Forum News and Feedback / Spammer Update
« Last post by DDGator on Today at 10:40:45 AM »

I am happy to say that the new procedure for manually approving new members has been very effective at controlling spam.  All of the spam posts since then (and there have not been very many) have been spammers coming back to use account entered before the procedure change.  There may still be some of those from time to time.

A downside has been that a few -- I think only 3 if I remember right -- legitimate members have been delayed in having their accounts approved.  This can be because they either don't email me for approval, or once or twice I have missed the email the first time.

However, we still have 5-10 spam bots trying to register on the forum every day.  Many with Russian ISPs.  The volume is crazy!

It is so good to see your posts!! Outstanding actually!!
I've missed you on the forum my friend and hope to see you more often. It'll give me a better excuse to return more often myself!
All the best.

Brendan!! How are you my friend? It is so good to hear from you again!

I seem to recall a wonderful photograph you posted a few years ago of your young granddaughter on her first deer hunt. I hope all is well with you and yours!

Welcome back!
Thank you, Phil! Itís good to be back on the Forum that I first joined 16 years ago at the suggestion of the late, great R.J. Hedley.

My original username Po-Pee was from RJ's Holster website.  Po-Pee was the name of the character he painted on his hand to make his hand a hand puppet.  That was 13 years ago and didn't have the same ring to it after awhile, so I changed my username.  His pocket holster is still my EDC.
Yes, Phil, I remember RJís hand puppet, ďPo-Pee.Ē As you know, his daughter Lisa is now carrying on his tradition of making the finest holsters. I have three of hers and you cannot tell the difference between her work and that of her father. RJ taught her well!

The only justification for R9 porting that I have read in all of these posts is perceived recoil reduction. I don't care about recoil reduction in a six yard range, seven round small personal defense weapon. Other than a gee whiz and isn't that pretty, this is about one of the most effective ways to waste money that comes to mind.

I have not carried a R9 for at least 5 years as shooting one with accuracy and with accuracy and speed are difficult for me.  I do much better with a Solo, PM9, or Boberg.

Recoil reduction is a big help.  Shooting the wimpy Federal stuff is not too bad.  The porting really takes the snap out of the Gold Dots.

Hey Joe,

You may have to reduce the size of your photos to be able to post them here on the forum. I know I had to do that.

I use "Fotosizer" at 20%. Works like a dream. Reduce the size of an entire folder with almost one click!

Do a Google search to find it and then just download it and do your thing.

All I can say is we had a few that were ported and they didn't run well and were shipped back to us for "warranty repairs". On all cases, after trying all of "the tricks", the customer paid to have it put back to stock with a new slide/barrel setup on his dime. Cost was somewhere around $400 for the parts and the work. Just saying that's what WE experienced at the shop with these altered guns.
Your results may vary (as the saying goes).

It would be really cool if we could get the records from Remington and place them into some kind of archive.  Then we would know how the serial number was configured out of the factory.  I'm willing to volunteer my time.

PhilZ - Iíd be more than happy to help out with that task.  But what are the chances that Remington would part with even serial numbers ?    Believe it or not, the Beretta Factory has been extremely helpful, courteous, and giving to our Beretta forum on info, SNís, etc.  I donít believe theyíve said no to very much.  (Except certain records, because they didnít computerize until the late 90ís, so a lot of things pre-1990 was all paper records in boxes and required too much manpower to research).
