Fudster - now I can really appreciate your frustration.   >:(

A lot of factories are just factories.  They can put stuff together, but  are not always  good at trouble shooting or fixing after the fact.  I'm sure I'm not telling you anything new, and of course this is true with many gun factories unfortunately.   Or it may just be that particular day or person who happened to have tried to fix your gun at the time.

That is why I used the word "mechanic", not gunsmith.  There is a difference.  You need someone who really knows 1911's inside and out.  Even though you have a LDA,  you do not have a trigger problem, but a feeding problem.  So a good mechanic can fix it.  That is if the feeding ramp has not been screwed up already or such.

Ask around in your area for a good one. If you are not satisfied, go for a nationally known big name.  You may have a long wait, but it seems that you are not short of guns.

MIke Bay in Tulsa is tops,  Jim Clark - Louisiana, Wilson Combat, AK, Tim Lafrance- CA.
Look in American Handgunner and in the back many are listed that are in the top 100 .

Bottom line - that gun should shoot anything!  Don't settle for less.

Jim Clark and Clark Custom Guns get my vote!

Here's some magic they performed on one of my 1911s:

I would also like to add that the examples I used were just off the top of my head at the moment.
There are easily at least a dozen other well knowns that can be added to the list.  And as Richard has done, hopefully other forum members will agree and/or add to the list.

Good Luck

Even if it as a R45gap it would be fine by me!  I think any gun with the Rohrbaugh name would be awsome.

Where O where is my R45,
Where O where could it be,
I put my deposit down long ago,
and been waiting so patiently...

I talked with Maria yesterday. They are still getting out the door R9s and the R380 is just around the corner. When the R380 is shipping Karl will continue to work on the R45.  Tom

It's fine, I knew it would take time -- I'm just being tempted by a Kahr PM45 as a light weight 45 to carry until the pup's big bro shows up...   ;D

Ducks, trout, rocks and all. (However, I can't speak for the racoon, black bear, and wild pig populations -- they pretty much come and go as they please.)   ;)
