Title: + P Ammo
Post by: Alphonso on October 26, 2010, 11:12:45 AM
I know that the R9 is not rated for +P.  I don't want to use it and don't plan to use it.

I'm curious, though, if anyone else has and what the results were...

I have never heard of any one admitting it but of all the other experiments tried with the pup it is likely some one fired +P.

I would guess a couple of rounds probably would not cause a catastrophic failure, but the pounding to the gun over time would shorten it's life. The difference between a +p and standard pressure round from a 2.9" barrel will not be worth the beating to the pup or the shooter. IMO

John.  You are right, for sure.  The barrel is too short to benefit from the +P round.

I now want to see one of our (rich) forum members take a R9 out, punish it to death with +P rounds, and give a detailed round-by-round report of each range session--with pictures of course... ;D

Good luck on that one!    :D

Why prove a known negative?

I would love to see videos and a detailed write up of this kind of experiment. Hell, I'd even chip in a few bucks. Seems like kind of a waste of such a nice (and expensive!) gun though.

Send me what you want to chip in and when I have collected  enough for a new pup I will run the test. ;D ;D ;D

Time I have plenty of, I don't want to waste my ammo. May need it for when the zombies come. ;D ;D

Either way, it's an excercise with no purpose.    ;)

Tom Watson disabused me of the need for the +P round and I am comfortable with the fact that excess powder would be squandered in so short a barrel.

As to the destructive test field report, consider for a moment that rich guys got that way for a reason and the last thing they would want to do is ruin a perfectly good R9.

ACP, well said, I was willing to do the test if the gun was free but not on my dime. ;D

kjtrains,

True; but I was late to this string, so please excuse my comments if they offend.

ACP.  No problem.  No offense taken.
