I received an email today from Boberg as I'm sure many ofyou did, so I'm thinking there ready to start taking orders.
But Nooo.. they have a Face Book page ??? Wow I can hardly wait to sign up, whats next Twitter or My Space. ::)
Boberg Arms
A message to all members of Boberg Arms
Hi!
Boberg Arms has a new Facebook Page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Boberg-Arms/182226611833290
-
Count me out.
I don't do social networking.
-
I'm with you there. ;D
-
I'm a member, but rarely post, except to the kids and grandkids. They love it. :)
-
I'm not a computer guy, but I've had more than one tell me that Facebook and MYspace is one of the top places to get a computer virus even if you have virus protection.
My computer is 6 years old, my wife's is less than 3 and we have the same virus program. She gets on Facebook, I don't.
She constantly has virus problems and her computer is down and in the shop.
Mine is still humming along.
As usual, she won't listen.
Also, I was at a hotel a few weeks ago and they had a sign on they guest lobby computer saying "No Facebook or gaming".
I inquired why, knowing the answer. The clerk told me they had gone through 8 computers in less than a year and a half with virus protection due to Facebook and Gaming sites.
-
I don't go on Face Book or gaming sites and have had two Windows based computers with virus protection go to viruses.
I now have a Mac Book Pro for the last couple of years and no protection and no virus problems. My Daughter has had her Mac Book for over three years and lives on Face Book and has no protection and has never had a problem.
I'll never go back to Windows after having the Mac.
-
I've had Vista for 3 years now, and surprisingly, no problems. That being said, still, my next lap top will probably be a Mac.
-
i make my living with computer and had used PCs for over 25 years.
specifically because of virus problems and the total loss of a fully-protected laptop, i switched to a mac a couple years ago.
no need of anti-virus software, no hassles, no stress.
i'm never going back to a PC, for that reason alone.
-
BIG +1 on that. ;D ;D
-
+1 on Mac. I switched a couple years ago and there is no comparison IMO.
As for Facebook, the site itself is not the problem, it is when you click on posts and links from people that lead to a virus. Same can be said for hyperlinks embedded in emails. Don't click on them unless you know exactly what it is.
-
Arne made some cool post on his forum today. Here are a couple:
"Frame production is going well - pre-orders will be out today for the first group."
" Price will be posted on this website today."
It's sounding like it won't be long now!!
-
Glad there finally filling the pre orders from 08.
Definitely not on my short list of must have pistols.
Here is the posted price from the site.
The introductory retail price is $949

I've watched the Boberg startup for quite some time. It's an intriguing firearm. Unfortunately it's a one trick pony.
By that I mean that it only improves on the current state of the art in one area, barrel length.
It's bigger in all dimentions and heavier unloaded than a loaded R9.
It's heavier and taller than a PM9 although a little shorter in slide length.
It's a completely untested design and will have limited production so it'd not likely to have meaningful reliability data available for some time to come.
Is a bigger, heavier firearm worth a longer barrel?
If the answer is "yes", then buy a Glock 19, or even two for the same price as one XM9. If the answer is "no" then buy a PM9 and save $400, or buy an R9 which is already a proven design and is significantly smaller and lighter. The R9 is a much better concealment firearm than the bulky Boberg is spec'ed to be.
The Boberg has a lot of "gee-wiz" factor but not much other than novelty to justify it's price.
Some things could be done to make it more competitive, like reducing the capacity to 6+1 to shrink the large grip reducing size and weight.
We'll see what the future brings, I wish Arne Boberg the best. I'd love to see another quality US manufacturer thriving.
-
I think you summed it up perfectly. I was very interested when they were first announced. As I waited and spent more time looking at the gun and the specs it became clear I didn't see anything special that kept me wanting one.
I don't find the guns looks appealing and the ability to shoot +P ammo is of little interest to me.
-
Here are some new factory photos. I for one am VERY excited to get one soon.

Last but not least is the funky mag. ;D
(http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x275/ccaallaahhaann/Boberg/_MG_3264.jpg)
-
The quality looks to be top notch. If that is the case it should do well. Unlike the Glock which I like because of its reliability the Borberg appears to have great ergonomics and tactile facility.
-

I would love to shoot one, but there's nothing in the spec's to really entice me to shell out ~$1000 for one. Maybe the proof in is the shooting and I'll change my mind then.
Originally I was excited and wanted to buy one also. But I already own a PM9, an R9, and for a longer barreled CCW a P9 Covert. All are smaller than the Boberg in the area most critical for concealment, the size of the grip. The Boberg is a fairly heavy pistol, so it has no weight advantage either. After taking a honest apprasial of the Boberg and it's specifications, I realised it would be a safe queen for me as the other pistols I own will carry better.
I guess that's the real issue for me; the Boberg almost equals the current state-of-the-art for CCW. Which I already own.
-
The higher capacity and longer barrel do it for me.
-
One will have to be careful how they grip it. The end of the barrel is extremely close to the trigger guard. You would be wise to hold it like a revolver if two hands are involved.
On the subject of Facebook/Myspace... I run a network for a large company and as was mentioned before, they are the place to go if you are looking for problems.

The higher capacity and longer barrel do it for me.
Those would be very good reasons for you to purchase one then. :) My priorities are different, so we have different thoughts on the Boberg. I already own firearms that are better than the Boberg, for my needs. But that's why there are so many different popular firearms, requirements differ by individual.
I bet you'll enjoy that unique little pistol. I'd certainly love to shoot one.
-
Has anyone, here, been able to purchase a Boberg yet or even put in their order? Just curious. :)
-
I've ordered but don't know when my number will come up. Seems the lucky people who got in the first batch order will be getting theirs soon.

-
I have not received the preorder form yet. Was expecting that a couple months ago; takes time; I know.
-
I'll wait for the R45, it may even beat the Slowberg. ;D
-
I know what you mean. :)
-
I'd bet a shiny quarter that the R45 won't be the first one out.
I sorta like the way Ruger has done it for the past few years with having guns ready (or almost) to ship before they ever announce the gun.
-
I like that too; when it's announced you just buy it; simple.
-
Thats the smart way to do it, people see it they like it they buy it. This way people see it they like they get tired of waiting and buy a Ruger. ;D ;D
-
In some cases they buy the Ruger and wish they had waited longer.
-
Let's see now, I've got five Rugers, no six Rugers, and never have wished I had waited longer. ;) And I don't feel like I'm just lucky! :)
-
Did you buy an LCP?
-
I did and it works as it should. And I'm not lucky there either, but wait a minute; maybe I was in this case. I didn't buy one of the first ones out if that's what you're getting at.
However, I didn't wait on purpose. Just happened to be after the recall. :) I guess that is fairly lucky; no question. :D
-
I'm not saying I like to be a test dummy. I'm just saying I don't have the best patients. Im all for waiting until the product is right before you start shipping. I feel that's just what Boberg has done.
I guess the wait has been.........sorta fun. ;D ;D
-
I bought one of the first LCPs and never had a problem and I liked it a lot. I did send it back for the recall work but not because I had issues and it was after things slowed down on the recalls.
I had over 2000 rounds through it with no failures when I sold it after purchasing a Kahr P380.
-
I’m fortunate to be included in Boberg's first batch.
If all goes well, I should have my gun in a few weeks.
I’m certainly looking forward to it.
-
Looks like the first ones are ready to ship next week! It's been a long wait since the February 2008 shot show. I'm excited to start seeing some reviews and owner pics.
-
I "need" another pocket 9. I'm getting bored with the DB9. Time for some fresh meat.
-
I hope you were on the list otherwise I think it will be a bit of a wait. ;D
-
I got on the list as soon as they said they were accepting names for the preorder. Still haven't heard a word.
-
;D ;D
-
I got on the list as soon as they said they were accepting names for the preorder. Still haven't heard a word.
Ken I think the next group or orders will be very soon. Maybe you will be in that group. Do you remember when you got on the list? I got on it 2-19-2008 I think.
-
Corey. I don't remember, but as soon as it was announced that they were taking names for the preorder, I sent Arnie an email and got a reply back that I was on the list.
I did send him another email and asked where I was on the list, but haven't gotten a reply; I know they're busy.
-
Anyone else besides me thinks the price is a bit high for that Boberg? Maybe it's hard to say at this point but I am feeling that.
-
The market will sort out the price and the initial buyers will pioneer the kinks, if any.
-
I don't think the price is so bad but the gun itself hits pretty high on the ugly scale for me. Plus it's too heavy to compete with the pup for pocket space. ;D
-
R9 w/mag is 15.1 oz
XR9s w/mag is 17.5 oz
2.4 oz difference is not a lot IMO. Most comparisons I've seen here and other places put the R9 at 13.5 oz but that number is not counting the magazine.
Yep, it's looks are either a love or hate kind of thing.
-
Corey,
Slight difference in R9 weight with mag, 14.3 oz., according to this.
http://www.rohrbaughforum.com/ccm_r9.pdf
-
Well, Rohrbaugh's own site shows
13.5 + 1.6 and that is 15.1 oz
http://www.rohrbaughfirearms.com/products
-
All I see is 13.5 oz. "unloaded." Am I missing something?
In any case, I don't wish to pocket carry anything heavier than the R9.
-
They show a picture with the empty gun on a digital scale and a empty mag beside it on a separate digital scale.
-
Ok, thanks, and mine weighs a bit more with a mag extension. I like the Borberg but can't see it as a pocket carry.
-
That's understandable.
-
So, other than the new whiz bang, what is the carry option?
-
I'm going with front pocket. The weight won't bother me, heck, I'm 275lbs myself. Lol. I guess we won't know until you have in hand to see what will work for that person.
-
It is very unique and a well conceived design.
-
I do like the unique design.
-
My R9 weighs in at 18.0 oz loaded with 115 gr, the PM9 at 19.7 loaded with 115 gr, so that means the Boberg comes in at 20.5 oz. I would have no trouble with that.
I do not notice thae extra weight of the PM9, it is the square top of the slide I notice in my pocket.
-
I agree, MRC. I would have no problems with the weight, either. As to whether I would carry the Boberg over the R9 or Seecamp remains to be seen; probably not, however, it would receive some carry time I'm sure.
I like new and interesting ideas and the Boberg fits that concept along with a quality look.
-
The first batch of guns (53) have now been shipped.
-
Corey. Was one of the 53 yours?
-
Yep! 8)
-
Yep! 8)
Hot dog! Congrats! :D

Great news, congrats!

Corey. I got an email from Arnie today at 3:59 PM saying I am in the next group with the notification going out on Monday. Sounds good!

Great Ken, how many you getting?
-
I signed up for one, but will take two if I can. How about you?
-
You should be able to get two consecutive ones and they might be under serial number 100. That would be neat. I'm getting two.

Excellent, Corey. Arnie's email said my S/N (s) may be under 100, so maybe I can get two. That would be neat!

Well now that there shipping one of you new owners needs to start a Boberg forum. ;D
-
http://www.bobergarms.com/forum
-
I'm a member on there but was referring to a non owner operated site. ;D
-
If I were to wrap my left index finger around the front of the trigger guard, would the muzzle blast singe the skin and the burn the hair?
-
After a long but very worthwhile wait, I'm holding a brand new Boberg XR9 in my hand.
The workmanship is absolutely incredible and the grip / feel is perfect.
The term "work of art" gets tossed around a lot in the gun world.
It really fits this time.
Yes, as you can tell, I'm excited about this little gun!
-
Congrats, Curt. I got my notification today, and sent in payment by Boberg's website. Should have mine in eight to nine weeks from now per Arnie.
I know you're one happy Boberg owner! :D
-
Curt, where are all the cool pics and range reports? Congrats on the early Boberg, what number did you get?
-
Are they as ugly in person as in the pics ?
-
Are they as ugly in person as in the pics ?
Actually, it feels better in my hand and I feel looks better than my Rohrbaugh.
But then again, I don't buy hand guns because I like they way they look.
What matters to me are things like the ability to use +P ammunition, no limp-wristing, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC5uVGMXS8k and not having to replace a spring every 200 + rounds.
Little things like that.
-
Different strokes for different folks. Function is always most important and my pup has been 100% with any ammo from day one.
It's nice to have a good working and good looking gun ;D
+P is not the best thing since sliced bread and tends to be a little overrated by some, good quality standard pressure ammo with proper shot placement will kill you just as quick and a poorly placed +P shot is will have no more benefit.:D

Yes, function will always trump apprearance when it comes to firearms.
I certainly won't get into a "Rohrbaugh vs Boberg contest".
Both are truly excellent guns.
-
Why does the +p shot always have to be poorly placed?

WADR, if my gun wasn't able to shoot +P's, I'd probably write something very similar.
But, I don't have to. :)
-
Curt. Have you made plans or gotten a holster for the Boberg yet?
-
Curt. Have you made plans or gotten a holster for the Boberg yet?
Yes, but for the life of me I can't remember who makes it.
He's a member here.
It's a soft holster.
Update: It's a Remora Series 4A-ART soft holster.
-
Yes, but for the life of me I can't remember who makes it.
He's a member here.
It's a soft holster.
I put in an order with Meco today for a pocket holster with delivery in 4 to 6 weeks. It will be here before the Boberg. :D
-
There's actually four holster makers listed on the Boberg website; Side Guard, JS Holster, Hidden Holsters, and Meco.
-
Robert at Meco just sent me an email saying he had a holster ready to go like I ordered and would ship tomorrow. Man! That is fast service. Thanks, Robert!
-
Can't beat that with a stick!
-
WADR, if my gun wasn't able to shoot +P's, I'd probably write something very similar.
But, I don't have to. :)
I'm reasonably sure if if I carried the R9 with +Ps and had to use it in defense of myself or loved ones it would work fine and be none the worse for wear after one mag. :D
I'm glad the Bobergs are shipping and hope they make a go of it. Like any other gun if it appealed to me I would get one, it just doesn't. It's different but just doesn't have enough WOW factor to make me want one.
-

We all want to say that we "own the "best".
I think the concern from a lot of R9 owners will be the realization that the new Boberg has the potential to knock the R9 off the Pocket 9mm throne.
And if any gun can do it, it's the Boberg.
(And this is coming from a still very proud R9 owner).
The Boberg is that good.
Is there room at the top for two?
We'll see.
-
Looks like Meco got part of his order in today. :o
I can't wait for Christmas, hint, hint.... ;D
(http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x275/ccaallaahhaann/Boberg/MECO.jpg)
-
WOW! Congrats, Robert! :D
-
Just a quick note that we're able to make holsters for the Boberg, too. ;)
-
Due to the rather longish "tail" on the gun, I am curious as to how easily it is extracted from a pocket compared to a Rourbaugh. Looks like alot of chances for snagging. where with the Rohrbaugh one's hand acts somewhat as a ramp or slide when pulling it, cannot do that with the Boberg. Or am I wrong? (That could never be ;D )
Chief
-
I'll know in about eight weeks! ;D
-
I looked on their site, cannot find a price anywhere. How much is this thing?
-
$949.00. :)
-
hmmmmmm, sounds like a nice 1911, or AR-15, or some good optics......... Hope this gun works it is in Kimber Solo and Rohrbaugh range also at that price point.
Trying not to get another itch that needs scratching ;D
-
I understand completely. Only preorders are being filled right now, so may would take awhile for a non-preorder to be taken; however, one can still get on the preorder list which now the preorder form is on line on the Boberg website.
-
I picked up mine today. The fit and finish are impeccable and it feels great in the hand too. I can't wait till Friday when I get to test one of them out. I think Arne has hit a home run with these. Time will tell for others but for me, I LOVE IT! I was also fortunate enough to score the slide from the prototype taken to the 2008 shot show.

Excellent, Corey. I'm liking it already. Great, on the prototype slide.
-
I couldn't wait till tomorrow. ;D

Corey. Fantastic. Thanks for the video. The Boberg is one fine shootin' gun; I can hardly wait. Going to be a long two months. Glad you couldn't wait! ;D
-
CWC, looks like she's a shooter.. thanks for the vid...
-
Thanks Corey!

Corey,
Slight difference in R9 weight with mag, 14.3 oz., according to this.
http://www.rohrbaughforum.com/ccm_r9.pdf
Tracker and CWC, ya'll got me curious, so I took some weights using a My Weigh Precision Balance (claimed accuracy is within .1 gram).
My R9s unloaded, but with an empty mag is 15.13 oz. Loaded with 7 rounds of Gold Dot 124 gr the total loaded weight is 18.18 oz. That's using a mag without an extension, and with a set of VZ G10 grips installed.
-
Moonshine, you got me curious now.
So I weighed my 3. Not as a rebuttal or to be argumentative, just curious as you. There seems to be some discreprentcies out there.
My scale is a commercial electronic one used for measuring tare weights. It picks up a 90 gr bullet in a 5k lot, so it is pretty accurate.
R9 no sights empty - 12.64 oz
W/Designer Grips - modified
w/ full mag 124 gr GD - 16.8 oz
R9s with OEM CF grips empty - 12.96 oz
w/ full mag of 147 G/Sabers - 17.44 oz
R9s w/ VZ cf Grips - 13.12 oz
w/full mag of 124 GD - 17.28 oz
No mag extensions, and 6 rounds only
Would like to hear what others have too.
-
I'll see what mine weighs in at if I get a chance before I leave on Tuesday.
-
~17 oz. with 6 vs. 18 oz. loaded with 7 works for me.
y no mas, por favor.
-

Holy cow, that's quite a difference. I wonder if the difference is in the scales, the guns, or both? Yes, definitely, others need to chime in.
-
Standard R9s, VZ grips, Mag Extension, 7 rounds 115 gr GD
18 oz.
PM9 with 7 rounds of 115 GD and mag extension
19.7 oz.
-
From my spreadsheet titled "Honest Weights". Everything is loaded to full capacity with GD 124 grain. All have stock magazines w/o any extenders. All measurements taken on the same scale.
DiamondBack DB9 15.9
Rohrbaugh R9s 18.1
Kahr PM9 19.6
-
Kahr PM9 19.6
That's spot on with what I came up with for my PM9, same mag, same ammo.
-
Unloaded Pup with no mag = 13.1oz
Unloaded with empty mag = 14.9oz
With full mag & loaded (124gr Winchester Rangers), hooked mag extension and designer grips = 18.3oz
As above in Keeton pocket holster = 20.4oz
-
With a couple of Boberg owners having there guns lets see some real loaded and unloaded weights. :D
-
I just weighed my Boberg filled with hollow points.
It was approx. 21.7 oz.
This was done with a rather inexpensive kitchen diet scale so I don't know it's accuracy.
-
R9S with stock G-10 grips.
13.30 oz/377 grams - empty, no magazine.
18.35 oz/520 grams - loaded with seven rounds of Speer 147g Gold Dots.
Stock magazine with six rounds of Speer 147g Gold Dots is 4.55 oz/129 grams
One round of the Speer 147g Gold Dot is .50 oz/14grams.
All the numbers work out, and that's all on an inexpensive OHAUS CS-2000 digital scale, primarily used to monitor the weight of my tortoise.
-

I was fortunate to be one of the first to receive one.
It's an incredible handgun.

I justified it by promising myself that I wouldn't buy anything new until the Boberg was ready. So, this could be a real money saver for me. ;D

You just had to break the promise to yourself, didn't you, Ljutic? Very nice! :)

there will be used Bobergs on the market before too long, maybe you can snag a bargain. ;D

Your right but my edit was one minute before your reply. :o

That's right too, but as you see, I had already clicked quote and got it before your edit. :o

who cares?
-
Corey. How many rds through the Boberg now?
-
Just over 1000. It's proven itself to me now so the volume of shots will slow way down now.
