Nickle Finish-Advice Please

The good news is that I have found a 4" S&W Model 25-5 (45 Colt).

It has a nickle finish. I don't know if that's good news or bad news.

Since I prefer the older guns,a blued gun is my only other option.

Should I wait for a blued gun to turn up?

If the Smith's nickel finish is in good condition, I would go for it.  Nickel plating (both the traditional electrolytic and the more recent electroless process) has a high degree of corosion resistance.  It may be damaged, however, by certain harsh solvents, so be careful what you use to clean it.  Even if the condition is not good, you could always have the weapon refinished by S&W or one of the quality custom shops.

I agree the Nickle is generally a pretty tough finish.  I wouldn't let that hold me up unless you just don't like the look.

Dick - just me but - I don't like nickel finish!!  Guess it comes over as too ''bling-bling'' - too bright and shiny!!  Plus - I have seen many fine specimens but - also noticed just how seemingly easy it is for the plating to begin to peel.

In your position I would bide awhile and wait for a nice blued to come along if at all possible.... which might also mean an earlier model, which would be better too.  Could even be a 625 lurking somewhere too - and in that case if a newer one, then it'd be probably the satin finish which I quite like.

That's just me tho!  Decisions - decisions!!
