The day in history 268 men died because of one mans ego
« on: June 25, 2017, 10:23:12 AM »
Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Little Big Horn. 268 soldiers died, and only 31 indians, because of Custer's ego. Custer FORBID the soldiers carrying sabers, refused to bring his battling guns, split his forces, and did not send anyone out on flank security.

Looking at this he had  either the worlds biggest undeserved ego or it was a suicide mission by a idiot.

That is the problem with a lot of military leaders. When you finally realize you are OUTNUMBERED 10-1  don't play hero, play Jessie Owens and RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Custer was not the only one.

General Pershing ordered troops to attack enemy positions in the last few hours ahead of the armistice in WW1 resulting in thousands of casualties that would have been avoided by waiting until 11am.  Remembered as a Hero.

Dug out Doug(lass) MacArthur wanted to pursue his political ambitions at the cost of a more efficient method to winning the war in the Pacific during WWII, costing thousands of lives in the process.  Remembered as a Hero.

He also got to play the victim for some inexcusable military blunders in Korea.  Remembered as a Hero.

I am sure the list will continue to grow as the winners generally get to write their own history.

Hell 'Doug Out Doug' got the Medal of Honor for RUNNING FROM A FIGHT leaving his men behind.

We had a company commander Cpt.Mc Ad**s that got drunk andd turned a jeep over at Vandergriff fire Base, breaking his arm. He did a 'John Kerry and put HIMSELF in for a Purple Heart AND a Bronze Star. He got a fellow ring knocker, military academy grad, to OK them so he was awarded them. Fora guy that never got near combat, he preferred to lead from the rear area, and got INJURED, not wounded, being drunk gave himself a Purple Heart.

We did have 2-3 Officers who were very good BUT 60-70% were worthless jerks just trying to get their ticket punched, combat action was necessary for promotion.
