Title: Help Please -Pin Removal
Post by: rtw on October 30, 2005, 02:24:17 PM
The pin is stuck in the frame and I can't remove it or reinsert it-perhaps because I don't know how much force I should apply in either direction.

The brass Brownell's punch isn't long enough to remove it.

Suggestions please.
Thanks, Dick

Never mind. I got it.

This was my first attempt at cleaning this gun, which is somewhat of a challenge for this spatially blind guy. I followed the owner's manual and the info on Chris' excellent FAQ site and all worked out well.

Brownell's 1/16 inch punch isn't as solid as I would like and I had misplaced RJ's "Stop Stick" so had to make do with a wooden chopstick and the end of a small screw driver. Definitely could use 3 hands.

I tried a brass punch too.  At that small  diameter, brass isn't strong enough.  So I ended up buying a steel punch from Brownell's.  I think it's a Starrett brand.  Very classy.  You won't damage the pin - it's hardened steel.
Disassembly / reassembly does get much easier with practice.   ;)

Dick,

I'm glad you got it OK.  Hope it went back together to your satisfaction.

I was madder than a hornet with my first experience.  And even made a couple of grouchy posts, that I later deleted.   :)
