Riffraff,

Why do you think carrying an extra magazine will get you in trouble?  Do you have any legal justification for this?  I mean, as in a friend or associate having had this charge?  Or have you read about it?

I'm curious to know; because I've never heard this discussed in any CHL/CWL class I've had, and I've taken them in two states; mind you, both gun friendly.   I've got too much crap in my pockets to carry an extra mag, so I'm strictly asking for legality type purposes.

Thanks.

BytorJr,

I did not make myself clear.  Carrying an extra mag will not mean anything.  If you fire that many shots that you actually have to USE that extra mag then I think you are going to be looked at with a proctoscope by the prosecuting atorney as to what charges he can file against you.

I will put it this way:  read all you can about armed citizens using firearms to defend themselves.  What is the average number of shots fired in these incidences?  What is the largest number of shots fired and what percentage of  those large number of shots fired incidences does this make up in the total number of instances where citizens used firearms for self defense?

The VAST majority of self defense incidences have 3 or less shots fired by the citizen.  If you think you might be involved in the .01%(my guess) of instances where more than 7 rounds were needed/required/necessary, then by all means, carry an extra mag.

In my opinion, it is just more trouble than it is worth.

Mike,

I prefer the two tone simply because that is all I have in my
possession. Your implied concerns about our liberties pale
in comparison to a close friend of mine.

The issue of carrying or not carrying an extra magazine is a
non-issue with me except for the basis of your statements.
If you know something we don't, please give us a hint.
I really don't think it is accurate to say just loading an extra
magazine is a crime; if I read you correctly, carrying an extra
magazine may get you in trouble. Although, I don't think any
one in the Killeen, Tx. Luby's Cafeteria would have worried
about that at the time, if at all. Of course, in our litigious
society, anything is possible.

Riffraff,

I see where you're coming from.  It'd be a sad day to either have to use all 7 rounds, or having to need more than 7 (multiple attackers).   If you miss 7 times and it's likely there will be a few misses , then the shooter had better be concerned as to where those misses are going.

No disagreement, I was wondering from a legal standpoint.

Now, that said, there have been gangs attack folk in bigger cities, and then...well, one had better have a lot more than 7 rounds - an AR, a fast car, and 911.

I look at it as better to have it and not need it,than to not have it and need it!! ;)

Goes' right along with, I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6!!

when you run out of ammo you are out of the war. an extra mag of ammo may never be used but better safe than sorry. aim each shot so that it hits what you want and keep shooting till all the threats are gone. you have to make it thru the battle before you talk about court.  Tom

This is a rather specious point of discussion anyway because
two R9 magazines do not equal one Glock magazine capacity.
Is there such a thing as too much ammo in a self-defense
situation?

BaytorJr, Brendon, the IrishGuard,

Thanks for the comments.  I understand what you are saying and I think you understood what I was getting at.

Tracker,

I have been unable to get my points across to you.  The second paragraph if your reply to my last post did not really make sense and your post just before this one did not either.
IMO you are trying to compare apples to oranges.
