Title: Two new additions to the family
Post by: thor447 on December 17, 2011, 05:55:13 PM
I attended the gun show (www.okcgunshow.com) today and picked up two nice firearms.   First is the gun that has had more than one thread created for it on here, the SW Governor.  This was the only one at the show that I could find and my local FFL said that they are on back order from SW and it would be well after Christmas before he got any in so I went ahead and picked up this guy:

The second firearm is a Colt Detective Special First Series (manufactured 1932).   I have had my eyes out for a good looking Detective for awhile now and when I saw the condition of this first series, I had to get it.  I cannot find a single imperfection on this thing.  I looked the gun over very closely and honestly I cannot even tell if this thing has ever been fired.  If it has, it would only be a handful of times.  The hammer looks almost brand new, barrel is perfect, cylinders are perfect, it is just incredible how clean this thing is.

I was able to wrangle an old Colt box from him because this one did not come with the original box.  The box I got from him belonged to a Woodsman.  He threw in the box with it.  After walking the show a little more holding that old Colt box, I had several people ask me to buy just the box.  I decided to keep it for now, but I will be able to get around $100 for it from what I have been offered today.

All totaled I gave him 1500 for both guns, blue book the guns are worth around 1900, his total asking price for both was 1725, and I got him to accept 1500 so I think I got out ahead on the deal.

Nice, thor.  I especially like the Colt Dectective as I used to own one and only one of a very few guns that I have sold; and as the story goes, have regretted it ever since.

A couple of nice finds, I have a Colt Agent with the shrouded ejector rod, I'm going to have it hard chromed sometime.

I'll be headed back tomorrow, one of the guys I buy a lot of Colt's from said that he is bringing up a few lever actions tomorrow.  I'm going to go look at a Henry in .45LC   I think that would fit nicely in the safe if I can get it from him at a decent price.  Pics to follow tomorrow if I can get my hands on it.

Well, I ended up changing my mind on the Henry .45LC and picked up the Colt Kansas Statehood Frontier Scout.  Pic's attached.

What is funny is that I brought the R9S to the show and most of the people I talked to had never heard of them.  Granted I was one of these guys about 18 months ago before I saw my first one.  I can tell you that the little Rohrbaugh got some fans this afternoon!

Beautiful Frontier Scout.  I have the same experience with the R9, even most gun dealers have never heard of them.

Thor:

I'm beginning to turn slightly green with envy. Those are exquisite additions to your "family."

Edit to note that, as a transplanted "Okie," I have to view that Kansas Statehood Frontier Scout (although beautiful) as a reminder of a few high-school athletic competitions that did not turn out as planned.

Thank you guys for the compliments.  It was definitely a fun weekend.  Any time I can spend two days at a decent gun show and have a little spending cash, it's hard to have a bad time!

I was with a friend there today and was informed that I might have a slight Colt addiction.  I justified it with the fact that I don't drink and that had I been a big drinker, I would have probably spent the equivalent on an alcohol budget over the course of the year.   It made sense to me at the time!!

----Richard----
I can see how that might be a stark reminder of a few failed athletic contests, however I feel that I can overlook it for the mere fact of the 'Colt' label.  Otherwise, I would have second guessed it's purchase!
