Special Ops?
« on: September 01, 2017, 07:39:40 AM »
I see this one has showed up again.

It is not a Special Forces, just a Stealth with a little after market coating.  The box is marked standard and an invoice from Arego's in Arkansas stating it is a standard model enhanced.

Beware.

What is a R9 Standard?  $1795.00?
Having a gun in your hand is much more effective than having the entire police department on the phone!

R9 Standard is how the two tone are marked.

Originally this pistol had everything black like a Special Forces except the recoil spring guide rod.  Now it seems that the barrel is not coated any more.

I asked when this gun was listed before to send me a close up of the invoice which was also pictured.  Arego Gun Shop listed it as a Standard model but some one had it coated up like a Special Forces, probably Arego had it done.

Standard, which is the original two-tone, is the name used to differentiate the models when there was Stealth, Robar, and Standard.

Special Forces are all black including all external hardware, internals and mags.

I have seen some aftermarket-coated black barrels that have chipped paint on the top of the barrel from  the slide contacting the barrel.  This looks really bad and might be the reason the barrel in the gun in question is not coated anymore.

This "Special Ops Forces" is obviously a Standard with aftermarket coating.

What about this guy?

.

This appears to be a Stealth.  Stealths have a black slide and frame with silver hardware: trigger, hammer, barrel, grip screws, etc

I guess that's a fair price.

At least that's what the price tag on the box said.

The label with the matching serial number says "Standard", but the other label is $1795.  Standards were $1150, which were $1795?

Special Ops, that's the first time I've seen a reference to that name.  They must have changed it to Special Forces later.

Eric sill have to explain that one.

That's the first time I've heard of Special Ops too.

Found this thread from 2010.

It seems like Special Ops is like a Covert in that it is a factory Standard sent away by the distributor to be coated.  If the "0310" on the $1795 price sticker is a date code for March, 2010, this would fit with the 2010 thread about it.
