Title: 1/16 screw driver hex key
Post by: kwesi on September 20, 2008, 03:09:19 PM
I've read all the posts about the need to purchase a "quality" hex key but no mention of recommended brand names or places to purchase one.  I went to Sears and they did not carry any.

Cany anyone recommend some?  I've never removed the grips and would like to clean underneath.

Thx...Michael

The recommendation to buy only good quality hex wrenches is real important because those screws can be tight.  I think Rohrbaugh puts thread lock compound on the little buggers.  So the discount tool places are out.

I was lucky to buy a few 1/16" hex wrenches from Sears as they were closing them out.  Had to pay mail order charges, etc.  That was two years ago...

I haven't found anyone who sells individual hex wrenches any more.  But Midway and Brownells both catalog Bondhaus hex wrench sets at reasonable prices (+ shipping).  Both outfits are topnotch and trustworthy.  If you don't have their catalogs, you can purchase on-line.  http://www.brownells.com & http://www.midwayusa.com

Hope this helps you,
Steve S.

Thx Steve! Do the Bondhaus hex keys have a screw driver handle as Richard posted on his pics?  I think that style grip is important.

No, the ones I usually buy are individual "L" shaped keys.  Brownells sells individual Bondhus 1/16" keys for less than $1.50 each.  I haven't found the t-handle type Richard showed in his pictures, but for as tiny a size as 1/16", I wouldn't expect it to last too long.  So I like the "bent nails".
BTW:  Don't try the ball-end wrenches.  They don't have enough area to work on really tight screws.

Title: Bondhus Balldriver Hex Set
Post by: kwesi on October 15, 2008, 06:17:52 PM
While visiting my dad I stopped in the local hardware store with a reputation of having those hard to find items. I asked for a quality 1/16" balldriver hex wrench. The owner showed me the display and said he only carried Elkaid brand.

Then out jumped the Bondhus Balldriver 7 pc hex tool set from 5/32 down to 050.  These had been there so long that the plastic case was yellow! They were so old that even the price had faded.

Best of all they were $6.95 + tax!

Thanks to Richard, Steve and everyone that posted on the correct tool!

Go to any radio controlled hobby shop.  The better drivers are very durable and can be had for less than $10 and you can hold them and check them out to see what works for you.  Most areas have quite a few RC hobby shops.

Another option is the "Wiha" brand.  Just ordered one through Amazon, though dealer is "tech-tools" or something similar.  Waiting for it in the mail.  Will let you all know the outcome.

Coming late to the party, as usual.
I like Wiha tools. How about $4.04
for the Black Handled Hex Wrench
and then 48₡, 38₡ , 46₡ , 38₡. Thats
right, less than 50 cents a wrench.
These are high quality wrenches to.
Maybe John could buy a ton of these
and sell them with the o-rings.
Theirs a price break on a ton.
Shipping was $8.98 don't you
love it when shipping cost
exceeds the item cost.
