BillinPittsburgh,

You don't really believe that your newly elected Democrat Senator is going to buck the rest of the Democrat Party when the Democrats slip a "poision pill" anti gun measure into some hugh catch all bill, do you?

As far as cleaning up the corruption.  If anyone thinks that the Democrat party is not the lyingest, backstabbing most bereft of any moral compas party in the country they are mistaken.   Democrats will spit in your face and then tell you it's raining.  NOW, I am sure there are some decent Democrats but they can not buck the current extreme left wing leadership that is running the party right now.

I do hope this loss will shift the Republicans back to the more conservative traditions that I myself believe in anyway.

Mike,

Unfortunately you are completely right about the Democrats.  While there are a small minority of individual good ones, the vast majority of the party can't be trusted.

Hopefully this short-term problem will result in a better long-term situation by the Republicans abandoning the RINO's and running some true conservatives in 2008.

Hello again all,

Fortunately, from what I can tell it seems that most of the Republican losers were of the "moderate" persuasion(RINO).

Thankfully, it also seems that a good percentage of the Democrat winners are on the "conservative" side of the Democrat party.  I hope these new "common sense" Democrats have enough guts to stand up to the likes of Nancy Pelosie/Hillary Clinton/Ted Kenedy/ and all the rest of the Socialists/Marxists that are running the Democrat party.

Not long ago in PA, there was a major push for more gun control led by Democratic Gov. "Fast Eddie" Rendell and Democrats from Phila., and backed by the National Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and the major Phila. media outlets.  The Republicans had only a narrow majority in both houses, but all bills were defeated very soundly, by margins that indicate that a large number of Democrats voted with the Republicans in defeating them.

When Slick Willie was president and the Democrats had both houses of Congress, they almost didn't succeed in getting the Brady Bill and the so-called "assault weapon" ban passed.  Ten years later, with the Republicans in charge of both houses of Congress and in the White House, we weren't sure if the renewal would be defeated.  With all of the support that gun owners have given the Republicans, it should have been an easy, guaranteed win for us.  I am disappointed that there was even the slightest likelihood of renewal.

Maybe another silver lining is that gun owners will start getting more vigilant, and like at the height of Slick Willie's administration, join the NRA and other pro-gun groups in record numbers.

Not to find fault with women but maybe male apathy--I know
some of my now distant friends said they just weren't going
to vote---I read that 51% of the voters nationwide were
female and that 55% of them voted democrat.

As my wife, a very independent thinker, observed: "The
Democrats did not win the election, the Republicans lost
it". It is now time to circle the wagons and plan for the
attack in '08. I view this as a stock market correction but
we have to stay invested to win the next battle and the
war.

If Bush signs a gun control bill, makes you wonder how he expects to be able to come back to West Texas.

If he signs a gun control bill, he is not welcome in central or west Texas.  Tom

For those who may not have seen this yet:

NRA-ILA Grassroots Alert Vol. 13, No. 45 11/09/06
ELECTION 2006 RE-CAP

On November 7, 2006, the American electorate took out its frustration and anger on the Republican Party and turned over control of Congress, not to mention governors' mansions and majorities in several state legislatures, to the Democrats.  Importantly, however, on a day that saw voters expressing dissatisfaction over conduct of the war, over political corruption and over competency to govern, Americans cast their votes for record numbers of pro-gun candidates, both Democrat and Republican.

Many of the newly elected office holders pledged their support of the Second Amendment while on the campaign trail.  They got elected when voters took them at their word.  Those same voters, which certainly include first and foremost NRA members, will be closely watching them to make sure they walk the walk as well as talk the talk.  NRA will make sure opportunities for tests of true intentions are not long in coming.

Change in Washington, D.C., will be very real.  Extreme opponents of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms have been elevated to seats of power, especially in the House of Representatives, where Nancy Pelosi will become Speaker and John Conyers is set to take over the powerful Judiciary Committee.  Anti-gunners will also assume the chairs of important sub-committees. The power shift is balanced in part by the fact that Second Amendment champion, and former NRA Board Member John Dingell, the longest serving member in the House, is set to regain the reins of the Energy and Commerce Committee and will be a powerful voice for gun owners rights among his colleagues.  Pro-gun Democrats will also chair some very relevant committees and sub-committees.

There will be battles ahead, and, with the 2008 elections on the ever-nearing horizon, NRA members and their fellow gun owners must remain ever vigilant.  We must let our representatives, both Democrat and Republican, know one thing:  we expect our Second Amendment rights to be respected.

Again, thank you for all you have done this election year, and all you will continue to do in the future.

Hmm, I live in Central Texas (hill country)...for some reason, I always thought Crawford was in west Texas -- the girl I knew from there at A&M seemed like she was from west Texas -- he won't be too welcome, regardless, if he signs anything gun control measures.

All I know is that I decided now was a good time to finally buy that AR.  If any gun control stuff is coming down the pike I want my "evil black rifle" before they attempt to push through another ridiculous "assault weapons ban" or worse.
