I am having my machinist make 6 of the recoil spring compressing tools for my collection. It will be 2-3 weeks before he can get started so I thought I would see if anyone on here was interested. I bought mine from a member for $30, it is brass and worth it's weight in GOLD putting your Rohrbaugh together, you can put one together in less than 30 seconds.
I can't give a price yet, he charges time and materials, but am thinking with the cost of brass aluminum may be the way to go. He is GUESSING $20-$30 range.
If you have a interest let me know here or send a P.M.
kevinqjhps
update: He dropped the price to $25.00 each
-
I'll take one. Just let me know when and where to send the check. Thank you!
-
I will take one also. Sent PM
-
The P.M.'s, and the two above are covered. I will accept requests till I hear from my gunsmith/machinist
-
Interested Kevin. Would like to see pics of course before I commit
-
I'd be in for one, as long as it works as intended.

As people on here can attest they are WONDERFUL.
-
Count me in too
-
The question was asked how this works. It is about 3 inched long with a cutout on one end that fits in front of the recoil spring cap. No wrestling with channel locks . Just put tension on recopy spring, slide this over in front of the recoil cap. and it's in in 3-4 seconds. Whoever invented this was a genius who got tired fighting with assembly.
i will be selling these at cost BUT i NEED A ACCURATE NUMBER OF realistic BUYERS. I havre to pay for these when I pick them up , $200-$300 range, so I would like to be accurate. Those who have contacted me, or responded here WILL GET FIRST SHOT. If I end uo with a few left over they will go on G-broker at a higher, NOT MEMBER price.
If anyone has one feel free to kick your 2 cents in on how you like it, or if you want a pic of the old brass one, gunsmith has it now, I will get you a cell phone pic. Just send your cell number.
Thanks,
Kevinqjhps

Just a thought...I believe that the tool you bought from me came from Brian @ Designer grips. He probably is still selling them & has some existing inventory. Might be a lot easier using him & he could use the business. JMO
-
The inventor of this tool was RJ Hedley, who also was a superb holster maker, especially for the R9. Unfortunately, RJ passed away several years ago and his daughter, Lisa, is also a fantastic holster maker who has followed in her father's large footsteps with grace and skill.
-
Does the RACTool & the DRT tool do the same thing? I thought they were. I have never used either. If not, my mechanical ability is scary sometimes.
-
What are those things?

What are those things?
recoil assembly compression tool( 2nd pic ) & disassembly/reassembly tool ( 1st pic, middle tool ).

The bottom photo is a replica of the original RJ brass tool.

The top middle is Brian's tool. What's the difference between the two?
-
The function is the same; RJ's brass tool was just of a different quality.
-
Bottom pic is it. Thanks.
-
You're on it, Kevin.
-
The bottom is for assembly, which is a real ^%$#%^&&*. The ones to remove the take down pin I just lay a allen wrench on it's side with the 1/16th sticking up, line up the pin, and press down. That's the easy part.
-
The bottom tool is also for aligning the slide and frame holes to reinsert the takedown pin. You use the tool in the ejection port like a wedge and you insert or pull back until the holes are perfectly aligned.

Thanks Phil. I knew there wen reason for the design BUT didn't know what the other was. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
It's true what they say about having the right tool makes the job a lot easier.
-
I learned a trip from a post here years ago...buy a blue plastic buss puller at Lowes for a few bucks, Dremel a semicircular slot in one of the jaws and it is the perfect spring compression tool for putting the recoil spring assembly back in the slide.
-
Whatever works; RJ's brass tool just has a quality tactile feel to it that feels good in my hand.

We could make these in brass, aluminum, titanium, gold or silver. For price reasons aluminum is the cheapest and still does the job. Just trying to keep prices down.
-
GOLD would be awesome!! Cost more than the gun.
-
RJ's brass tool was no more than $20 but he may have made them himself.
-
Plastic works great
Call me I will tell you a whole lot

I THINK you will be OK. He is one making 10-12, I forger which, IF they all sell and people still want more he can make them in batches of 10-12, it tales time to set up the CNC machine. I THINK you are #9.

Please sign me up for one as well. Thx.

I'll take one also.

Just spoke with my machinist. He is going to do 15 on this run. That SHOULD cover all who have expressed a interest. If that doesn't cover it he can do another run od 10 minimum.
I have to pay for these when completed so I don't want to tie up $300_$400 if they all are not going to sell.
-
Will you do Pay Pal? I can do a deposit if needed.

Sorry. When Pay Pal went anti I closed my account., any type of M.O. will work.
-
I've been asked about mailing info. Once I get prices I will get all who sent a P.M. Those who responded on here are still on the list but I will need a P.M. with your info you get my mailing info.
I don't know if I posed yet but I upped the first batch to 15. The problem with not just going with 20-25 is no matter what it is some people say they want one want them but change their mind
More info next week
-
These will go out First Class mail within12- 24 hours of receipts of M.O.
Thanks,
Kevin
-
I just picked them up. They are BEAUTIFUL and work perfectly. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D He left them in the tubler a extra 24 hours to get rid of burs and get a nice finish. That was the icing on the cake.

Thanks so much for posting pic. As you can see I have 15. When they sell he MAY, MAY make another run. Time and materials came to $28 each. I figure 2 stamps for shipping. These are $29 I don't know what the next batch, if there is one, will cost.
-
They look good.
-
Just a Heads up. I have no intention on using Pay Pal.. CASH, M..O or Personal check only. once it clear
Thanks,
Kevin
-
Everyone did not enclose their user name with payment, I would make things a lot easier if that was enclosed. Anyway:
Chris O ,from Pa. will get his on the way tomorrow..
Matthew A., from Ca., will also go out tomorrow.
Cpt. Rick M. from Ohio also went out today
Thanks
Kevin

Going out today:
cargaritaville, on the way
JH225, on the way
minnesotagy, on the way
Thanks all,
Kevin

Just got the tool in the mail today. I went ahead and media blasted it with the same size glass bead that the slides were finished with for a bit of added fun. It is now an identical match. Too bad I didn't have a laser engraver to write Rohrbaugh on it too.

Sick upgrade! Just like a Rohrbaugh Forum member to do something awesome like that... :D ;D

I received the spring tool. Thank you, Kevin!

Glad you like it. They did turn out well. It was a 'bit' of a bi%@h having to pay over 400 up front to get these but it's worth it if people like them. I just hope everyone that said they wanted one pays up. I would hate to get stuck with 5-6.
-
Beautifully done Kevin. A nice accessory for the R9s.

I like your thoughts offroad. . . . . That "look" with the 175/325 glassbead at about 70 - 80 lbs psi about 4 inches away from your work is a great look. I used that same technique on the case of my 1985 BMW K100 standard motorcycle engine cases and really gave that bike "a look" of class. Good stuff here on this forum aye guys!? Ha haa . . . . . . Keep up the great work.

I also know how to and own the correct grit polishing cloths to polish the stainless like the finish used on Rolex oyster bracelets.

Intriguing . . . . . .

I spoke with my gunsmith about engraving. No problem. Only thing is it would have to br done as a sheet BEFORE they were cut out. He said once out it would be too expensive to remount them and do them one at a time.
To engrave them with "ROHRBAUGH" on a new batch would only bring the price to $31 each shipped..
I would be glad to do this but I need to be paid for those who committed themselves to the first batch, I see getting stuck here, and also have payment sent in advance for the engraved ones. He will do this iif we get a minimum of 10.
I don't mind doing this for nothing, on my end, if it will help other members out as long as it doesn't cost me money.
-
See above post for engraving info on the tools.
-
Beyond my comprehension. Originally I tried using channel locks to put things back. Some luck, but I ended up not using anything but my fingers.I have not had anything flying across the room in quite a few years,so I must have it down.
I do wear glasses thou.
It was a good primer for learning how to take the main recoil spring out of my two 1911's,which have enough muscle to fly into the neighbor's yard.
-
Got some good info rom mannylinda. Rohrbaugh is now owned by Remington so they COULD come after me for copyright issues. He suggested another name, or something else written on the tools.
Ideas anyone?
-
Yes; leave the laser engraving alone and just let the tool speak for itself.

Yep

Engraving is OUT! Got enough legal problems without Remington coming after me with a bus load of lawyers.
-
Have two more tools that people didn't pay for and are available. I also put them on G-broker.
-
For any that missed the first go around my friend is making another batch at SAME PRICE. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Price break on this batch :D . He dropped price $4 each so for members it's only $25.00. Gunbroker price remains the same.
-
Are these still available for $25?

Kevin is no longer a member of this forum but you may find them available as resale from other members.

As tracker said, seller is not longer on this board.
However, he is the guy selling them on Gunbroker under a different name and a higher price.

Yes, you are correct. I did not notice that.
m60e3, welcome to the forum I hope this helps.
Tell us more about yourself and your pistol.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the welcome to the forum. Lots of great information here and great support. Eric has been great too, we’ve had several conversations. My R9 pistol is one of my favorites in my collection, that’s for sure. Looking forward to catching up on my reading here as I recently joined the forum. I’m also a Seecamp enthusiast and have owned many over the years. Thanks to all who replied to my question about the R9 spring assembly tool.

Yes guys, m60 is a stand up guy.
Being he's not too far from me at about a 4-5 hour ride, I may take him up on an offer.
I may ride my 40 year old Moto Guzzi I just acquired and put back into riding condition down there as a "wring-it-out" ride. lol
Again, welcome aboard here at the forum for all things Rohrbaugh R9.
Regards,
Eric R.
