Title: WTB: Rohrbaugh Elite Premium
Post by: BlueC2 on December 04, 2011, 10:52:25 AM
Hi Everyone,

I know this is a long shot but I figured I would give it a try. I would love to get my hands on one of the special Rohrbaugh Elite Premiums and am willing to pay  a reasonable premium for the gun. I have privately contacted one member who I know has one and he was very nice but is not currently not looking to sell. Any leads would be appreciated. I would also be interested in an elite or factory robar edition and would want to source some factory black CF grips to put on it.

Thanks,
Ryan

Thanks for the warm welcome, this is by far the friendliest web forum I have ever joined!

Also thank you for the well wishes regarding the search. I realize that it will likely take quite a while especially since the only place I have looked is with a group of people who really love their pups.

Getting any of the above mentioned guns will be difficult, but finding factory black CF grips adds an additional level of difficulty. Does anyone know why the factory no longer sells CF grips. I know CF is expensive but I dont see why they can't sell them seperatly or just charge more for a gun with them installed.  Anyway, thanks for any help and I'm going to call a few dealers this week and see if I get any leads. I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks,
Ryan

The CF is expensive due to expensive raw materials and expensive manufacturing costs.  They also had problems sometimes with getting the right color (especially with the blue) and getting two panels that matched well-enough to be put on the same gun.  Ultimately it was just too much expense and too much hassle.  Doing them in smaller quantities would increase the price even more.  I think they are just too busy to deal with all the problems when there are other alternatives.

Here is a set of Black CF's for you.  $875 with a R9.  Buy it, put some G10's on it and resell it for the same money.  End up with a set of Black CF's for less than $100 in them.

CWC, Great Idea, thank you for suggesting it. I wrote to the seller and made them an offer for just the grips that would cover buying replacement grips, any reduction in sale price, and a profit. If they are not interested I can proceed with your plan.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan, I believe CZ may make Carbon Fiber grips for the R9 also.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to post an update on my search for one of these special pups. Through searching the forum I was able to find another member who does indeed have an elite premium. He was really nice but loves the gun too much to let it go, and I honestly don't blame him. I was also contacted my a member who has 3 NIB elites and a NIB SPF. He and I talked on the phone for almost an hour about the various things we collect and he is willing to sell one of his elites for a fair price given its NIB condition. Now I just need to decide if I should pull the trigger on the elite or if I should hold out for potentially finding a premium. I am close to going with the elite and sourcing some factory CF grips and just calling it good. Anyway, I am interested to hear your opinions.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan, it sounds like a great opportunity and passing it up may lead to disappointment later. You can always sell the Elite if you find a Premium.

Are you going to be shooting what ever you end up with or will it sit in a safe?  If Shooten buy it, if not wait till you find what you really want.

If it was me and I really wanted one I would call Rohrbaugh and ask what dealers were sent the premium ones and call each of those guys.  Betcha one of them still has one and would sell it.

You could also get the Elite and if a Premium comes along, get it too.  I know that may seem like a stretch, but hey, it would be worth it, since only 16 Premiums were made; in the end, it's your call, of course.   Me...............I'd have to get the Elite, now.......... :)

Ryan, I think Corey has a good idea there and he certainly does know what he is talking about in regards to tracking down collectible Rohrbaughs. If that does not work I would certainly grab an Elite for the right price like Ken suggested. By the way in my previous post I meant to say VZ grips, they have some very nice carbon fibers for the R9.

Thanks everyone,

Ill be calling the factory tomorrow to see if an R9EP is anywhere in the realm of possibility, if not ill go for the elite and put some CF grips on it. I sent the guns america seller mentioned above an email asking to just purchase the grips and said he only wants to sell the entire package. So now I am trying to work with him on the best way to do the deal. Do you guys have any recommendations other than sending him some USPS money orders and hoping for the best?

Ideally I would love to have him bring it to his FFL and pay them with a CC (I could add money to cover the CC fee). I would also do USPS collect on delivery where they post office collects the money orders upon delivery at my FFL, if I dont pay the gun is automatically sent back to him, and obviously if the gun is no as advertised or never materializes I am not out close to a grand.

Thanks,
Ryan

Did you check out the VZ Grips website? They have Carbon Fiber grips that would look great on the elite.

Ryan, neither of the last options are anywhere near normal and most likely will not be considered by the seller.  I've used gunbroker and gunsamerica a lot and have always been more than satisfied.  I agree its a step of faith but for me now with over 50 purchaces, many over a grand,  I would not think twice about it.

Ryan, I would second what Corey said, I have purchases from  Gun Broker, Guns America, Gun Runner Auctions and many from private sellers from a number of forums, with zero issues.
If the seller has a good transaction rating it should not be a problem if he does not don't buy from him.
If your intention is to carry and shoot the gun maybe just purchase a regular two tone and send it to Bob Cogan for some custom work to your taste and have a one of a kind pup.

Bought from those on GunBroker and GunsAmerica, also; never a problem.

I believe this is a Member to member transaction not a GB or GA.

My take from Ryans post was the seller is on Guns America.

Thanks again everyone. The seller is on Guns America but is a new member, non FFL with no feedback. If he had feedback or was an FFL I would be fine doing the deal. He is supposed to call today and we were going to discuss payment/shipment terms that work for both of us. I will keep everyone posted.
Thanks Again!

Update for those interested:

Have decided to pull the trigger on the elite and the R9 on GA with the factory CF grips. Talked with both sellers and I'm going to take a leap of faith with the USPS money orders per everyone's recommendation. I think I will most likely resell the two tone pistol and just keep the factory CF grips to put on the elite. There are no Rohrbaugh dealers around where I live so when an R9 goes on consignment it does not last long.

Thank you for all the help and suggestions. I will post pics of everything when I get it.

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi All,

The seller who has the three elites NIB is letting me choose which serial number. Should I go for the lowest or the most recent, or just get what ever number I like best? They are 36XX, 38XX, and 40XX.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan, probably no difference in any way, choose what makes you happy. If it was the difference between #1298 and #6367 it would be different and as a carry and shoot gun I would go for the latest model.

just my thoughts.

Ryan.  I would say John make's a good choice; however, it's gotta be your decision; you have to be the happy one here.   Good luck!    :)

Good choice on a holster maker.  I have three of his and they are very well made.

Thanks,

I went back and forth between an exotic skin or having Kay do some custom carving. I went for the carving and am really excited to see the results.  What holsters do you have?

Ryan-

Exotic skin Holsters are really neat, but I have one that is almost too nice to use, so it is still in the original bag.

As for Ryan Grizzle Holsters, I have two town and country models - one for a Para Carry and one for the R9.  The other is a pocket model for a P3AT that I have used with an LCP.  He does great work and the T&C's are very comfortable and secure.

Guys,

Wanted to bring this thread back to life. This was actually my first post on the forum almost two years ago. Little did I know at the time that the Elite I bought would turn into a collection of some of the finest R9s available. Thank you to everyone here who has helped me put this collection together. I would still very much like to bring things full circle and track down an Elite Premium I originally set out looking for. If anyone out there has one that they would consider selling please let me make you an offer.

Thanks Again,
Ryan

Another thing to remember about the Elite is that it Originally was listed for $1295.00 and all difference between it and the R9S were purely cosmetic.
