I am wondering, what is the corrrect pronunciation of Rohrbaugh?

Is it Ro-Bar, or Ror-bo, or Ror-bow???

Phonetic spellings are not my forte.  Its: Roar-baw.

Like a lion's roar...

Although the German pronunciation is "ror-bow" as in front end of a ship.  But then, neither Karl nor Eric speaks with a German accent (NY maybe, but not German).

I've been calling it ''Row-bow'' now for so long .. doubt I could change! :)

(thats ''bow'' as in genuflecting as against archery!)

I am going by how Eric pronounces his own name -- and its a NY accent, not a German one! :)

Now this is a bit OT, but my late father, a P.R. man and stickler for proper grammar, informed me that the correct pronunciation of the work "forte" is FORT, but that the vast majority of the public pronounces it as "for-tay", as I still do, just to avoid the inevitable disagreement! (Try it out on someone the next time you use the word and check out the look on their face- like you are a bit of a dimwit).
My latest Funk & Wagnall's now accepts the common pronounciation as well.

Now that I think about this ,  I bet Gator's  *ROAR- BAW* comes the closest to being correct.

Just from the spelling, I always assumed it was pronounced "Roar-baah" (as in the sound a lamb makes). I believe this is the way I've heard Eric pronounce it as well.
How in the world could you get "bo", "bar", or "ball" from the spelling "baugh"?

" ....   pronounced "Roar-baah" (as in the sound a lamb makes)."  / Harrydog

I can't say that either.   Those folks "up north " have problems with words and spelling, as we/ I do.

I was working in Worchester, MA. and was having a hell of a time pronouncing "Wor-chester",   I was told by a few that lived there, it was " Wooster ",    like "Rooster" but with a "W".
:)
You should have heard the way they said the word, "DRAWING",   it was "DRAW- RING"!!

Hi RJ,

When I was in Springfield Mass. at S&W I asked why they didn't have the New England accent there and was told that the accent only starts east of Worchester which is about the middle of the state. It seemed strange to me.

 I couldn't stand it any longer,  I got it from the "horses mouth",  well, not a horse, but Eric.

" The pronunciation for our name?..........Roar...(like a lion).......Baw.....(like in saw) ............roar baw. "    ERIC

~~~~~~~~~~
It is ROAR - BAW,   just like Gator said !
