Title: Laugo Arms
Post by: tracker on January 26, 2020, 06:59:03 PM
Here is one new pistol from SHOT that has a lot of unique features including an alien price:

Gas Piston, low bore axis, fixed barrel.  Sounds like the H&K P7, but with a higher capacity and the ability to add a optic.

Nice looking gun, would like to shoot one and get some reviews from actual purchasers before further consideration.

I would also be concerned about warranty work and service with a new gun from Czechoslovakia.

We've had such outstanding performance with everything that we have come across from there I would not think it much of an issue.  Between herself and I we must have close to 20+ CZ firearms.  They do know how to make a quality firearm.  Plus the importer will not promote/carry them long if a $5K pistol has quality issues.

That being said errrrr, written, I have heard the new Colt Pythons had quality and performance issues at range day during the SHOT show.  (WTF is wrong with the folks at Colt these days???)

Finally got to handle one of the FK BRNO Field Pistols last week.  That is another fine piece of Czech craftsmanship.  I would like to try one out on the range, but really have no desire to own one.

The quality of Czechoslovakian guns is not an issue. As with any new firearm there will be be warranty work. I would like to see their CONUS network of repair facilities before I dipped my toe into this one, as good as it looks. The perfect gun hasn't been built yet, especially in its beginning.

I talked to the Importer and any warranty work or parts will be done at their shop in PA.

There are only about 500 of these guns out in the European market now.  The 500 in this series are in production now and all or most of the parts are on hand.  They are just awaiting final assembly and accessories.  Importation paperwork is complete and they are not expecting any troubles clearing our border.

They expect to be sold out by the end of this week.

Reminds me of the Russian PL-15 and the Arsenal Strike One.

It does have a similar look to those two but appears to be more refined and upscale, especially in price. Maybe it will be worth the money; who knows yet?

Well tracker, I see the importer finally sold the 500 gun run out in the last week.

I ordered one, I hope to see it in the next month or so.

It looks like a rather seriously engineered pistol. I'm liking what I see here.

It is certainly a unique design and has received a lot of good press.

I exchanged emails with Larry Vickers who does a lot of down to earth type  reviews and videos and he was very impressed and was definitely going to buy one.  Besides the  design he thought the workmanship and machining was as good as he has ever seen in a firearm.

One thing that really impressed him was the removable top straps with different sites and optics.  He was shooting one Alien with the optic for group.  They took the top strap and optic off and told him to pick one of the other Aliens on the table.  He did and they put the optic and top strap on a different pistol and he shot for group again and the POA was less than an inch different.  The quality from gun to gun was amazing to him.

Looking forward to shooting it.

If you guys get a chance take a look at the German Geiger GRP Roller Delayed Blowback Pistol and post your thoughts.

Post by: MRC on April 02, 2020, 09:46:20 AM
I know nothing about them.  In fact, I have never actually known how the roller blowback system works until now.

I would like to see a review with some test firings and I did not find any.

Here is a really neat video showing how the Korth pistol works with a similar system.

Good video on the Korth.  Gun Jesus does a good job.

I see that gun was used and sold for $5700+.  I can't find any on line for sale to get a price.  If you read the Rock Island description I see that two springs and several buffers are included for different ammo.  That was/is the problem with the HK rifles that are roller delayed blowback,  they were ammo sensitive.

Not much out there about the Geiger.  This is the best info I found.

Again looks a lot like a 1911 lower end with a redesigned locking/recoil system.  It really resembles the Korth a lot.  The biggest difference is the takedown system.

I got and Email from Lancer systems today and I guess that the BATF has finally caught up enough to assign an Examiner for the importation of the Aliens.  They posted a video on facebook of the guns all sitting in a group after final QC and waiting to be shipped back in June.  They act like the ATF process does not take very long once they get started.

Supposedly the ATF suspended a lot of functions because of the Covid Crisis.

Looking at this thread again and the photograph of the pistol, I seem to remember something back when Karl & I were in business and at one of the S.H.O.T. Shows in Las Vegas. They had the prototype of this pistol out there I would say somewhere around the 2010 to 2012 timeframe. I guess they finally completed all of their R&D on it and now she's ready. Good for them. It was nicely made.

They have been out in Europe for several years.

The Designer had to find a backer to produce them.  He is the same guy who designed the Scorpion while at CZ.  They are playing a marketing game by just making a certain number of pistols at a time and selling them all out while getting them made.  I only think they made 500 for Europe and now 500 for the U.S.  I do not know if they will get into steady production or keep playing games.

The European releases got great reviews.

The Invasion Will Not Be Stopped!

Greetings Fellow Abductees!

While this update is certainly not what we anticipated, it does bring some very good news.

Back on August 27, Lancer Systems was notified by a Legal Instruments Examiner at the ATF Imports Branch that our import permit application could not be approved.

What???

Due to an ATF processing error that occurred when the Laugo Alien was approved as suitable for import on January 10, 2020, the ATF recorded the model name of the pistol as Alien 500, rather than Alien. Because we submitted all of our documents with the actual model name of the firearm, Alien, we were instructed to withdraw our import permit application.

See something wrong with this picture???

After an epic tirade and a slew of expletives that would make the devil blush, we got to work on fixing things. Long story short, here is the response we received from FTISB on September 10:
"Your current inquiry included statements from Laugo Arms in the Czech Republic that the subject pistol is in fact a Laugo Arms model Alien as delineated on the ATF Form 6, and not an Alien 500. This correspondence is to clarify the submitted pistol's model as "Alien" which was manufactured by Laugo Arms in the Czech Republic."

Can we just wrap this up now???

Within minutes of receiving this communication from the ATF, Lancer Systems submitted a new import permit application. We have also initiated firm actions designed to expedite the processing of this application. While we can't provide a specific date, please be assured that we are on top of this every single day and we'll let you know as soon as we receive the approved permit.

As always, congratulations and thank you for your continued patience! We're looking forward to letting you know when your Alien will be landing in the U.S.! It won't be long now!

In the meantime, stay safe, stay healthy and best regards,

The Team at Lancer Systems

The ATF heard that the administration is against all illegal aliens so they put a stop on this beauty.  ;) Maybe they could have named it something a bit more friendly. like Amigo.

Maybe.

It kinda sounds like the Importer screwed up the initial paperwork to me.  I talked to them in February and was assured that all the import stuff had been cleared and it was just a matter of building the guns and shipping.

Please stay tuned as we'll be contacting you in the very near future, both to provide additional details on when we can expect the Aliens to land in the U.S., and to start planning and preparing for first contact...

I put down $2500.

Here is an interesting video with subtitles that a guy from Belgium sent me.  He is on the Auto Mag Forum and I questioned him if he had seen any in Europe.  He had not but he did send me this.

It is a little long but he takes it completely down and shows how it is made, interesting.

Good news, the Aliens are being shipped today or yesterday from Europe and should hit the U.S. shore on the 14th.

I hate shipping guns during the Christmas rush and it always seems like I hit it.  I think I will wait until after the 1st, at least until after Christmas.

The Aliens finally got to the Importer's shop yesterday.

I guess they started shipping to customers today.  They are contacting all the customers to get billing addresses and FFL info now,  I have not heard from them yet.  They said they took a lot of reservations at the SHOT Show and I was several weeks after that.

I hope it is worth the wait.

I think that it will be worth the wait if they come close to delivering what they promise. With a limited number of 500 the resale value could be substantial.

The only one that I have seen for sale was a NIB European Model which was not as nice a package as these and it brought $8600 on GB about a year ago.

It'll be interesting to see if the no-reserve-low-starting price guy gets a decent price.

Pretty sure if the other one sells, the seller is covered.

Anybody worried that only a small number of these will ever make it over here due to potential changes by the incoming administration?

There has been about 10 of these guns on GB so far and the importer does not answer the phone and will not return emails.

I sent them my Dealer info and Credit Card info on Jan 1st.  Two guys over at S&W have received theirs and were posting about it so I got in touch with them.  They both had trouble also and the one guy sent me the Sales Manager's email.  He had to go through him to get his shipped.

Anyway I emailed the Sales Manager last night and I received an email back within 15 minutes telling me it will ship the next day.  I told him to ship it Monday instead and he apologized and said it will go out.

They have had the guns for a month now, what would take this long?

The shipping got held up by a blizzard here so I picked up the Alien yesterday.  It is a very nice pistol and comes in a quality Pelican type hard case.  It came with three magazines and I purchased two more.  It also came with tools, cleaning materials and oil, both red dot and fiber optic sites, and a competition type holster.

It holds 17+1 of 9mm.  I was worried about the trigger but it is way better than I had thought.

Larry Vickers can tell you more about it better than I can.

I put Vicker's video up because he explains the pistol design and features the best.

One thing I noticed is he did not show himself shooting any targets which is odd for a Vicker's video.

It appears that the MSRP went up about 20 percent, if I recall correctly.

They started out at $5K but jumped the price last spring to about $6K.

One thing that they did was announce when new shipments were coming into the United States to all the first time purchasers ahead of the shipment.  I ended up buying  5 of them and kept one full kit and sold the other four on GB at three different times.  I ended up clearing $10,700.00 on the 4 pistols so I'm a big Alien fan.

The big rush to buy is now over it as there are plenty for sale at MSRP.

They really are a very good pistol.

They are the fastest and flatest shooting pistol made.  Combine that with an extremely good trigger and bullseye accuracy, you get a winner.

I see that Laugo Arms USA is taking orders now for their new Alien-Creator.

MSRP is $7K for the initial Special Edition run of 500 with previous Alien owners getting a $500 discount.

The "guts" of the gun are the same.  The grip angle is different and is much like a 1911 instead of a Glock.  The grip panels are interchangeable to suit the shooter's hand.  The top strap is vented to aid barrel cooling and the magazine base plates have been changed to make them better fit existing shooting belt magazine carriers.
