Title: Kydex Holster plus mag for Rohrbaugh?
Post by: Mr_Jody_Hudson on May 29, 2004, 08:22:18 PM
I like the functionality of the Rohrbaugh pocket holster with the mag pocket under the pistol grip.  I wonder if there is a lined kydex holster in the same design or someone who could and would do one for me?

I also like the idea of a covering flat piece to totally cover the outline of the pistol and mag so that there is no chance of printing at all..

Lots make "back pocket" designs with anti-print shields -- that can certainly be used in the front pocket too.  K&D makes a "convertible" 2-in-1 with a removable panel -- but only in leather...  ;D

Stellar Rigs -- www.stellarrigs.com -- does kydex holsters with mag carriers, but I don't think they are lined, and I am not sure he has R-9 availability yet.

I don't know anyone who sells lined Kydex holsters; however, knife makers will have a Kydex sheath wrapped in leather to improve its looks.

I like the idea of one lined with a soft tough material such as that in automobile headliners or the inside of bedroom slippers, or something even better that would protect the finish of the Rohrbaugh.

I'm off to look at the ideas now.

Houston Holsters produces lined Kydex holsters -- I have one for my Bersa Thunder 45 Ultra Compact -- but I doubt they will venture into a model for the R9s...

I got one for my 70 Series Gold Cup National Match.  They are lined with a synthetic "fuzzy suede" type of material.  They are very similar to Fobus in design, but are produced in Argentina.

That sounds perfect flyandscuba, do you have a link.

Perhaps such a holster with a choice of exotic skins on the outside could become THE Rohrbaugh holster for the Rohrbaugh web site... or at least one of the choices.

I hear that Karl wants to make certain that any holster that comes from the Rohrbaugh store is top-shelf in function and looks in keeping with all else they do.

Here's where I ordered mine for the Bersa Thunder 45 Ultra Compact and Colt Gold Cup:

http://www.allabouthunting.com/store/products/productDisplay.asp?manufacturer=HOUSTON%20HOLSTERS&model=PADDLE%20HOLSTER&affcode=froogleallabouthunting&keyword=319456&hbfootprint=Froogleallabouthunting

The package the holsters came in have a web address for the manufacturer but the English translation doesn't appear to be working:

www.houstonfundas.com

There is also an email address on the package you might want to try -- to see if they would be willing to make a production run for the R9s:

houston@netizen.com.ar

Just a word of caution on holster linings - ensure they are vegetable tanned material and not chrome tanned.  99% of your suede-type material is chrome tanned and will ruin the finish of a gun in fairly short order.

The key word here -- it's synthetic...not even real leather --no tanning involved.

Thanks, Flyandscuba, I had seen your earlier comment that it was synthetic.  I was only offering a general caution on choosing suede for a lining material, as not many folks are aware of the harm it can cause.
