 Thats all great news! Thanks for telling us Shelb. I'm very excited to see it in the movie. Alot of guns have been bought because of their roles in movies. I still remember Dirty Harry's 44magnum line "this is a 44magnum, the most powerfull handgun in the world and would blow a mans head clean off, so you might ask yourself a question. do i feel lucky? well, do ya punk?   "
 Anyone know what model that gun was? I'm thinking it was an early Smith model 29....

It was a Model 29 with a 6" barrel.

In one of the movies he also had a couple of .44 Magnum AutoMags.

 Yep, a smith 29. I just went on google to search. On a forum I found, they said it was a 6 1/2" barrel. Then another guy says it was a 6". Being a Clint Eastwood fan, I'd like to add the correct model to my gun collection. Bet they are high dollar collectibles though if one wants one produced around the era of the movie.
 Oh well, enough here about it. I may inquire in the other guns section of this forum.

Go ask at www.smith-wessonforum.com.  They will know.  I have never heard of a 6.5 inch barrel, but I am not an expert on such things.

You can talk about it here -- so long as you don't offend the moderator!

 I hope I never do offend the moderator.. I've heard he can open up a big can of woop --s if he needs to.  
 I've never heard of a 6.5" either. Always thought they were either 6" or 7". I will investigate....

It's a 6-inch barrel.  I recently did a holster for one.

With all due respect, when the Model 29s first came out, and at the time of the first Dirty Harry movie, it was a 6 1/2 inch barrel. My Dad had one and so did I. S&W went to the 6 inch barrel for the 29 later down the road. I traded mine for a Browning BLR years ago but one of my brothers still has the one that belonged to my Dad. Both guns came with fitted wooden presentation cases.

Shooterjb -- that doesn't really surprise me.  One thing I have learned about S&Ws -- there are lots of interesting varations.  Thanks for setting us straight!

 Yes, thanks ShooterJB! I also learned it last night when I found a commerative 29 on an auction. They said like the first 29s released, it was 6 1/2 inch.
 Also, thats a nice holster above.

Yep, thanks, Shooterjb for the info.    Let me rephrase and say the gun I made the holster for above had a 6" barrel.


Update:  Saw one at a gun show today that had a 6 1/2" barrel.
