Title: Why won't the slide come off?
Post by: C0untZer0 on October 12, 2014, 08:24:18 PM
I removed the pin but the slide doesn't go forward.

It will go back, I can cycle the slide just fine but it is acting like the pin in still in...

Nevermind, I figured it out.

It acts like the pin is still in there because the pin sheared in half - half of the pin is still in there.

I only fired 7 rounds this last outing.

I'm going to try to not be pessimistic, I'm just going to try to get the rest of the pin out of there and see what everything looks like :(

As far as I can tell, nothing is damaged besides the pin.

Now where the hell do I get a replacement pin.

Does anyone have that Remington number handy?

Bummer!  Does anyone have a theory as to why the pin would shear...improper position after cleaning, something awry internally?

PM   sent
"Call me, I will send you a pin.    313 8XXXXXXXXXXXXXX"

send me whatever you want,

might be right time If you want some home made tools I could send too.

improper position   -   I don't think so if it went back together and racked
Maybe bad pin combined with old spring and or hotter heaver load ? ? ?

What does Docboss think     Others!
Maybe visual inspection with good light + 10X loop might show something more.

It broke on standard pressure HST.  I've never fired anything but standard pressure ammo in my R9.

I don't know how you can improperly place the pin, if it isn't in all the way the slide won't cycle.  I don't know how it would be possible to put the pin behind or forward of the linkage.

See now... this is what I've been talking about.

I just posted how happy I was to be able to order spare trigger springs, thinking that between them, the spare recoil springs and grip screws that I already have, I'd be good.

But here we go, another wear item that I need to have in stock.

UGH! :-\

I suspect a good machinist could reproduce that pin with relative ease...do we have any forum members with that talent?

I think bamboobob was going to sell the count one.

I really think that no larger than the pin is, some heat treatment process is involved to get the final product.  Just a guess.

Pin and issue with HST function may be related.

HST may function in yours.
Is it possible if heavy-147gr. contributed to pin issue    ? ? ?   (possible debate)

Recent info from another source suggested that Federal HST may be a little hotter than expected...especially with 147 gr could this be a problem?

HST is a little hotter than some other 147gr ammo - just based on chrono results.

I now have a slight gouge in the frame just forward of the pin hole, I'm assuming the sheered pin did that.  It is very shallow.  But I took my gun to the range and had a pretty disappointing outing with it trying to shoot Winchester 147gr RA9T.

I  had 2 failure to feed in 7 rounds.

I'm not sure if my gun is acting differently now since it sheered that pin or what...
