Aluminum Grips are Here!!!!!
« on: November 10, 2007, 02:39:47 AM »
Hey
So I have finaly got some time to make a few proto type Alu. grips. I have yet put the checkering on them but the main profile and pocketing is done.
I have been building jig and fixtures so I can do a short run on some grips. I will be black anodizing the grips then I will cut the checkering, This will really make the grips stand out.
I would like to hear from anyone that may want a set. so I can come up with a price brake on the first run.
I will say they wont be cheap!! There is alot of time and effort to get to this point.  Plus the way the grips are made they are vary close tolorance. Because of this they difficult to manufacture.

I would love any thoughts coments on this thanks

Yes please post a photo.

If the price is not to high I definately, definately want one and maybe  2  sets.  If they are going to look like I hope they do I am in.

If these grips are as good as I think they might be you could maybe make a deal with Rohrbaugh to sell them.  That would mean a lot more orders as the vast majority of R9 owners do not visit the forum.

Ok
Here are a few pics of the flat thin grips. sorry no real pics yet these are from my computer model. The model dose not have the checkering because it vary time intensive to do it. on the model. I also have made the pocket on the right grip larger to make it lighter than the stock grips. They are also thinner .125" thick. They should be a little bit lighter.
I will be posting a 2nd grip that is quite thick but it has a vary nice contoure for gripping.

Wow - That's really good CNC work....excellent!

I'm interested to know about price, and if you'll offer an option for anodizng AFTER checkering for us stealth owners. Depending on this, I may want to buy a set, though I'm still going ahead with my checkering program on the C10 grips, and will write one for the earlier grips as well if there's interest in  the group. IMO You can't ever have too good a grip...or too many! Hmm,  I may do a set in Brazillian Rosewood too. If I do I would hand checker and custom finger-cut these, though.

IDM,

Are you sure that the head of the allen bolt is going to be short enough so as to be flush with the surface of the grip?

Her are a few pics of the countoured grips. RT side.
The grip is a prototype so it is a high grade foam. I would also be making these from alu, or possibly carbon, but with many years of carbon work Im not looking forward to making them.
Its messy work!! and yes the allen heads are thin enough to be flush. Im also looking at button head alens but they also have the small allen socket size. If I find the web thickness below the allen head is to thin I will increse the grip thickness to .15" But I will se after I finish the first set or 2.

What Tracker said!

I've wanted a pair of aluminum grips for my R9 ever since the prototype was unveiled at the 2002 Shot Show. It was adorned with grips made of aircraft aluminum.

If you go to production, I'll be standing in line.
