I have one of the older R9's and when I bought it, the official policy was to use grease for lube. In reading all of the relevant threads, I gathered that the machining tolerances have been relaxed for the newer R9's and now the new official policy is any quality gun oil is acceptable. Is that a retroactive policy or should I still be using grease on my older R9? I haven't seen this question asked so I thought I'd ask it before switching to oil. Thanks for your help!

I have an older R9S. I stopped using the heavy grease originally recommended but still use a light grease (Slide-Glide Lite) sparingly applied to the areas originally suggested. I have no issues with this method of lubrication. My R9S loves Winchester Silvertips (115gr) and Speer GDHPs (115 & 124gr). The Silvertips are my everyday carry ammo.

I'm with you, Murray.

Ditto......on the Slide Glide but with an oil floater

I think the reason Rohrbaugh got away from the grease was it seemed to collect all the crud . Slowing down the cycle.
