Title: Preferred ammo

What brand & weight ammo seems to work best in the R9's?
I am very interested in the Rohrbaugh's for CCW.
I am use to Detonics .45's, S&W 640's & S&W 39-2's.
Any input as to the type of recoil I can expect?
Haven't seen one in person, just on the website.

I got in a hundred rounds of Silvertips among some Hornadys and Gold Dots this afternoon. Next trip out I will try and see about making a permanent selection for my carry ammo with the R9s. Fed Ex does a good job delivering ammo as I just oreded this on Saturday and today is Tuesday. Ofcourse cheaperthandirt.com has something to do with it as well.

I have a total of 48 rounds thru this new pistol and don't think I need anymore range time to check reliability. I am convinced this gun will fire evey time I pull the trigger. Only hold up now is the holster that RJ Hedley is making for me. I expect to see it any day now. :)

Bottom line = you need to try a variety of QUALITY defensive ammo in your Pup to determine what works best for you. And remember...the R-9 was built to be carried a lot...but shot a little. The R-9 is not intended to be a "range gun" for target shooting. That's why God created Glocks = to be shot a lot or to your heart's desire. To protect your heart, carry the R-9.

Note to LAM = $700 is a swell price for an R-9. I wish I had a co-worker who would give me such a deal. Oh yeah...I have no co-workers as I am the owner and sole proprietor of my two businesses. So maybe I should just go out and treat myself to a new gun. Yeah - that's the ticket...!...what a swell guy I am...

I have ordered some Winchester Silver Tips, but it is back ordered weeks. Should I take it out for a test run with the cheap ammo or wait for the good stuff?

on this forum. Firing the pup is not an experiment and the fewer
variables in the ammo you use, the better.

That said - I have a good supply of both Silvertips and Gold Dots, so when I go to shoot one of my R9s I generally use one of them because that is what I carry in them. But I've used Blazer and other practice ammo as well in the past with no problems...TW<<

Post by: LRHogFan on May 02, 2009, 05:34:01 PM: I decided today to feed the R9 some Remington UMC FMJ ammo just to see what would happen. That will be the last time I try that. It would not eject several different times and then after switching to WWB ammo, it occurred again.

My next range experience will only be with the Speer Gold Dots. I really NEED to see some failure free range trips with this gun before I feel fully confident in using it as a concealed carry gun. One thing is for sure is that when a jam occurs, it is not easy to clear as it is difficult to remove the magazine from the gun.
