Title: I Guess It's Back to Basics
Post by: DPK_R-9S on July 09, 2009, 03:54:56 PM
First day at the range.
Tried different types, brands, and weights of ammo.
Did not do very well at 15 yards.
Next session I will start close in and try to find out what I am doing wrong.
I'm learning to shoot all-over again. Looks like this may take some time.

Welcome to the forum.  What brands and wts. of ammo were you using?   Some R9s' are very choosy about their diet.

Try starting at 15 feet, not 15 yards.  Only corrupt politicians (but I repeat myself) are obvious threats at 15 yards and beyond.

That's a good point.  However, in the demonstration of Karl Rohrbaugh on You Tube, his R9 performs at 25 yds with good results; 15 yds should not be a problem.

I have not experienced any problems at these yardages.  I agree, 15 ft. would be a better starting point.  Karl starts out at 7 yds, then goes to 25 yds.

He makes the same point; most encounters come at close range.  The 25 yds just proves what the gun can do.

DPK_R-9S:

Welcome to the Forum!

If you practice maintaining a firm grip, sighting with both eyes open, and using your preferred stance (mine is what is termed the "Modern Isosceles"), you will soon be surprised at the accuracy you can achieve with the R9. Also, work on avoiding what is termed "anticipation of recoil," which can produce a slight involuntary flinch just as the trigger is pulled.

This diagnostic target was posted sometime back here on the Forum, but it may be worth bringing forward here:

Good shooting!
