indeed succumb to temptation, but the price made it easier to do so.  I didn't do as well on the price with this one as the last one, bought the 2 in model from a friend's father for $500, but still better than I thought I would do.  It has some wear marks on the end of the barrel and the cylinder so I got him to reduce the price a little more after our initial bit of haggling.  I think he just wanted to make a sale.  Anyway, I just need to get the 6 in and 3 in and I'll be all set.

Well the family grows.  Not only did I finally pick up my other P7M8 from layaway we bought my wife a smith model 60.  She is going to use it in a women's only handgun defense class this saturday.  I am picking the CT grips for it on Thursday, though those grips are so pretty it will be tough to change them out.

Recently I received a S&W Model 37 as a gift from my wife.  Not sure why I like it - maybe because I had a M36 years ago - maybe because I grew up when on TV all the detectives used snub noses and no autos - maybe I just like to shoot something that is easy to clean.
Oh Well

Dave - not too long ago my dear son decided it was time to carry.  I have never pressed him on it tho always wanted him too of course.  Heck he's near 29 - in 2 days in fact!

I think now because he has one little one and another on the way - he sees even more point.  He actually traded in his still very new GP-100 which was a shame but got a 37 like you have there.

I gave him some range time and was able to let him have a spare pancake rig I had.  He gets on with it very well indeed - I quite like it too.  Let him have a spare Comp I loader too so he is reasonably set up now.

I always have a spot for snubs even tho no longer carry one much.

There is something about wheel guns that the autos just don't capture for me.  Love them both, but the revolvers have been ruling the gun fund lately.  My next purchase is also going for a revolver.  This time in .41 Magnum.  I just need to decide if I want a S&W model 57 or Ruger Black Hawk or Super Black Hawk.  There is a special edition Davidsons SBH with Bisley grips that I would like to check out.  So, hopefully the next gun show up in Lakeland will provide me with an example of each and then I can decide.
Nice snub nose Dave.

Chris - sounds like it is working well with your son - that is great - can't see the model 37 replacing my R9 or Seecamp - but I do like it.

Roc - you are correct there is something about a wheel gun thats gets into your blood.

Tom - at least the poodle reject gets a second chance on making a difference in someone's life, and its own, and that is good.

Think I'll go and play with my new 37.

Even though I got the S&W 37 from dealer new stock I'm not sure when it was made or if S&W still makes it without the internal lock -anyone know.
Also - is there anyway to tell what year it was made from the bar code or something.

do you think it's in part the simplicity & reliability of the revolver that recommends it.  i think when i wear my 640 that i actually feel a little calmer about the prospect of having to use it.  maybe just because i learned with a similar animal.  i have a (pretty big) number of auto feeders, and with some of my pets i have literally never had a failure to fire . . .

but i still feel surer when i strap on the 6 shooter.

I feel the same way.  I've never had a problem w. my R9, and after a couple thousand rounds, not one hiccup w. my 1911 -- but I feel better w. my SP101 -- possibly because it feels so good in my hand.

Picked up a new Simith & Wesson Model 60 this weekend to go with the Model 37 I got two weeks ago.  Considering I have not bought a wheel gun for over twenty years, for me this is an event.

You just can't beat pulling the hammer back and hearing the cylinder rotate and lock in - almost hypnotic to the ears.  Since you hardly see a wheel gun on TV or the movies now days it takes those of us who grew up on westerns, Dragnet, Hawaii five-o, and etc.  to appreciate that sound.

Welcome back, again Dave to revo-land! :)

The sound sequence of a cocking revo - is in some ways a muted form of the racked pump action shottie - instantly recognizable.  Well to us oldies anyways! ;)

I think you will enjoy that tho have to say I am not a lover of the darned ''spider hole'' - I have two ''dash sixes'' with that abomination!  Also being a (boring) purist always still prefer square but to round, but hey - I wax pedantic.  I'd be happy as all get out to have and shoot that baby.  Enjoy !

Chris - When did the Model 60 become .357 - was it from the beginning around 1965 - I was thinking at first it was just a .38 (was it called a Chief's Special) - I know the Model 60 was the first stainless pistol.
Title: Re: My handguns
Post by: R9SCarry on February 26, 2006, 11:53:00 PM
Dave - Model 60 in .38 spl came out around 1965 as the ''no dash'' and yes, ''Chief's Special".  It went then thru various subtle changes over the years.

In 1996 it became the Model 60-9 - with the change to 357 mag cyl and j frame.  In 1997 the 38 spl version was it seems re-introduced.  That was again phased out in 1999.
Title: Re: My handguns
Post by: MountainMan on February 27, 2006, 12:02:21 AM

I guess then they dropped the dashes since there are none I see.  I have wondered if there was way to tell when a S&W was made by some code number on the box.

Hmmm - no dice from that - last ref I have is for Oct 2000 with CEF prefix.  So yours must be well on from that.

I forgot to ask too - when you open crane - what is stamped on area beneath.  The region where model # usually shown.  I guess it'll say ''60'' but wonder if anything as well as that.

I daresay Dave it is very recent production - perhaps last year.

My wife had a foot operation last November, and since has had to sleep most nights on the recliner to keep her foot from swelling.  Well this Wednesday the same foot needs reoperated on - which we both are very unhappy about - another several months on the recliner during the healing process.

So on those lonely nights in bed I may keep the R9 under my wife's empty pillow.  And I have to admitt - as Chris said - to some R9 "fondling".

Shucks Dave - that foot deal is or must be miserable - all way back to November too.  So now Nancy has to endure more of the same!!  Sheesh - how grim.

My dear son has had recurrent problems with his big toe on one foot - surgery twice in two years - and damn thing still playing up again.  Feet can be so easily taken for granted - when there are problems, we sure know about it.

Wishes from here anyways that any further surgery will do the trick and deal with her troubles.

Everything is relative - it is something how, as Chris said, we take some things for granted.  I'm sure you would readily go through foot surgeries if that would help you to walk.

Chris or anyone:
Ammo question for my new S&W model 60
I know that you are able to shot .38 ammo (regular and +P) in a .357 but I have never done so, even though I have owned a Dan Wesson .357 for many years.

If I decided to shot  .38 ammo in my new S&W .357 model 60 is there any downside in doing so?  I know that you can get a carbon buildup in the cylinders that would require cleaning before loading .357 ammo.   Any other downside?
Title: Re: My handguns

AFAIK Dave you have snagged the only real downside.  I have shot 1,000's of rounds of target 38's over the years - mostly for comp use (PPC etc) - and they shoot just great.

If tho the crud ring is periodically dealt with then 357's should chamber just fine.  One thing in a SS revo - you can with some judicious careful use, use a stainless bristle brush with stubborn rings.

Preferably tho - use the phos/bronze brush and #9 for example but - chuck it in a cordless drill - run that at medium rev's while ''in-and-outing'' for each chamber - usually does a quick and easy job!

Oh and - only other downside - well it applies to whatever you put thru - is leading if you use any cast bullets - forcing cone build up does need dealt with as well as bore.  Plus chamber throats too.

Foot surgery is a big pain in the . . . er . . . foot  ;D.  I dated a girl that had surgery on both feet for bunyons and I ended up carrying her around, car to house, etc, because it would take her too long to maneuver on two sore feet.

Here is wishing your wife a speedy recovery.

As far as .38s in a .357, I shoot far more .38s due to price and punishment.  The price is much cheaper for a box of .38s and the punishment of shooting .357 in a snub nose can be brutal.  I once shot 50 rounds of .357 almost as fast as I could load and shoot for a handgun class I took and my hand was swollen the next day.  I have yet to shoot the wife's model 60 with .357s, but the .38 +p were pleasant.

I agree with you Chris, the "zit" on the new S&W wheelies are a definite blemish.

Foot surgery went well so far - of course that was what I thought the first time.

Roc - seems like you didn't marry the girl you carried around :)

If you shoot your wife's model 60 with .357 let me know what you think.  It will be awhile before I get around to it with other things happening.

I picked up a box of .357 mag the other night with that intention.  Actually I want to shoot it side by side with my friend's SP101 to see if there is any perceivable difference.  We shot the 60 and SP101 last weekend with .38 and .38 +p and couldn't feel much difference in recoil and didn't see any difference in accuracy or trigger pull for that matter.  That surprised me because I always remembered thinking the the action on the smith was like butter compared to a Ruger.  Of course that was ten or so years ago, wow I haven't shot or picked up a smith revolver in ten years?!, so who knows what improvements Ruger or shortcuts Smith has made since then.  I do prefer the cylinder release on the Ruger, but all in all I would take either one. Both nice guns.  I'll let you know about the .357.
Title: Re: My handguns
Post by: Rocnerd on March 12, 2006, 09:36:48 PM
Well, I shot the Model 60 with .357 loads for the first time.  That was fun.  Big bang, big kick, nice fireball, everyone in the range going, what the hell was that?! :D.  One word of advice though, if your wedding ring isn't smooth (mine has a braided rope thing running down the center that likes to grab whiskers) take it off before shooting with the .357.  I skinned my pinkey after three cylinders full.  Lot of fun though.

So, I took that training class last weekend and had a blast, but my grip on the Glock had a tendecy to eject the spent round but fail to strip off another from the magazine.  This resulted in the gun going click several times during the two day session.  This hadn't ever happened before, but I hadn't taken a class with that particular gun before either.  So, instead of changing my grip, which would probably have been smarter and cheaper, I use the tax return to get a Sig.  I just need to get some leather for it and run another couple hundred rounds through it before I commit.  Then it will accompany me to the Advanced handgun class this May.

With the larger frame surface between the trigger and slide my thumb won't prevent the slide from recoiling the entire length and stripping the next round from the mag.  At least that is the theory.  Only time will tell whether I go to the Sig full time or adjust my grip for the Glock (since I just might miss the glock too much to leave it behind).

We also picked up a PPK for my wife who decided she would like to have an auto, and even though she did like the kahr the PPK won out on the looks category.  Here it is with my other small autos;

And just for grins and giggles another family shot, with order of purchase going from top left down, next row down, etc.

I have always wanted a 229 but didn't like the DA/SA setup for carry.  I checked some 229s with the DAK trigger, but thought it was too heavy.  My friend then showed me the SAS and that trigger is very sweet.  Smooth and easy.  The rationalization soon began and I won. . . er lost. . . won and it came home with me.

One of these days I should try a video like you did Chris, that was very nice.

Michigunner:  I'm not Rocnerd, but my personal experience with two Keltec's (P32/P11) have been excellent.  Both 100% reliable* , and accurate at self defense range.

I read and post on KTOG & KelTecRange and it seems like most complaints center around the P3AT (1st series).  I don't know if the newer series has resolved the problems, but you seldom hear bad things about the P32's.

The * above is because the P11 has been 100% reliable with all ammo I've tried w/the exception WallyWorldWhiteBox ammo.  I use that wwwb cheap stuff for plinking, and it has caused (at some time or another) problems in my Walther P1, KelTec P11, Bersa Thunder 9 (UC), Star BM, & S&W 3913..

It is my opinion that the quality of WWWB ammo varies from lot to lot because of different suppliers and lack of quality control.  It is so cheap that I shoot a lot of it, but before I get down on one of my pistols for ftf or fte, etc. I change ammo and that has resolved the problem.

The only pistol I own that has NEVER misfired with any brand of ammo is my SIG P239..  I think the SIG would cycle peanuts if you could attach a primer to it...  I love my Sig..

Thanks, JP.  Sorry about the confusion of Userid.

Well, I'm also very pleased with the Sig P239.  Mine works like a champion.

I went a little crazy and got the Sig short trigger, had the slide hard chrome plated, the frame done with Cobra coat, and some premium select grips from Hogue.  Also, got MMC sights.

I was going to leave it in the safe, but decided to shoot it instead.

My P3AT always behaved perfectly, but it was extremely hard to crank the slide back because of the small grabbing area.

Thanks for the  info.

Roc - very sweet indeed.  Most desirable.  What ''dash #'' ?

I am as most know an N frame devotee and the .41 is rather a special cal - many folks like the way it ''fits'' nicely between the 357 and 44 - compromize!

I mentioned after Tulsa having found one of my ''quests'' which was a M29 - but don't think I posted a pic here - would have liked a dash 2 but this dash 3 was just so tight I had to go for it.

Title: Re: My handguns
Post by: R9SCarry on April 19, 2006, 04:59:52 PM
Roc - they help identify the age bracket - most dashes are issued when a small design change occurs.  The M29 (and M27's IIRC) for example was pinned and recessed from dash nothing to dash 2 - my dash 3 was first with barrel non-pinned and non recessed chamber mouths.  So - a no dash will usually be the first of a line.

By the time you get to the dash 6's re 625 and 629 you'll find the nasty ''spider hole'' on left of frame - the wonderful Brady-pleasing lock!!

Open your crane and swing out cyl - and look at the area which would covered just above the pivot point - should show model # and any dash #.  If you give me the start figures of your SN (use xxx for last three digits) - I can find out the DOB probably on yours.

Title: Re: My handguns
Post by: R9SCarry on April 19, 2006, 09:57:08 PM
Not quite as early as you may think - tho being ''no dash'' - of course it is pinned and recessed, which eventually ceased with dash #1 in 1982.  Production started way back in 1964!

Yours dates to 1975-1977 bracket and looking at SN, nearer '77 IMO. :)  Go for middle and say late '76 ;)

Nice find indeed.  Can't really lose money on those babies.

MoutainMan,

THAT's uncanny...you and I now have the exact same setup!  My primary when I can get away w/ it, is the Ultra CDP, wih the R9 as the BUG.

You'll love the CDP.  I put an S&A magwell on - gave a great feel, and added about 1/4" to the overall grip.  That, combined with those inexpensive rubber finger groove grips...and it's easily the finest fit of any handgun I've ever owned.  By far, in fact.

So, does this mean great minds think alike?   ;D

Looking forwad to your shooting impressions.

Was going to get an Ultra CDP but thought it was too close to the R9 and would probably carry the R9 - so went up a size to a Compact CDP - still has the same grip size as the Ultra.

Have to decide what holster will work best.

The holster I almost always default to is the Milt Sparks VersaMax 2.  The VM2 is just so flexible.  Sometimes, like now, I have the kydex clips attached, and I can just slip it on the pants I'm wearing, and (yes, it's true), can actually tuck my shirt over it, and have a very presentable appearance.

Have I mentioned my Pocket Defender holster for my Ultra CDP?  K&D Holsters made it for our very own Duane, here at the board, and I bought it from him.  Believe it or not, when my R9 was at the factory, I actually wore it with shorts for a couple weeks!  :-)

Also, I've got VM2 belt loops for 1 1/2 and 1 1/4 belts, and that setup is even more solid.  Just a little less "low profile".

Enjoy the search!  BTW, have you ever used Lightening Arm Sports?  They generally have some top notch holsters in stock, albeit at a slight premium, as they buy inventory from holster makers who are really backed up with orders.  A few extra bucks is okay by me, to avoid a months-long wait.

Spectro,

I really enjoyed the couple of VM-2 holsters I had.  Outstanding design.  I never did try my Kydex clips.

I finally decided that since my shirt was out, a belt holster would be more comfortable.  Nobody will see it anyway, same as a VM-2 with an untucked shirt.  The 55-BN belt holster is much better for me.

The big problem will be carrying the HK USP 45 full-size when the 55-BN arrives.

Thanks for the holster feedback.

Are you using Kimber magazines with your Ultra?  My brother has a Kimber stainless Compact and likes Wilson mags.  He read on a forum on some people having problems with the extra Kimber follower that sticks up scratching the feed ramp for alum. frame models.

Well, I have a mix of mags.  Most ARE Wilson Combat, which I have great confidence in.

I have some other Chip McCormick mags (makes Kimbers I'm told), and they seem fine to me.  As to the follower - maybe I'm missing it, but usually there's a round in the mag, so I don't see how the metal follower could be much of a problem (?).

Well I finally shot my new 1911 .45 ACP Kimber (4 inch barrel compact) for the first time today.

Interesting the manual says it has a 500 round break in - and some people complain if their gun has a FTF in the first several magazines.  Oh - no FTF today.

I was amazed how accurate the Kimber was.  Below is my first seven round magazine fired at a box about 33 feet away.  This is also the first time I've shot a .45 ACP.  Recoil was rather tame compared to the R9 I thought.

The interesting thing is I was just shooting off hand and I wanted to see where the brass landed in the leaves so I could collect them to check them out - was shooting in the back of my property in the woods with the box leaning against a dead tree.   So my eyesight was looking above the gun also as I shot so I could keep an eye on the flying brass.

So overall I was very pleased.

Second, welcome to the "1911 .45 ACP Club."

Don't get me wrong -- I love my R9, as well as a few other handguns.  However, I was issued my first 1911 .45 ACP in 1963 and have been a true and grateful believer in John Browning's crowning achievement ever since that time.

Richard and Tom:  Thanks for the nice comments - I'll take a first time 2.5 inch group from 33 feet while being bitten by black flies (or as we call them here - deer flies).

My brother loaned me the Wilson mag. -- he read on a 1911 forum site that the mag that comes with the Kimber, with the metal follower, has been know to damage the alum. feed ramp on this model.  The Wilson has a plastic follower like the R9.  I'm going to order a few.

I was very surprised on the tame recoil on this gun - think it is a little over 25 oz.  I would say it is half the R9.  Used Federal American Eagle 230 gr. FMJ.
Title: Re: My handguns
Post by: R9SCarry on June 18, 2006, 12:35:17 AM
Dave - VERY nice piece indeed and yes - flies allowed for, darned good grouping, that's for sure :)

I do think extra weight and ''length out front'' do make a huge difference regarding perceived recoil - and so controllability seems better too.

Many folks can be quite surpised with a .45acp - they expect 44 mag recoil when in fact they are, well, not tame - but very acceptable indeed.

I have the same model -- I've been very happy with it -- shot about 1500 rounds through it, had a couple stovepipes on the first day, and that was it -- it wears in quite a bit.  Keep an eye on your recoil springs -- my manual says to change them at 2000 rounds, but I started to have reliability issues at 1000 rounds, which went away when I put in a wolff spring set.  Its a pretty addictive gun to shoot, you'll go through 500 rounds pretty quick.
Title: Re: My handguns
Post by: MountainMan on June 18, 2006, 10:39:49 PM
Aglifter

The Kimber manual now says to change the recoil spring at 800 rounds.

I decided to use the Wilson mag because of concerns of damage to the feed ramp using the "issue" mag after firing the last round -- I read about this in a 1911 forum.

What mag are you using and does your feed ramp look ok after 1500 rounds?

How you define, "it wears in quite a bit"?  Do you mean visable wear?

Thanks

Mine definately showed plenty of visible wear.  I use all kinds of mags -- Kimber, prior to the two step design, mecgars, mccormicks -- it was always my briefcase gun -- I kept my 642 on me prior to getting the pup, and I never had any reliability issues other than the recoil spring.  It has some wear on the slide rails, and on the sides of the feed ramp, but not in the middle of it -- again, it hasn't changed since the first 500 rounds, so it's just a little polishing.

Thanks!

If you use JHP with this Kimber what ammo brand do you find that works best?

All I ever used in it was hydrashocks.  I never treated it that seriously as a carry gun -- I should have, but I didn't.  Now, it's just a toy.

Nice Kimber!  I am trying to convince this guy I met at my local gun shop to sell me his Kimber 10mm, but I think he was having second thoughts.  My friend who works there said he would talk to him.  We'll see.  I have dropped my slide from the SAS off to have them install the rear night sights.  I should then be able to confidently put it into daily carry while not in the office.

Well, new addition arrived last week.  My lady decided she would like to get a glock for the next class we are taking in September.  I think she just wanted to fit in with the rest of the class since everyone seemed to be using glocks at the last one she took.  I didn't care about the reason, as long as she is willing to shoot a 9mm over her .380 I was all for it.  So, we went and looked at the Glock 19, XD9 sub-compact, HK, and Sig.  This is what she decided on;

She got herself a Sig 239 two-tone with the DAK trigger and night sights already installed.  Add a pair of Hogue grips (man what a difference they make with this gun) and a couple extra mags and she is all set.  Well, almost.  We are waiting for her carry purse to arrive.  I know off body carry isn't ideal, but I feel it is better than nothing since she won't dress around the gun.  I am also going to change my holster order with Mr. Del Fatti to his holster designed for women, SLP/F so she will have a nice holster for it, man I must be in love to do that after the year plus waiting list I've been on.:)
We took it to the range last weekend and after 232 rounds, 4 mags of gold dots and the rest FMJ, she was looking for more ammo.  I guess I should have brought more.  Happiness is seeing your woman excited with shooting a new gun.  She was even interested in how to clean it. :o  ;D

Rocnerd:

Just a suggestion, but if you and your lady ever have the oppportunity please check out the Crimson Trace Lasergrips for the Sig P239.

The grips feel like the Hogues, with the addtion of the Laser.

Some folks don't care for lasers in general, but my experience with CT Lasergrips has been super.  I am an old fart who's eyes and hand steadiness is going South so I was seaching for  any accuracy help I could get and the CT Lasergrips have provided that, in spades.

I am a believer in practicing from self defense range, which I consider to be 5-7 yards.  If I sense an impending deadly confrontation at a further distance than that I will retreat as fast as my old senior citizen legs will let me.

I am also a believer in that if and when a confrontation occurs, and you have to display a weapon, then you will most probably be looking directly AT the threat, not at trying to acquire a "sight picture".

With the CT Lasergrips you look at the threat, point the Sig in the general direction and you will find a nice red dot, located precisely where the round would impact should you depress the trigger at that moment.  EVEN in bright daylight, at 5-7 yards you will see the red dot.

I applaud those who's age, vision, etc. allows them accuracy with no need for aids such as lasers..  I was there once, but I'm not there now.

I don't know how much your lady shoots her Sig, or how she practices for potential confrontations, but I promise you she will be pretty amazed at the potential increased accuracy the CT Lasergrips will offer.

I've been a firearms owner since 1954.  I've had a concealed carry permit since 1965, and I've owned a pile of pistols/revolvers over the years.  I've NEVER owned a better firearm than the Sig P239....   Not even close.

Your lady, in my estimation, made a super choice.

Best Wishes,

J. Pomeroy

That SIG is a 1st class choice IMO Roc.  Excellent.  Just great too you have a lady wife so enthusiastic re shooting.

I also reckon addition of CT's is a good idea to consider.  I have them on all 3 of my SIG's and on three revo's too.  On my EDC 226, the grips feel even better than std or Hogues - very nice feel indeed.

I only regard CT's as an adjunct - but mine are permanently on via master switch so - whenever I come up for a sighted shot, will see the dot if light not excessive - and so in that way it helps my old eyes enormously.

Ain't love grand?  I know the feeling.   8)

Your lady made a great choice in a pistol.  You are one lucky  man.  (But you already know that.)
