The video at the bottom of this link should increase your pulse rate a bit. It certainly did mine.   8)

Thanks Richard, I enjoyed that info and video!

I remember Bill Cosby's skit where he said " wait till the kids in the Chevys get a load of these piiiiiiipes! "

That was an interesting vignet how he had one and took it back.

Thanks again

Just thought of a Cobra/Carroll Shelby story you all might find interesting.
In the mid-eighties I think it was, a guy walked into the boat dealership I was running to buy some special wax that was hard to find.  After talking a while it turned out he was the caretaker of Carroll Shelby's personal Auto collection.

He told me that there was a warehouse/barn in Mckinney, TX with one model of every car that Carroll Shelby made and/or had his name on it.
And his job was to start the cars up and run them once a month and drive them so often.  There were so many cars that it was a full time job for him.

Talk about the ultimate Dream Job!

I have since heard that the warehouse site has moved.  If that is true or not I do not know.

I am from McKinney and still have a lot of ties there. That is probably true because I know Shelby owned some property just north of town but can't confirm the presence of those cars.

The guy told me he did not "drive them around".  Just drove the cars 1/10- 1/4 mi  to keep the tires in shape and keep shift the grease and such.
Since the cars are obviously collectibles, they did not want to put miles on them, but did not want them to rot either.

Back in '76 in Denton, TX? That was me in that Cobra. I took off from Scottsdale, shifted into second gear, New Mexico whipped by when I was in third gear and I ended up next to you in Texas. Small world.

Man, I believe it!

I thought I knew and saw it all until that thing took off.  It was like a mini- funny car.

Couldn't resist myself as it was, in fact, 1976 when I was in Arizona with the Cobra.

Man I could use a rush right now, in the driver's seat of a Cobra!

1976 was a long time ago. Therefore, is my recollection of having driven the Cobra credibile, or is it a case of applying the obvious to faded memory?

Correct answer is "who cares?" Two things I distinctly recall is that Shelby Cobra had the heaviest clutch I had ever experienced and acceleration was measured in gforce.

Having such a heavy clutch I would assume you were driving a big block?

Must have to handle so many horses.

Ahhhh , gforce - the RUSH!

If, by "big block", you mean the 427 engine (vs. 289), the answer is Yes.
