XM193 5.56 mm (.223) ammo available
« on: September 18, 2005, 06:42:15 PM »
This is way off topic, but everyone has been out of XM193 ammo for a while.

You can order it now from ammoman.com

It looks like you cannot, but just enter the quantity in the box, and push Continue.

XM193 is the 5.56 mm military equivalent of .223 for your AR-15, etc rifles.

Bill,

Could you elaborate a bit on the advantages of it.

I believe the XM193 govt., ammo has a heaver bullet. 65or 66 gr instead of 55grs. It preforms better at longer ranges.

tracker and Tom,

I just recently got a Bushmaster AR-15, so my knowledge is fairly light.

Most of the AR-15 rifles seem to be rated for 5.56mm, which M193 is.  You can shoot .223 in that rifle, if it is rated for 5.56, but the reverse is not true.

M193 is a NATO round which packs more of a wallop for military use, as compared to the .223.  It should make more noise, flash, and recoil.

I think if all the experts got together, and had to recommend something to buy, they would recommend the XM193 as an excellent choice  for someone who needs guidance.

Here is an outstanding reference:

http://www.ammo-oracle.com/body.htm

The prefix X is attached when the ammo is sold to civilians.

Many, perhaps most,  people prefer to buy the Federal ammo from Lake City.

I intend to have 1000-2000 of XM193 on hand in case of civil disorder, bad people, and other requirements.

I'm finding that more and more advisors are recommending the AR-15 for home defense.

If friend and foe are near each other, the AR-15 would be more accurate than a shotgun.  Also, you might have to step outside during a violent encounter.  XM193 should be more than adequate.

In addition, we frequently read that the AR-15 may do less dangerous penetration through walls than a pistol.

Do not buy XM193PD.  It is generally to be avoided, according to my readings.

Michigunner,

XM193 is the closest we can get to military rounds!!They are fast and have very good terminal ballistics!!
You are correct-it is best to stay away from the PD-IMO-The boxed XM is considered a "reject" for military standards, and the bulk is considered a "reject" of that..

The next best bet for new ammo is Winchester Q3131A..This stuff has always been golden for me!!

Look around for the XM-it comes and goes.but has been fairly available from one or another source-even if the price is steep compared to what it was.. :(

I have more than a "few" cans stashed for an "emergency"  ;)

Finding any 5.56/.223 has been difficult for sure due to our Military needing it for training and for use against the Evil doers!! Cannot even find WWB for ages at Wallyworld!!

Can never have enough ammo-I say with a smile.. ;D

Thanks, Brenden.

My daughter and I shot the new AR-15 and had a ball.  It was really fun!

We did not hit anything, because I had not zeroed the EOTech 512.  I hope to take care of that soon.

Our early efforts were with Federal American Eagle.  I ordered the XM193 today, so next time we will make more noise and have greater recoil.

My two daughters are against guns, more or less, but she was a good sport and we had a terrific time.

I think you said you had a Colt.  I intend to get one someday.

The Entry Tactical caught my eye right away.  Great choice!

Some day, I'm going to figure out which Colt rifles can be purchased by civilians, and also learn which models are the most popular.
