Title: r9s elite info
Post by: jayson on March 14, 2012, 02:27:04 PM
Hello everyone,  first post on this site.  Just had a question?  I have a nib r9s elite and have had a real difficult time finding info about it.  Like how many did they produce? Discontinued? Approximate value?  Any info on it would be awesome.  Thanks everyone in advance.

Jayson.  Welcome to the Forum.  The Elite originally sold for $1395 and now it's what someone is willing to pay.  Some are asking as high as $3100 I've seen.  They are discontinued and don't know how many were produced.  There was an Elite Premium produced and 16 of those were made, mainly a collectable.  Again, welcome.

Jayson,

Welcome to the forum. I agree the Elite is a beautiful gun. I believe that there were approximately 50 Elites made. The first ones came with the smooth Hogue G10 grips and the later Elites came with the slightly upgraded checkered Hogue G10 grips, and the Elite Premiums got the last 16 sets of black carbon fiber grips and special serial numbers. Maria told me that the Elites were discontinued because too many slides were being over polished and had to be thrown out during the hand polishing process. The owners of the first and second Elites produced are both forum members, the first one came with a hand written note from one of the brothers and a copy of the magazine it was featured in. As far as price goes in November I purchased one NIB from a collector who bought three when he heard they were being discontinued. I probably paid a little too much at $2,500 but don't regret it and am very happy with it as a EDC. I originally wanted to get my hands on an Elite Premium (and still do) so I put some black CF grips on it and have included a picture below. What are your plans for your Elite?

As far as plans for it go I really don't have any at the moment,  given they no longer make them I'm inclined not to carry it as I have other carry guns and don't want to risk any damage to it.  If I got an interesting offer id listen but it may just go back in the safe otherwise.  Thanks a lot for the info, I appreciate it.

The second Elite ever made lives in my gunsafe (although it has been fired)...

So how many people on here actually have an elite or elite premium?  Not to rub it in anyones face lol.  Just interested to see out of the 70 or so made, how many are accounted for on this forum.

I don't know exactly how many reside with forum members. I was only able to find one member who ever posted about having an Elite Premium but he has since removed all his info and posts (not corey/cwc either). More have posted about elites but the forum software upgrade a while back has made these difficult to track down. Right know I know of 5 BNIB elites including yours and the one on gunbroker, and there are probably a few more I dont know about.

Ryan.  I found out about the Premium when I was getting the #127;  there may be hope yet from this owner.

I'm in florida too,  I frequent gun shows a lot and have never even seen another elite other than mine.  Not to mention a premium,  that's probably kept inside a gunvault mini safe and then inside another safe lol!

If there is and you decide to pass let me know and it will have a new home  ;D

The premiums actually came with their own glass/wood display case so it would be a shame to keep it in a vault.

Ryan:

Now that is what I call "Going First Class" -- using an Elite as your EDC!

Jason:

Welcome to the Forum. My advice would be to follow Ryan's lead and use that "Pedigreed Pup" as your EDC. Life is short. "Go for the gusto."   8)

KJ--- wow--- very nice--- never seen a Premium either in person or in pix.

I have one of the "regular" Elites LNIB in my safe.  I have 2 other R9s for eveyday carry but I do get the Elite out every once in a while and drool over it---- then it goes back in the safe.  I've never fired it.  The production date was Feb '10 according to the fired case envelope which I think makes it one of the last (if not the last) Elite made--i should check with Maria to find out that for certain.

I wonder how well those Rembrandts shoot at the range.

Smooth as silk, I would imagine.    :)

Probably about the same as a standard.

Lee.  Like Ryan, would love to see the #10 EP.  I know it will look like the #15 of 16 above, but will be good to see that #10 on the frame.  If the owner of #1 of 16 or any others of the 16 are around, please chime in.    :)

Wow carrying an elite premium, you're a braver man than me.  I have a regular elite and I think I'm gonna trade it for other pistols or sell it soon as I don't wanna carry it and potential do damage to it.  Will probably get a standard r9 and carry that.  But you sir carry first class that's awesome.

I have shot my #2 Elite, and carried it at times.  I probably shouldn't because of the "collectors" value -- but perhaps being a carry gun for me makes it more valuable as a colletor's item.    ;D

I neve understood why someone would purchase a gun to just look at. If i own a gun, i will shoot it as long as it is safe to shoot. :)

Or sell it and get something you will shoot. ;D

I understand the concept fully, it's just not my thing.   ;)

I have only one unfired gun in my collection right now -- and that is simply the result of an oversight on my part (and a lack of time)!  I will take care of that very soon.

I have a fair number of guns, but each of them have been purchased with the idea of using them.  If they don't get used, and don't have a real potential for getting used, I do tend to sell them.  For example, I have a Thompson Contender that I have fired a couple times at the range.  I keep it because I think I may use it for some handgun hunting one day.  Maybe I won't, but I keep telling myself that!

Ya I completely agree, I dislike having guns I don't shoot, otherwise I would never consider ridding myself of the elite.
