Title: HS2000
Post by: AmmoToad on April 08, 2011, 11:02:37 PM
Anybody else have one of these?  I bought this HS2000 at the Base Exchange in Alaska in 2000.  It was new on the market but getting great reviews.  I got mine for $169.  I had another on layaway when the guy told me they were coming out with a .40  I cancelled the layaway on what would have been the second 9mm and waited on the .40  Eventually the .40 came in…but can anyone guess or tell what had happened?  Don’t look it up, ya gotta take a guess.   :)  The second picture gives a pretty good clue.   This gun shoots like a champ and has never once had a failure of any kind.

Looks like a XD.  Both made in Croatia, prob by the same woman.

CWC, indeed she is....by the time the .40 hit the shelf, Springfield had bought the company and stamped their name on it...with that name came ~$300 in price increase.  This one came with two ten round magazines so I recently purchased two XD9, 16 round mags and they work perfectly.  Funny how the name Springfield resulted in such a price increase...and look how successful this line has been.  I also have a XD45 and like it very much as well.

I would guess that no one else on this forum has one of these beauties.

I would consider purchasing one for $169 just for a 9mm knock around gun, but not for $469.

When I moved to Alaska, I traveled through Canada and could not take my handguns.  I bought it because it was cheap and had great reviews.  I've never seen or heard of another one, although some have to be out there.  Springfield bought them out and started calling them the XD.  I think the XDs are in the $550 or more range now.

I would even buy one for that price of $169.  That is an amazing price back even in the day of 2000.

Wonder how the parts interchange; at $169, who cares.

Exactly right.  I would have loved to know about the HS2000 in 2000.

I believe the parts are an exact replacement.  The gun design stayed the same, Springfield simply stamped their name on them.

There is one small difference, at least on the first ones - the grip safeties were just a thin 1/8- 3/16 piece of metal and were very uncomfortable.
That is why I did not buy one when they first came out.

I can't remember If if HS changed the safety or Springfield.

I was P.O.'d at first when Springfield bought them and had that huge price increase.
But when I first saw that improved grip safety, and different models I knew better things would be coming.
