WTB A R9 But Found This Bad Review
« on: March 11, 2008, 12:53:18 AM »
I own a Kel-tec .380 and I'm looking to upgrade to a 9mm.
I attended the West Palm Beach gun show this past weekend and a dealer there told me the Rohrbaugh is the way to go if you can afford it.
No one at the show had one so I Googled the gun when I got home.
This was the first link I read & I found it very dissapointing.
http://www.kahr.com/PA-1B/review_gtc_0804.html

I like the size and the weight of the Rohrbaugh but now I'm a bit gun shy.  :D

Some feed back would be helpful thanks.

hoserack:

Welcome to the Forum!

As for that August 2004 so-called "review" in Gun Tests, it was discussed at some length around here when it first appeared:

http://www.rohrbaughforum.com/YaBB.cgi?board=R9S;action=display;num=1102130918

I took delivery of my R9 in May 2004. Its serial number is 132 with no "R" prefix. It has never malfunctioned and is in my pocket now. In this "reviewer's" opinion, the R9 is the finest pocket pistol yet produced. If you purchase one, I trust that you will be as satisfied with it as I have been with mine for the past four years.

[Amended, with apologies, to correct the link.]

I purchased mine in January, and have around 350 rounds through it with no problems. To me it's fun to shoot, but as it's the only pistol I have ever shot, I probably just don't know any better.

I think this link will help.

Hi, I am a new member, and am in the market for my ideal pocket pistol.

This thread was particularly important to me as my research first lead me to the Gun-Tests article linked from Kahr's site. Although I picked up on some inaccuracies myself (such as polymer grips), Rohrbaugh's Rebuttal included the facts I needed to make a fair assessment in comparing the Kahr PM9 and the Rohrbaugh R9S. Thanks RickP for that link!!

As a prospective customer of either Kahr or Rohrbaugh at this point, I've got to say that this error ridden article posted on Kahr's website, balanced by Rohrbaugh's factual rebuttal on this forum has convinced me which company I would rather do business with.

OK, so I want to buy the R9.
Where is the best place to buy?
Do I need to order extra springs?
I've never owned a gun that the springs wore out.  ???
Do I need to buy a particular ammo for the gun?
My Glock 27 eats anything, even dirt.  :D

hoserack:

You might check with Tom ("theirishguard") through this Forum:

tomswatson@sbcglobal.net

Tom is a sponsor of this Forum (his revolving banner is at the top of the opening page) and a licensed firearms dealer in the Dallas area who could ship an R9 to your local FFL. You could also call the factory directly and arrange for them to ship the model of you choice to your dealer.

I would also order three or four spare recoil springs just to have them on hand for the long term.

As for ammunition, Chris' excellent FAQ site has the results of a number of tests which you might want to review:

http://www.acbsystems.com/boards/rohrbaugh/

Best of luck to you.

Stealth, what does stealth mean?  ???

Just to let you know, the best source for pup info is the link that Richard gave you above, and the search function of this board.. ;)
I know of people checking out the pup,and reread every post on here.. ;D

Every pup is considered a R9..In the very beginning the s was marked for a sighted model, and simply R9 for non-sight model.

A stealth is the all "black" model..

When the Rohrbaugh 9mm pistol was first introduced, "R9s" was used to signify those with sights, while those without sights were designated "R9". Only a limited number of Rohrbaughs were manufactured without sights. Subject to correction, I believe that all currently produced slides have sights, with the pistols carrying the "R9" designation due to regulatory considerations.

The "Stealth" models have slides coated in Diamond Black (DLC).
