Ten Thousand Posts!
« on: August 15, 2005, 04:57:00 PM »
I just made the 10,000th post to this forum!  ;D

Not a bad collection of posts we have accumulated here.  Of the ten thousand, I would say that about 9,990 of them added some type of value.  ;)

Thanks to all for building this knowledge base.  And thanks particularly to our most prolific poster-- R9SCarry -- who has made 13.5% of them!

The next "hallmark" will be 1,000 topics.  The interesting thing is that we are averaging more than 10 posts per topic -- that is pretty good I woud think.

13.5% - Oh my gosh - that is almost embarrassing!!  That is over 1/8th.  Shucks.  ::)

Well, those who ''know'' me on this and other boards will be aware I do suffer some ''keyboard diahorrea'' and tend to ramble rather a lot.  As I am doing now.  It is I fear the ''nature of the beast'' ;D

10,000 posts tho eh - well Duane, we may be still on small side in membership terms but hey - quality exceeds quantity any day.  I have no wish for board growth to be other than thru the addition of those who have genuine interest - as owners or prospective owners.

Overall Duane I hope (I think I know!) that you are well pleased with your ''baby'' - it is holding a unique spot on the web.  I for one am ever so glad you kicked it off - someone had to! :P

Duane:

Congratulations!  And thank you for running such a "tight ship."  I have learned much from the Forum, and I have enjoyed it even more.

Chris:

Post on, my friend!  I make it a point to read every one of your essays.  You are invariably informative -- and invariably gracious as well.

Thanks Duane!!

If it wasn't for this forum I probably would have not ordered a R9.  This has to be the most user friendly gun forum with the most info on a particular gun than any on the net.  And of course what a great group of people.

Gee Wheez - I come back from a few weeks in the Alaska bush and it seems I've missed alot.

Tom,
Great trip - salmon were running - I  ran into eleven grizzles in the bush - I have a picture of one who came out of the bushes about right in front of me about thirty feet with three cubs - she walked toward me and  about 15 feet  turned and started eating blueberries and walked away - talk about needing clean shorts - I decided to photograph her since I was frozen in place - stupid I guess because who knows what could have set her off - we know someone who was done in by a grizzle with cubs several years ago - just got the digital camera a day before the trip so if I can get a card reader and figure out how to post them I'll do it sometime.

Spent some time with a real Mountain Man in a cabin built 80 years ago north of the Artic Circle.  Lives mainly off trapping, selling moose racks, wolf skulls, teeth/claw jewery and etc.  Sun didn't set until 2:30 am.  He has wolves constanly trying to kill his dogs.   Just buried his eskimo wife by the cabin - took him two days to dig a grave in the frozen ground.  Very interesting trip.

I met many people Chris who went to explore Alaska and just decided to stay and I can see why.   Don't know if I could take almost constant darkness in the winter though.

The dark winters are what would get to me - in other respects tho I have a hankering for such areas.

Maybe a trip before I am totally ''over the hill'' LOL!

Dave,
That sounds like a fantastic trip! I would love to read more about it if you get the chance to post the details. Sounds more like an adventure than a vacation. You'll have memories to last a lifetime. I'm pretty envious! Good for you!

I wonder what that real mountain man would charge for  a moose rack and/or a wolf skull?  Sounds like a super and different trip.   Tom
