Safety intercept notch on hammer?
« on: March 17, 2005, 01:54:01 AM »
Oh, as I was looking over my new pistol, I was wondering what stops the pisol from firing if it is dropped on its hammer?  Sig pistols, for example, have a "safety intercept notch" that prevents the hammer from contacting the firing pin when something hits the hammer from behind.  Also, in a Sig there is a firing pin block that prevents forward movement of the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled.

On the R9s, I did see that the hammer is recesed into the back of the slide,  but I assume we rely on more than that.  Does anyone know what passive safetys are built in?
