I'm carrying a Sig p238.
Me pup should arrive any day.

My R9 replaced a North American Arms Guardian .380 (No. 64) as my EDC pocket pistol, which had replaced a Guardian .32, which had replaced a Colt Mustang, which had replaced a Walther PPK, which takes that story back to the 1960's.
Congratulations on your R9! Please let us know how the two of you get along.

For pocket carry my pup replaced my Kahr P380 for most daily carry, but in certain situations the Kahr still sees pocket duty. Belt carry is split between the Kimber Ultra CDP and Kahr PM40 with the pup getting an occasional turn.

My r9 replaced a Micro D.E.! And that replaced a kahr mk9! Went from 9mm to .380 back to 9mm!
Weight also went down each time!

No laughing here, Dino. The P3-AT is a very well functioning pistol and the price is right. You are one ahead of me: The R9 was my first and probably last carry weapon. I just couldn't find anything before that was light and powerful enough to carry concealed.

Thanks Tracker, that P3-AT went bang every time I pulled the trigger and it was very light and small. Might buy another one before long.

My R9 replaces My Nighthawk Talon II Lightweight Bobtail .45 when I cannot carry it due to Clothing issues. It also replaced my S&W 642 Airweight .38 as my desk drawer gun.

My Rohrbaugh initially replaced a Smith Airweight 442. I wore a Para PDA .45 for a while but I still find that my pup is the best compliment to any attire. She goes everywhere with me.

My R9 didn't replace anything. Occasionally I would find myself in an uncomfortable situation. Nothing ever happened, but I decided that I would feel stupid if something did happen and I was not prepared. Visited a gun store and the salesman showed me a R9. Looked at all the other small guns there, went to another store and checked their stuff. Went back and bought the R9. Nothing else even came close. It is my first gun, not counting my Great Granddad's Civil War S&W.

To each his own but in a situation like the Luby's cafeteria in Killeen I would rather have 13 rounds than six. Unfortunately, no one carried anything there. They were all sitting ducks but that was before concealed carry laws.

I don't carry a spare for the pup (but sometimes do for my other carry gun); mostly because my ability (or total lack thereof) to change magazines is so slow that you need a calendar instead of a stopwatch to measure it. If I had enough time to change magazines I might have enough time to run away (hopefully!!!).

I do, in a magazine case stowed in the left (my weak side) back pocket. The case is important in keeping pocket dreck out of the magazine.

LIke Richard, I do as well in a carrier as well.
The primary reason for the extra mag, especially for a BUG is not for the extra ammo, but for Mr Murphy. In case of mag failure of some sort or a double feed, in which you have no choice but to pull the mag.

I just bought an R-9s and am awaiting grip extensions before shooting, as I can not get two fingers on the grip presently. I tried inexpensive, now I'll try the best. I hope I wont be disappointed.

I raced Motocross at Zoar Valley thirty some years ago, but now I go offroading in a highly modified Jeep. I have wheeled on some private land in Gowanda that is close to Zoar. We usually go rock crawling in PA or Virginia, but have been to NC and as far as Utah. I'ts always nice to hear from someone with roots in western NY. The temp was 1 degree here this morning, I bet you don't miss that :)

Testing my memory back to the late 70s for cc? First there was an AMT 380 backup, worked well every time, then there was a walther PPK/S, a colt mustang, a S&W J frame 940, Seecamp of course, R9 now shares time with Seecamp and occasionally a Kimber CDP Ultra II depending on circumstances. There was not a bad gun in the group. PPK/S had to go back once and it was repaired quickly when I first got it.

You mentioned rock crawling as one of your hobbies. That is one of the activities on my "bucket list," and we have some great rock outcroppings here in East Tennessee. I need to find myself a suitable Jeep as a platform, modify its engine and transmission, add a roll cage and lift kit, and get started before I "kick the proverbial bucket." 8)

Ah, I knew I would forget something, those damn 80s, there was a Beretta model 85, 13 shot .380 with walnut grips. What a pleasure that was to fire. Grips were a little large for carry, but there was also two other Berettas, one 25 cal and one 22 cal. I am probably leaving something out. The Berettas were all truly nice pistols.

Man I hated my Beretta 85. Could not stand it. >:( Too heavy for CC and 380 rounds were bad at the time IMO. Bought it right out of college just before the high cap mag went into effect (1994). So after the high cap mag rules expired, got back into shooting and sold the 85 and replaced with a Glock 19. :D Course a 19 is usually too large for CC, so R9 8) joins a S&W 638 w/CT and they share carry duties.

The new pup, when it arrives, will replace a Glock Model 36 and share duty with a Kel-Tec P3AT. The pup will most-likely be the replacement for the Kel-Tec, as well, or until I decide that a Seecamp is necessary.

There's plenty of time. No need to jump in. The Seecamp's will be there. Sometimes harder to get. I hear waiting times for a new .380 from the factory is now 1 1/2 years, however, they are available from individuals. Enjoy the pup when it arrives.

I think that my next Rohrbaugh will be an R-45. I am a big fan of .45 ACP. However, there is a waiting list for that as well. Here I sit waiting! :(

RB. The Rohrbaughs and Seecamps are both quality made pistols. The Seecamp has its own following, so to speak, and the largest caliber it comes in is .380. I like having both.

My Stealth is not a replacement, but rather another option for a pocket gun. My favorite daily carry, up until I picked up my Stealth yesterday, is a S&W 340PD AirLite .357 magnum. While the Stealth is a little heavier than the 340PD, I suspect it will become my favorite carry. :)

My Talo had the ramp front sight, I like the Hi-Viz better, super easy to see in daylight, I haven't tried it in low light yet.

Excellent, there, John. I've been looking at these off and on all day, except for this evening. I can't decide on the 360 or the 340 PD. I looked at that video on the 360 3 times today; still can't decide.

I have read a couple of post by guys who had a 360 and got rid of it for a 340, they said they had the hammer snag on clothing when trying to draw the gun. I have also seen a couple that have had the hammers bobbed to eliminate the snagging issue.

John. That's a good point. The guy in the video brings up another point in that with the 340 PD, you're limited to double acton only; don't know how often one would need single action, probably never, in a defense situation. I'm still trying to decide. I've wanted a S & W .357 revolver for quite some time.

My 340PD with the Crimson Trace Grips. The larger grips helps with recoil. I carry this one often in the pants pockets, especially with my suits.

My R9 has mostly replaced my M&P 340. As others have said, the 340 is lighter, but I think it prints more when carried in a pants pocket. It's still easily concealed though. I think the 340's double action only is very easy to shoot accurately. 5 rounds of .357 in less than a 6" group offhand at 15 yards is pretty repeatable for me if I keep in practice.
Having said that, my R9 is just as accurate and easy to shoot and you get 7 instead of 5, plus a slimmer unit. I like having both and the R9 is now almost always what I carry, but I'll never get rid of my 340 M&P either.

I never had a problem with the hammer snagging on anything with the 360. If I purchase another it would be the 360 not the 340. Hope this helps in your decision.
You may want to see if you dealer has both in stock. I have always found it to be easier to make a decision between two guns if you can hold both.

I'm sure if you say you have never had the hammer snag it is true, but from my prospective if the hammer is not there it never will snag. (Murphy's Law)
There is no time or presence of mind to cock the hammer in an SD situation, so no real need to have a hammer.
If range shooting there would still be no need for the hammer because it is not a bullseye gun and your practice should be as close to the intended use of the gun and that is draw and fire.
With a self defense weapon my thought is always keep it as easy as possible and eliminate any possible problem. There is the possibility the hammer could snag and the possibility some small object or pocket lint could get under the hammer and render the gun useless, neither of these can occur with an inclosed hammer model.
Just my thoughts, but to each his own.

It's decidedly what the tradeoff is; very light weight and 5 rds or very heavy and 8 rds; can carry concealed or can't carry concealed. Maybe I've answered my own concern here. :)

The 340 and 360 should both drop from your consideration if you don't plan to use your choice for self defense. I can't think of any other reason to have one, unless you just want it to sit around to admire. I picked up my 340PD for one purpose, and that's self defense.

As I've said before, I've wanted an S & W .357 revolver for quite some time. I'll still consider the 340 and 360 whether it's carried or not, but most likely will go with the 627. I'll shoot and admire whichever one I get. :)

I just came in from putting about 40 rounds through my 340 and about 150 through my 25 + year old Glock 19, that 30 round mag sure makes you eat up some ammo. ;D ;D
If your plan is basically not to carry I agree skip the ultra light guns for just shooting.
I would go with the 627 or the 327 W/ 5 1/2" bbl. or the 327 V-Comp all are 8 shot.

If you want a J frame snubby to shoot you may want to consider a pre lock 940 also. Being stainless they're quite a bit more comfortable to shoot than the 340. I used to shoot mine a lot to stay comfortable wih my 340.

My son had bruises on his hands this week after shooting his Glock 22. Of course had fired 1,000 rounds. I am glad I am retired. I don't think I could keep up with the young LEO's anymore.
I can get about 25 rounds of .357 through my 340 and then it is to .38's.

One of the things I miss about being retired is that now I have to buy all of my own ammo. I used to love it when they would hand me 300 rounds of ball ammo (45 ACP) for range time. ;D

Yes, I have a Hornady Lock-N-Load system. It saves me money most of the time, my problem lately has been breaking in my Wife's Kimber Ultra Raptor. Kimber made a big deal about running factory full powered loads through it for break in. Took 500 rounds before they concidered it reliable enough to carry.

Will Pick up my new R9S in two days.
It will replace an LCP for work and light clothes days, and a PPS for W/E and winter or heavy weather days. Bought the R9 so I do not have to pic a different CCW depending on the weather or dress for the day. R9 will be in a Crossbreed MiniTuck or Nemisis daily.
Keeping the LCP for days when going into no carry zones. Leave it in the car, locked in a handgun storage box. I would HATE to lose ther R9, but hate it less to lose to LCP to bad guys or thieves.

What if an armed bad guy, as totally unlikely as it sounds ;), decides to disregard the no-carry zone rule, and sticks a gun in your face or even worse, a family member's face, during a robbery? What if that McDonalds shooting a few years back happened in a no-carry zone, and all those people started to get shot?

I know what you mean.
For twenty years I carried concealed illegally before the right to carry was passed in Texas. I felt very strong about my right to protect myself.
Now that I have my CCW, I obey all the CCW laws completely, in fear of losing my right to carry.

You are a better man than I. I put five +P rounds through my S&W 337 (10.5 ounces) and had a sprained wrist for a week.
It's gone and the R9 now rides in its place...

I do have the large CT grips on it and it absorbs a lot of the recoil. I do not have any problems shooting .38's through it.
I don't carry my R9 much because it is such of work of art I don't want to scar it. If I have to use it I would be sick to have it sitting in evidence for 2 years before I could get it back.
I would rather them have a $400 pistol. ;D

New guy from MI. Recently purchased my 1rst R9 (R4866) it's a stealth model w/sights. I got the R9 to support my 2 S&W 340pds and my Kahr PM40 for concealed carry. I hope we get big enough for Crimson Trace to take notice but that is most likely for another site. So far I have about 300 rnds. thourgh it and have not taken it completly apart or replaced the spring.So far I'm enjoying the R9 and the site.I bought the 2nd one I ever seen like a pup it was too cute to let lay :)

Welcome to the forum JR15ID8! Sounds like it's about time for field strip cleaning and spring replacement. It's not that hard and does not take that long, especially if you use some of the tips here on the forum, like the 'faq" section.
If you have not done so, get yourself a takedown tool from yankee on the Classifieds.

At 300 round you definitely want to replace the spring, although it may keep working your causing the gun to take an unnecessary pounding from a weakened recoil spring.

Ruger LCP. I too miss the CT laser. The LCP ate all ammo with no problem. I'm comfortable that my new R9S Covert will be reliable and certainly has more panache.

Man, you have enough land that there are hunters on it that you might run into? You country boys are in a different world than me. My feeling of being at ease, is being on a lonely subway platform and having 18 ounces of Rohrbaugh dynamite in my back pocket in Jim Powell's holster. Yep! During deer season I hear gunfire and over a year ago spent about a day reposting posted signs all through the woods. Since then, gun fire has nearly stopped. It's the nearly part I'm concerned with.

Why would you have to post signs to keep people off of private property? it's not like you could confuse it for a public park.

For the same reason they build gated communities and have apartment buildings that you need to be buzzed in to enter the building.
Some people do not care where they go or who owns it.

It's something that has to be done. If there are no signs, folks think they can hunt there; so, to protect yourself and the land, thus, the signs.

Fisherman are just as bad if not worse.
When I used to lease a fenced in 150 acre ranch with a 9 acre private lake on it, I had to chase off fisherman weekly. They all seem to have this attitude, that just because there was lake there and even though they had to cross a barbed wire fence, they still had the right to fish there. My house was nearby, and they NEVER came by and asked for permission.
I just don't get it.

My R9s replaced a Kel-tekPF9. I have only owned high quality firearms, but decided the KT was an attractive size. I had way to many issues with it to trust it.I searched for a "quality" piece in a "real" calibur. the R-9 was introduced by my toy store owner when he said "if you have the money, this is what you seek".
I carry a Kimber Ultra CDP 2 which is extremely reliable despite the B.S. that a 3 inch 1911 cant be as reliable as a full size. Mine is and I own 3, 4 and several 5 inch models. It is as good or better than the rest. (including a Les Baer)
Back to the PUP. The r-9 is not plastic, not cheap,but well worth it.
When I started off, it was unreliable and I was not pleased. I am happy to say that the patience paid off. I was told by Karl to use Silver tips, but mine hates them. I tried 124 Gold Dot std. and it is fantastic. It also loves Golden Sabers, but I prefer the GD's based on research. To each his own.
I have approximately 650 rounds of Gold Dots with 0 failures, 75 Golden's with 0 failures and 100 rounds of various ammo that it didn't like with many failures.
Some say "why pay 1k plus for a finicky POS. You simply
can't find a better small and I mean small "real" calibur and "quality" made pistola. Yes it only likes high end ammo. So what??? it is not a target pistol. It eats springs like an obease man at a buffet, so what???? if you value your life, comfort and can pay 1k plus for a serious tool, why piss and moan about a 5 dollar spring??? Who cares.
Some say for that money I can own 3X guns. Yes you can, you can buy a Zip car too. It isn't a Rolls Royce, but I guess if it works, enjoy!
You can buy 4 Kel teks for 1 Pup. I find that I would carry atleast 3, because when my ass is on the line and one breaks, I have another and when it breaks, I have another. I find value in doing something right the first time and the KT was a lapse in judgement. Some of you have had good luck with KT, I wish you well and only time will tell.
I think the only competition for this is a J Frame or an LCR. I have Kars, LCP's an LCR, J frames, and the R-9 is in my pocket all of the time. Sometimes it is a back up to my Kimber and sometimes it is all I have.
So this long winded answer is for those posts here and elswere that knock this over priced pos. Oh, I am waiting for a stealth to sit in the safe. I intend to have an extra so if by chance the company should be sold, or go out of business, I will have an extra...Just In Case.
Please all of you pup haters, dont buy this garbage gun, I will take it off your hands.

But they sit in the safe now, I trust my life to my R9 as well.
It's all about precision. And it performs.

I could have written eye-spy's post almost word for word. R9 replaced KT PF9 which I hated and distrusted. I carry the Kimber CDP Ultra II when weather/clothing permit but w/R9 as backup; the R9 alone when Kimber too obvious, but with an extra mag and a Beretta Bobcat backup.
I too had feeding and FFfire problems until I went to Gold Dots and learned to clean/lubricate aggressively (Ed Brown gun oil on slide rails, etc.). Spring is changed whenever it appears short or at 100 rounds. Absolutely NO PROBLEMS since then. Freehand accuracy at 7-10 yards is amazing.
I also agree about the Kimber...mine is as smooth and reliable as my 5" WCB/CQB and my 5" Ed Brown SP, with every bit as smooth and light a trigger pull.

I traded an ASP 9mm with original holsters (3) plus spare mag pouch for my Robar edition. It was the best trade I have ever made in my life. I could no longer focus on the "guttersnipe" sight on the ASP and never was that accurate with it. I sent a used S&W 39-2 to ASP in the early '80's for the conversion. I think all told it was about $675.00
The R9 will never be sold or traded! Just carried almost everyday.
