Show us your . . . grips! (56k beware)
« on: December 01, 2005, 05:07:16 PM »
R9sCarry mentioned the idea of showing how he's been using skateboard/grip tape on his Rohrbaugh's stocks in another thread. I thought this was a good idea, and hope he won't mind if I get the ball rolling:

Eric Rohrbaugh told me that he laughed when he saw what I'd done to mine, but that he found that my "grip enhancements" really added to the shootability of the gun.

Let's see what you've done with yours!  :)

Erich,

They are excellent pictures.

If we ever have to put on fresh tape, I hope it comes off OK.

Moreover, I hope alcohol would not harm the carbon fiber grips.  That would be a real bad thing.....real bad.

Here's my first try.  I narrowed the tape a bit and may have to go full width.  I'm having extraordinary problems controlling this pistol to the extent it often won't feed.

This is pretty agressive tape.

Anyone get the pistol checkered in this region?

Looks good, Chuck.

Have you tried my "weak hand thumb against weak side stock and compressed against gun with strong hand" grip? It totally eliminated FTFs for me. Best of luck with it.

Chuck,

Did you also buy the special adhesive they have to go with the tape?

Thanks,

Bill

I need this pistol to function with a one-hand grip not two!  There may not be two hands available.

The tape Eric Wesselman markets is peel and stick.  His main market seems to be complete grip covers but does make these strips for the M1911 which I cut to size.  I've had some on the front strap of a couple of M1911s for well over a year and it stays put.  I put it there to see if I'd like to get my front strap checkered (which seems to be a common thing) but found that it's not needed on these pistols.  Tape left on just to see how long it lasts.

I hope to test fire the R9S this weekend to see if the tape is the solution to one hand firing with my sissy hands.

This pistol weighs 23oz empty and is quite a bit bigger than the R9S.   TruGrip has been on it for 18 months.

Chuck,

I hope you will enjoy the major improvements in controlability that many of us have found when we use the tape.

Finally remembered to take some pics of my grip tape.  Not the best pics, but you get the idea.

Roc - nice pics and nicely done.  Like the idea of two circles at front.

Thanks.  It seems to do the trick.  Before the tape I had to "reset" the gun in my hand after each shot due the the up and to the right twisting the recoil produced.  Not so now.

Hi Guys, Just got my R9er.  Shot today, first without grip enhancment about 20 rounds, then installed a Hogue "Handall Jr" Grip sleeve.  Took a little stretching and trial and error, but by installing it upside down from Hogue instructions, it worked great.  Not only with fore and aft grip areas, but it adds a small finger "knob" on the leading edge.  Really helped with accuracy on multiple shots.  A little practice and I was able to put 7 inside 4 inches at 40 feet, 5 times in arow.

Last try.
R9er with Hogue Grip sleeve Hogue # 18000 for small auto pistols.
I hope this works.
If so, much thanks to everyone.  If not, at least I have learned something today.
Thx, Steve
