9x23 is a great caliber - probably the best choice going for competition guns, certainly a better choice than 357 sig in any platform which can handle a cartridge w. the 9x23's OAL.

But, it didn't really catch on.

I recall when the 9x23mm Winchester cartridge was unveiled around 1996 or so. I've often wondered why it has not received the acceptance it would appear to deserve.

Aglifter -  The OP was talking R9 size, not  R45 size.

Even at the R45 size you may be correct.  It may be doable, but assure you it would be challenging.

Thanks to everyone who posted a "welcome".  Class.

Back in the 70's Jeff Cooper said at Gunsite that the only calibers that should be considered are those available in the smallest general store in the smallest town.
pistol   .22 , 9mm , .38 / 357 , .45
rifle      .22 , 30 30 , 308 , 30-06   ( he would probably add .223 )
If you can't feed your gun all you have is a very expensive missile that has to be thrown to be effective

Sound wisdom.

I'm sure he would add 40 cal to mix as well.
