Where to buy?
« on: July 21, 2012, 02:06:17 PM »
Long time member here but first post.  I'm in Illinoika so I can't CCW...yet.  But some of the shi*t going down of late has me thinking.  And one of the thoughts is a pocket carry 9mm.  I'm very experienced with guns and have read a little about the Rohrbaugh.  Can someone advice me as to which model of Rohrbaugh is the most desireable?  Also, can I order direct of do I need to have my LGS/FFL order one for me?  Thanks.

Al:

Get in touch with Tom Watson ("theirishguard"), who is a member and advertising supporter of this Forum. He can get you the model you want and have it shipped to your local FFL.

For some reason I was waiting for IL to pass the carry law before buying an R9, but I think we'll get carry eventually - maybe Aug 8th?

I would like the Tribute but from what I've been seeing they're $200 to $500 more expensive than the Standard.

I may just get the standard...

Sent Irish Guard Firearms my deposit today.  I'm still waffling on whether to get a standard or a Stealth.  My only concern is the nitride finish wearing off from holster wear.  You certainly can't "buff it out".   :-[

Al:

When you get that beauty, keep a coat of Renaissance Wax on it. There are a number of fans of that product on the Forum. I use it on all of my guns, and it has protected the anodized finish of my R9 for the past 8+ years. And besides, anything good enough for the NRA Museum must be good.

Renaissance Wax is good, another wax that is good is Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Plus  I called and talked to a product specialist and he told me that Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Plus wax was Ph neutral and had no abrasives in it whatsoever.

It provides a very hydrophobic finish on my Glocks.

Can any gun dealer contact Rohrbaugh and order a gun, or does Carl have Rohrbaugh dealers and he only ships to his dealers?

I live in a major city in a southern state. Their is
one Rohrbaugh dealer in my state. I didn't want
to drive for an hour to buy a PUP so I went to my
favorite local dealer in the city where I live (which
is a huge local Sporting Goods Store) and asked them
to try and order it for me from Rohrbaugh. I brought
to them the Rohrbaugh info I got from Maria. They
went through all of the motions and were unsuccessful
in getting me a PUP. I had to order it from the only
Rohrbaugh retailer in the state an drive for
over an hour to pick it up. That pisses me off. I
get NO service and pay effin' RETAIL.

Don't know why my local Sporting Goods Store
was turned down. I suspect Rohrbaugh does this
to protect loyal dealers and keep the price high
through lack of availability and competition.

I went to Rohrbaugh's site to find a dealer.

No dealer in Illinois
No dealer in Indiana
No dealer in Wisconsin

I hope I can just go to a  LGD and have them order one from Rohrbaugh...

Can't believe they would not allow G.A.T. Guns to become a dealer if G.A.T asked to be one.  The closest ones to IL I see are in MI or MO.   :(  I'm getting mine from The Irish Guard Firearms and he will ship to my FFL.  Much cheaper than driving 10-12 hours and paying who knows what for the transfer.   ???

Tom, at Irish Gaurd has such a great reputation, if you don't have a local R9 dealer, buy from Tom and he can take care of any of your service needs.

Looks like you made a good move BigAl. :)
