New R9S owner!
« on: January 07, 2007, 01:00:38 AM »
Hello, thanks for forum. Already learning a lot here.

I've been wanting an R9S since I first heard about them a few years ago. Finally got one today.

I found a used one for $750. Still had the receipt from the original owner from 2/06 for $1008. It looks like it has never been fired. I can't believe I actually have one of these babies now  ;D

Thanks for all the comments. Took her to the range tonight. A little dissapointing, but not too bad. I didn't have any jams or anything like that, but did have several light primer strikes.

Do I need a heavier hammer spring? The trigger is very light. Other than that 50 rounds and very reliable.

By chance did you use Remington or S&B ?

Have heard of "hard" primers with both of these..

Thanks..

Wardog, I went to my local gun shop looking for a small pocket pistol. Finally opted for a Kel Tec since nothing else was a downsizing from my Kahr. As I waited on the store to do the paperwork, I found a brand new R9s in the case. Couldn't belive it! Killed the Kel Tec, went home with the R9./ Like you, still can't belive I found one. Stay safe.

wardog,

If that is the only problum you are haveing you are well on your way to a good running R9.

Clean thouroughly.  Blast some cleaner into the fireing pin hole etc., etc..  Relubricate as per instructions and take it to the range again.  These light primer strike issues are usually ammo related, like with S&B ammo or if that is not the case they almost always go away with a proper break in period.

Wow, thanks for all the replies!

Anway, it was with PMC FMJ ammo. Happened about 1/3 to 1/4 of the time. I had some other 9mm with me but didn't try it. (now I wish I had)

I've used S&B and have experienced hard primers with that ammo. That was with a HK USPc in .357 Sig. Never had a problem with PMC or any other ammo in that regard.

Joesolo, I've got a Kahr PM9 and a Kel Tec P3AT. If I can get this one running 100% those may be pushed to the back of the safe  :)

I will try a complete cleaning and several different types of ammo.

After reading about the recoil I was expecting a lot more. I don't think it's bad at all. I'd encourage those that think the R9 is bad to try a S&W Scandium J frame in .357 Mag!  :o

Wardog,
As suggested, go ahead and clean the gun, then try it again.  If that doesn't work, give Maria a call.  They take misfires pretty seriously!  I just went through this with a new R-9 Stealth.  When clean, it would seem to work fine for a mag or two.  After that, I could figure on at least one misfire per mag.

In talking with Karl, apparently there was a small lot of defective hammers produced.  It is possible you have one of those.  FWIW, the turnaround on my gun was about 10 days.

Good Luck

Hey,  been a while since i entered anything.  I was the one that had some concerns when i first got my pup because it had several FTF and fail to eject.  The fail to fire was due to the light strike mentioned in this thread.  I found this to be a breakin problem.  after the 2nd trip to the range, this problem cleared up.  I have about 125 rounds through the gun now and Saturday when i went to the range, not one problem of any kind.  I think your light hit will clear up probably by the next trip to the range.  I fired Winchester White box, some gold dots and some federal hydroshock.  Not one problem of any kind.  I am very pleased with the gun at this time.  in fact it is my favorite gun
