Birthday Reflections on a Seventh Decade of Life
« on: June 10, 2009, 02:57:34 PM »
Celebrating my birthday yesterday evening with some assistance from a distilled beverage almost as old as I was, it occurred to me that a man is truly fortunate if during the course of his life he has had one good gun, one good dog, one good horse, and one good woman. It then occurred to me that I am among the most fortunate of men.

And the most amazing miracle ever to have graced my life:

Hear, hear! You have been blessed, indeed; not undeserved
either, would I think.

Thank you, gentlemen! There is nothing like a fine old brandy to help an aging man become philosophical of an evening in early June.

And to answer your question, Corey . . . as we old lawyers are wont to say, "Res ipsa loquitur ."   ;)

The best to you on your Birthday Richard.
You have been, and are, a man that faces all his days as a new adventure.

I have thought of life starting as a stream in the mountains, pure and fresh.

As we go though the years other waters mix with ours - the experiences and people we encounter.  Some of these tributaries will be larger and the waters sweet, and some dirty. If our current (morals and values) is strong these bad influences and will not pollute our lives, what is now our larger river.

Our biggest changes are when other rivers, like your wonderful wife, join with our river of life.  Together our current is strong and we can face those forces that wish to destroy us (like our communist President).

Then as those years pass are flow starts to slow down with less rapids.  This is those enjoyable years you are at now when you wind though the beautiful days together, undestanding life more than those who have yet to have traveled so far.  Then of course we all end up in the ocean were we be with those who have gone before.

Maybe a little corny but I look at my days now much differnt than those of years ago.

Dave

Richard,
Happy birthday from Michigan, and I hope you celebrate many more.
I'm heading for my 67th next month.  Feeling pretty good, and other than seven or eight crowns, and three coronary artery stents, all my parts are stock from the factory.   I guess my wife was right about being more careful with my diet and  exercise. (Fortunately, she doesn't read this forum.  :P)

And Tom, I'll be breaking out the brandy again next Monday to toast your birthday. (Growing older does have some rewards.   8) )
