Title: 085 vs 086 holsters

I'd  like to get an OWB holster for general around the house/yard carry of my R9S and am trying to decide between the 085 and 086 Rohrbaugh branded holsters.

Part of me things the thumb break would be nice/reassuring for that kind of use.

go with a thumb break due to short bbl.  Tom

The thumb break strap will also act as a slide guard or sweat guard as some call it to keep the slide from contacting your skin. When working around the house / yard the leather is more comfortable against the skin than the slide, and it will help keep the sweat off the slide. IMO
