Josh,

Finding a Farmie should not be too difficult depending on what exactly you are after. Below are some of the specific attributes I look for when trying to find a collectable gun. I would decide exactly what you want and try to find that specific gun. For me the hunt is a big part of the fun.

1. Farmingdale, NY on slide. Plenty of these guns exist and you will see the farmingdale slides on guns up into the R600 range frames.

2. Blue OEM CF grips. The earlier farmingdales shipped with the blue cf grips. You already have a set of these so you have some latitude if find a gun with the black or after market grips you could just add these.

3. "R9s" on the slide if the gun has sights. All of the first 48 no R prefix SN guns with sights have the R9s designation. There are a few R prefix guns that also have the R9s designation and there is no real rhyme or reason to what serial number is on the frame. I would shoot for trying to find this on whatever gun you buy as it is a cool story.

4. No R prefix serial number. Only the first 48 guns plus some custom SN guns have this feature. These guns also have a unique frame color "early gray" which has a bronze like tint to it. They also have a very thin slide that was actually thinner than designed and was thickend up for the R prefix production guns.

5. Silver frame. These are the rarest of the bunch. I think there were only 12 or so silver frame farmingdales and only 2 of those lack the R prefix SN. If you find an early silver frame I would recommend buying it.

Hope this helps and have fun.

Ryan

Some Farmingdales were numbered into the mid 700s s/n; that was the number on the frame but they could have easily been made in Deer Park with a carry over Farmingdale slide.

I see, but they would be for all intents and purposes a Farmingdale Tracker?

Yes, for all intents and purposes it would still be a Farmingdale because there would be no other way to tell unless one knew the exact manufacturing date. It wouldn't make any difference anyway. If it is labeled Farmingdale, take it.

I have a trail on two pre-prefix consecutive numbered R9 Pistols which were purchased at the time by a close friend as a gesture to help start us off and as an investment for them. I will be going over to their home soon to look at, take some photographs and overall inspect these two firearms and as I see them, it will certainly come back to my mind the history of the build. Being I made a good number of personal friend's pistols early on, this is good information to have as collectibles. I will post some photographs of these hopefully by next week. Josh asked me if I knew of any Farmies, so I must say he has first pick of either one or both to be fair.

Josh

You are kinda remind me of the old dog who sits outside the butcher shop wining until they finally throw him a bone.

Only kidding, I hope it works out for you.

. . . . And if he doesn't. . . . . . Well, let's just say we may have to go "New York" on 'em.  lol

. . . . and let's also remember: Josh may or may not like either one of them.

. . . . Oh hell, I'll go one more here:  We all still don't know what the asking prices are for them yet.

Lol. Both analogies probably work just fine. Hopefully the whining isn't too incessant and annoying. Now anyone want to give me a Farmie? Hmm hmm hmmm hmm hmm.... Lol. Sad eyes and all. Right here. I would even let you throw your R9 (Or any other firearms for that matter ; ) my way MRC. I mean as long as your giving bones to the begging dog and all. Lol.

And as for the blind squirrel, that's definitely a good fit. I probably couldn't find my way out of a wet paper sack without you fellows' help on this whole Farmingdale thing. I can't even spell Farmy. Lol

Thanks again for all the help fellas.

Eagerly awaiting the next analogy. Please, just don't get my wife involved in this. It may get really ugly fast. Haha.

As for not liking either of them I don't think that will be a problem at all 😄

I have made my mistakes with my first R9. I think they will be pretty safe here. Plus I don't want anyone going New York on me 😜

Then there is the whole price thing. I'm anxious to see what they want for them. I have typically found folks to be pretty reasonable. I am hopeful we can work something out.

Waiting with bated breath Eric.

Thanks again for this great opportunity sir.

My pleasure to help both sides here Josh. . . . . Both you, a Rohrbaugh R9 enthusiast, and my friends of some 27 years. I can say that with the provenance these pistols have, I don't expect them to be inexpensive, but are they going to be over 2500 each?. . . . . I don't think so. I have no idea what they are looking for yet, but we will all know by sometime next week for sure. If memory serves me correctly, I believe they have #125 and 126, no prefix. The other S.N.s that come to mind is 116 / 117.  Not too sure anymore other than I know they are pre-prefix and consecutive R9s.

OK, I bet that is enough information to get ya going today!   lol

Speak with you all soon. . . . . I'm heading out to work on my motorcycle now so it is ready for my trip in April down south to N.C. and Alabama.

I love those backroads in The Great Smokey Mountains!

Cheers

Eric R.

Photographs of these girls to follow. . . . . .  ;)

OK folks. . . . . . I stopped by my friend’s house, took some photographs of the two pre-prefix Farmingdale, NY made R9s and sent those along to Josh. I said to him to take his time and have a look at the photographs and give it some thought prior to a commitment, but, as mentioned before, he had the right of first refusal. With that said, a week or so went by and Josh contacted me. We spoke and he sadly had to say it is not in the cards for him at this time for such an outlay, so he would have to pass on any purchases at this time, but he was extremely gracious in conversations with me about those two R9s. Josh is absolutely a standup guy, who I now consider a friend here. With that said, I will be posting in the "Classifieds Area" the two early no prefix R9s now for anyone who may have an interest in two very rare Rohrbaugh R9 Pistols. Take a look there. If they do not go within a few weeks, I will be putting them on another local to me forum. . . . Long Island Firearms Forum, a.k.a.: "LIF".

I want The Rohrbaugh Forum folks here to have the first crack at these gems. Eventually, I will put them on Gunbroker if they are not sold through these two forums.

Regards,

Eric R.

Sorry i am not able to make it happen at this time.

Best wishes to the seller and I'm confident someone will be very proud to have these in their collection. Truly beautiful.

What is the price range on this type of pistol in excellent condition, original box, papers, low 300 serial number, no sights, silver frame, spare blue grips and original blue grips?

If I may ask?

Is your question in reference to something you personally own?

Sonny the silver frame aspect should add a lot of value to the right person.

That is true. We did not make many silver framed R9s.  For your information, those were a hard-coat anodizing process by a company in Connecticut.

I would need to see a few photographs of your gun Sonny to throw an estimate on it for you. Again, anything is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

Eric,
when you get down here to 'Bama, make sure you visit the Barber Motorsports museum.
It is near Birmingham, and is the Gugenheim of motorcycle museums.
Keep the round side down.

That is exactly where were are riding to for a two day visit while on our club run. I'm leaving April 10th for a leisurely ride solo down to The Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge and Resort in Stecoah, North Carolina. I'll be meeting up with about 14 of my fellow Long Island BMW Riders Club members for local rides there, but yes, "The Barber" in Leeds, Alabama is one of our destinations on this tour for us. Thanks for the heads up on it. Not ashamed, I have attached a photograph of me with my current steed one foggy morning at the Fire Island, NY lighthouse / water tower.

Just checked the maps and Wheels through Time is pretty close to Stecoah, NC where our headquarters for this tour resides. I may make the time to visit it as I'll be breaking away from the rest of the club members anyway after the main part of our ride and will be going solo to meet up with RichardS from the forum after ten years of just over the phone and eMail conversations. He and his wife are on my "Bucket List" of people I must meet in my lifetime.

FYI there is a farmie on GB right now for under $1400.

Real nice piece. It does have a few very minor blemishes and says its unfired. Looking at the slide rails it appears that it is. It's in TN.
